THE TRAPPED GIRL is the fourth book in the Tracy Crosswhite series by New York Times bestselling author Robert Dugoni. I have read the previous books in the Tracy Crosswhite Series:
My Sister's Grave (#1)
Her Final Breath (#2)
In the Clearing (#3)
(I plan to read the 5th book in the series-Close To Home)
I have always enjoyed reading his books, and this one is no exception…again another winner!
Tracy is a detective in Seattle PD's Violent Crimes Section and she and her team are assigned to investigate an intricate case-a woman's body is recovered from a crab pot in the waters of Puget Sound. Identification is difficult, but Tracy and her team believe they have discovered Andrea Strickland, who disappeared after climbing Liberty Ridge in Mount Rainier National Park with her husband Graham. But there are a lot of unanswered questions?
“After evidence surfaces that their Jane Doe may be a woman who suspiciously disappeared months earlier, Tracy is once again haunted by the memory of her sister’s unsolved murder. Dredging up details from the woman’s past leads to conflicting clues that only seem to muddy the investigation. As Tracy begins to uncover a twisted tale of brutal betrayal and desperate greed, she’ll find herself risking everything to confront a killer who won’t go down without a deadly fight.”
The novel alternates between first-person POV information on Andrea Strickland and Tracy's investigation. The story has an intriguing plot, and the well-developed characters, with lots of twists and turns to provide a captivating read.
Many thanks to Robert Dugoni, Thomas And Mercer and NetGalley, for providing an ARC.
An enjoyable, albeit straight forward mystery. Easy reading, but like the other book oks in this series, quite good. The series has improved over time.
This is the fourth installment in exciting Tracy Crosswhite series by Robert Dugoni.
Tracy Crosswhite is called to investigate when a dead girl’s body is found in a crab pot. During the investigation, the woman’s identity is revealed to be Andrea Strickland who went missing a few days ago from a hiking trip with her husband. The story is narrated from interesting alternate views, Tracy’s investigation and Andrea’s journal. Tracy who is still haunted by her sisters murder takes this case personally and is driven along with her team to find Andrea’s killer.
This book started a little slow for me but it soon picked up pace and the story was interesting with some twists and turns. A thoroughly enjoyable fast read and looking forward to the next one in the series.
Many thanks to Thomas & Mercer & NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.

Thanks to netgalley for the privilege of reading this brilliant book. I have not read any of Robert Dugoni's books before, and I was not disappointed.
The Trapped Girl is book four in the series, but reads nicely as a standalone. It was really an awesome read, and worth your effort and time!
This is another solid effort by an always-entertaining author. He manages to wrap up the main story while keeping readers interested and eager in a continuing storyline that leaps from book to book.
Robert Dugoni has zeroed in on a delightful character in Tracy Crosswhite. A 20 year veteran of the Seattle PD but also somewhat of a loose cannon. The supporting characters have enough depth to them that Tracy shines that little bit extra. The nature of homicide investigations long days and often longer nights that puts a strain on family, relationships, and they're daily life.
Mr Dugoni works through the plot like a pro. The initial murder that ultimately leads to a serial killer. The frustration of no evidence or in some cases conflicting evidence. The political nature of a police department and the clashes of personalities that can lead to long standing bitterness. The nature of stripping and prostitution where the women continue to put themselves directly in the path of a killer because the need for money is a necessity of life.
The backdrop of Seattle also works. The city itself acts as a character. The new serial killer, the Cowboy, is compared to The Green River Killer and Ted Bundy, who got his start in the Pacific Northwest. I haven't specifically looked on Google Earth but this reads like a novel that you could follow the streets along with Officer Crosswhite.
No specific criticisms that need to be brought up. Would I have liked more of anything, probably. Are there things that should have been left out, probably. But this isn't my novel. Mr Dugoni has written a good second act to My Sisters Grave. If I had everything that I wanted I'd have him saying the same thing about my book, I wish there had been.....
I look forward to act 3 of Tracy Crosswhites life in the SPD.
My thanks to the Publisher, NetGalley, and Robert Dugoni for my free copy in exchange for my unbiased opinion.
5*
A special thanks to NetGalley, Robert Dugoni and Thomas and Mercer for providing me with an ARC of THE TRAPPED GIRL, the fourth in THE TRACY CROSSWHITE SERIES by Robert Dugoni in exchange for an honest review.
I first became aware of Robert Dugoni and his fantastic talent as a superb storyteller, when I read MY SISTER'S GRAVE as 'Book of the Month' for a Goodreads Book Club.
I like many of the characters in the story - Tracy Anne Crosswhite, Dan O'Leary, Del, Kins, Faz, and Sherlock and Rex, Dan's dogs. Tracy is a detective with Seattle, Washington PD.
The story starts with Kurt Schill fishing for crabs out of season and pulling up his crab pot and finding the body of a woman.
Who is she?
Where did she come from?
How did she end up attached to his crab pot?
Is someone looking for her?
There are lots of twists and turns to the plot with several red herrings and surprises. I made several guesses to identify the murderer.
THE TRAPPED GIRL is my favourite book in the series. Robert Dugoni had me hurriedly turning pages to find out what happened next. At the same time I was enjoying the novel so much that I didn't want to reach the end.
I highly recommend this novel.
While it took a few pages to get into the story, once I did, I was hooked! And the author didn't disappoint, with lots of twists and turns, challenges to our determined investigating officer and her colleagues and a good backstory on the main players.
I will definitely watch for more titles by Robert Dugoni.
I received a free copy of this book, from the publisher and author, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to the publisher, Thomas & Mercer, the author, Robert Dugoni, and NetGalley.
Robert Dugoni does not fail in the next book in his Tracy Crosswhite series. Gripping from the beginning, this novel does not let you put it down. He Brings in aspects form previous novel but does not recant the past for the reader. He gives enough of a review to refresh the reader but does not make it go on and on.
I will try not to give away any spoilers here, but no promises. Why would she try to conceal their identity? Who was she running from? What really happened? All these questions were running through by brain while reading this novel. Every time I thought I had figured it out there was another twist that would leave me dumbfounded.
What started out as one illegal activity ended up revealing another illegal activity, a murder. You follow that case through in the eyes of the detective, and see the case from the point of view of a missing person, Andrea Strickland. Is Andrea the girl in the crab pot or is she still missing? As you follow the case you meet numerous characters, each developing in their own way. The characters that continue from book to book grow noticeably. The depth of characters adds a layer to the novel that leaves readers questioning each one.
Tracy Crosswhite seems to relate every case she has back to the murder of her sister. This fact is seen in all of his books, but it seems repetitive from book to book. There are only so many cases that can remind her of her sister, even after the case had been solved.
Overall, Robert Dugoni has done it again! He showed his expertise in mystery. This was not only about who committed the murder but also about who the victim really was, and how they got there. The twists and turns keep the reader gripped from page one to the last sentence.
Book Review:
The Trapped Girl (Tracey Crosswhite #4)
by Robert Dugoni
Publish Date 24 Jan 2017
I loved this book! I could not put it down, if not for work and other obligations (like, you know.. sleep), it would have been one that I read straight through. Another one of those "is she really dead or just trying to disappear"books like The Dead Letters.. only this time you actually are cheering for them in your head. Great character development. This one stands alone without the previous books in the series.
Detective Crosswhite is trying to solve the murder of a woman found in a crab trap, add in two missing people, jurisdictional disputes, and another murder and it's a great mystery to unravel. Robert used just the right amount of personal details to make his characters seem like real people with real lives. 5 stars!
3.5 stars. This was another solid installment in this series. The mystery was strong with reveals being made slowly, which added to the suspense of what was going on. The characters/relationships between Tracey and her team are the highlight of this series. We didn't learn a great deal more about Tracey in this one, but we did see growth in her character and the ability to move on from her past.
I gave it 5 stars on Goodreads, not sure if that link shows you that.
I got approved for this book but due to not having read the other books, I tried to read it but it was confusing as things had happened in the other books.
This is a fantastic addition to the Tracy Crosswhite series. Another great thriller by Dugoni! I love his Tracy Crosswhite character and this one had her on another case that was rife with excitement and danger. There were a few twists along the way. This one kept me captivated!
I really love Dugoni's books, . When a young teenaged male accidentally snags a large Crab pot and struggles to bring it in he certainly doesn't expect it to contain a dead female. The victim is eventually identified but then all sort of twists and turns begin and never let the reader totally know what's coming or who did it. It was an excellent read and I'll buy all of his books. about the character Tracy Crosswhite. The Trapped Girl is an excellent mystery you're sure to enjoy.
When a young woman's body is discovered inside a crab pot pulled from the Puget Sound, Detective Tracy Crosswhite is called to the scene. During the search to discover who this young woman is it becomes apparent that things aren't as they seem. Was the woman running from someone and they caught up to her, or is the woman in the crab pot really who detectives think she is?
I really enjoyed this novel! I love the series and also love the author!
Murder, bad cop, good cop, disappearances, self-involved man. What a story!
Another great addition to the Tracy Crosswhite series! This time Tracy is trying to solve the death of a woman found in a crab pot. This case involves homicide, missing persons, and jurisdictional fights. I really enjoyed how there were interspersed chapters from the viewpoint of the victim. It was interesting to see what was going on in her life, especially seeing things the police didn't know yet. This is my favorite Tracy Crosswhite book so far. Mr. Dugoni does a great job of keeping the series fresh and interesting. I have read other homicide detective series where each book is nearly the same as the previous with only the killer changing. That is not at all the case with the Tracy Crosswhite series. Every book has been different with the characters we know and love. A great series!
I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley.
A fake social security number, no employment-the victim is now a ghost on the run.
Tracy Crosswhite has another case that consumes her and thus consumes me. I love this series, I love the heart of this detective as she takes cases personally. The victim is woman that was found in a lobster trap. Of course you have the obvious questions. Who is she? Who wanted her dead? What lead to her death? Each of these questions lead you to more intrigue. As each question is answered, the narration goes into the victim's voice that you have a different side of the circumstances. I can't give to much away because each discovery takes a different turn to the very end.
Crosswhite own past comes into play because of her own sister who was brutally murdered. Feeling responsible, she becomes determined to find justice to the victim and their families. She struggles to make things right and doesn't give up.
A Special Thank You to Thomas & Mercer and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
This book begins with a young man checking on some illegal lobster traps in Puget Sound. When he pulls them up, he discovers a body. Tracy Crosswhite and her team are called in to investigate. The book alternate its chapters between the detective investigation and flashbacks telling the story of the woman that is supposed be in trap.
As with many mysteries many things are not what they seem and red herrings abound. The ending was, in my opinion, beyond satisfactory.
