Really liked this book. Interesting characters and good story flow. Hard to put down. Like the intrigue and the way it makes you wonder what is going to happen. Good read. Would recommend.
This was a very short story and not all that Christmasy. The cover is beautiful and the title had me thinking this was going to be an entirely different type of book. Not exactly what I had been looking for and as I read I felt like I was missing something. Nowhere did I see that there was a previous book in this series. Perhaps if I had more of the back story from reading other books in this series, I may have enjoyed it more.
There was action and suspense, but the romance was flat and the characters were not well developed... but again, they may have been better developed in previous books in this series. Reading this as a stand-alone just didn't really work out for me.
Honestly, I did not know how to review this novella (?) because I wasn’t really sure what is happening here.
Let me explain. This novella follows immediately the events that happen in book one. Michael has been dumped in the alter so to drown out his sorrow he goes to the bar owned by Shay Angel’s uncle, a girl he once fell in love with but also is partially responsible for sending her to jail.
Well, apparently Shay needs his held – or so her uncle thinks and Michael finds himself trying to get her out of a dangerous situation.
This was a super quick read, maybe like 20 minutes? I felt like I read a few chapters in a book and was left wanting more. We get a brief snip of how Michael is feeling after the wedding being such a big mess, we get to meet Shay. The ending left on a sort of a weird note. There was no HEA between these two, but a promise to meet at the same spot a year later.
It felt like a prologue to a book. At least I hope Michael get’s a book because it sounds like it be fun. Shay and Michael are so completely different with their backgrounds, but we don’t get enough out of this book to really feel neither the connection, nor the characters. Honestly, I didn’t even feel like this needed to be written, but okay?
CHRISTMAS WITH AN ANGEL is a short and sweet novella which is the second story in Debbie Mason's new Harmony Harbor series. It takes place the day after MISTLETOE COTTAGE leaves off. This is Michael Gallagher and Shay's possible second chance at love.
I must admit, I didn't care much for Michael originally, at least not when he was younger. He was rich and arrogant and cheated on his then girlfriend Sophie (and I really like Sophie.) with wild child,Shay. She's the girl from the wrong side of town. I can't go into the complexities of their past, you have to read that yourself. And now Sophie is with the man she should be with, Liam. And Michael is now unhappily engaged to a bridezilla Bethany and their wedding is on Christmas. At the final moment the wedding is called off and the bride is holding his dog hostage.
Michael has changed over the years and is really a good guy. He and Shay are off to a rocky start but the embers are there. He knows that he has a lot to answer for and Shay has had it rough for too long. She has every right to wary of him, but he knows she has troubles and he wants to help her. Since this is a short story, it offers the promise that maybe things can work out for them in the future. I look forward to reading more about them in the future and other couples as well. I can't wait to read more in the deliciously heartwarming Harmony Harbor series.
This was only a tease... lol I bet we get a full blown story of Michael and Shay!
Debbie Mason’s novella Christmas With An Angel is a fabulous follow-up story to Mistletoe Cottage. Both stories are set in Harmony Harbor and in my opinion, the author is spot on with her description of life in a small community north of Boston. Ms. Mason captures the small town feeling and the unique characters of a tight knit community where everyone knows each other’s secrets.
Christmas With An Angel features Michael Gallagher and his former teenage love Shay Angel. Michael Gallagher is having a bad day. His fiancée jilted him the day before their wedding, changed the locks on his condo and threatened him with a law suit. He’s cancelled his credit and debit cards and needs to figure out how to rescue his dog who is in the condo. Overwhelmed and feeling sorry for himself, he decides to go to a bar and get drunk. Michael meets Shay at the bar and the patrons accept him as one of their own when he tells them about being dumped and his concern for his dog.
Debbie Mason’s characters and her dialogue are fabulous. She is able to capture Michael’s self -pity, his need to make amends and redemption is this superbly written fast paced short story. Ms. Mason provided enough insight and mystery into the character of Shay to hold my interest. There were several suspenseful, tense scenes in the novel. The conclusion of Christmas With An Angel has several unexpected surprises and was well done! The author left several clues about Michael and Shay and other characters and I am interested to see who is featured in the next Harmony Harbor book!
Christmas with an Angel is a quick interlude to introduce us to future characters in Debbie Mason’s Harmony Harbor series. It is a fun, quick read, but there is little romance and definitely no happy for now. I enjoyed seeing more of Michael and Shay and look forward to their story. If you aren’t a fan of teasers, this is not a good choice for you. I have a feeling that it will be a good read before their book comes out, I don’t know when.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novella.
This is the 6th book I have read of Debbie's and the 2nd in the Harmony Harbor series. I have always enjoyed reading Debbie's books so when I was giving the opportunity to read this short story I jumped at the chance. This book picks up where the last book ended and helps you understand Michael better and why he acts the way he does and why he has changed from his high school days.
If there was one aspect of the book that I did not like was that I felt this book was rushed and that the story was not as developed as her previous book the Harmony Harbor series. I think this book could have been better if she would have just made it into a full book. For instance i felt like the ending left you hanging and wanting more from the story. The story wasn't resolved.
I am interested to see if she does more with this couple in future books or if this is all we will see of them. Can't wait to read the next book.
