This is the 4th book in a series and even though I haven't read the first 3 in the series, that didn't affect my ability to keep up. I especially loved how in a sea of novels involving crimes and a missing girl, I didn't feel like it was a book I'd read before. There is way more than meets the eye with this novel. The plot is intriguing, the characters are well-developed and there are quite a few surprises that I didn't see coming.
This novel fits perfectly with the sentiment that you have to watch out for the quiet ones. The victim in this novel, a young woman found submerged in a lobster trap in the Puget Sound, is described by her co-workers and husband as a quiet introvert who would rather read than leave the house to spend time with people. But as Detective Tracy Crosswhite begins to investigate this woman's disappearance and death, she quickly learns that there is so much more to this woman than anyone in her life realized. The Trapped Girl borrows minor plot devices from bestselling thrillers, but because of the victim's bookish personality, the author acknowledges these other novels as inspiration for the character's actions. What could become lazy writing instead helps move the story along in a more realistic fashion. I haven't read the three "Tracy Crosswhite" novels that come before this one, but that didn't affect my ability to follow Book 4. However, I've grown attached to Tracy and her fellow detectives, so I'll probably go back and read the first three books.
Robert Dugoni's latest book, "The Trapped Girl" is the fourth installment of the Tracy Crosswhite series. Having read the the first three books, I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book. Once again, Dugoni does not disappoint. The story begins with a woman's body found stuffed in a crab pot by a high school student in Puget Sound. During the autopsy it is determined that the victim had facial reconstruction surgery. The dead woman is referred to as "a ghost on the run," because there are no leads regarding her true identity.
Tracy Crosswhite is the lead investigator on the case, along with Del, Faz and Kins. Dugoni does a masterful job of character development. There is very believable chemistry between the four detectives. Tracy's bitter past also resurfaces as she becomes very determined to find the killer of the dead woman. She constantly thinks of her sister Sarah, whose remains were found years after she was abducted. Tracy is intent on providing closure for the dead woman's family.
Robert Dugoni provides many layers to this story. As the reader is pulled deeper into the mystery, many of the layers are peeled away to expose more twists and turns. As with his other books in this series, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. When the ending is revealed, I promise you will never see it coming.
Thank you to NetGalley, Thomas & Mercer and Robert Dugoni for providing me a copy of this book in return for an unbiased review. (less)
Another action packed, well-written page turner from Robert Dugoni. I was once again quickly caught up in the storyline. I cannot recommend this author enough to people who love a good mystery. He just has a way of reeling you into the story and not letting go of his momentum.
This is the 4th book in the Tracy Crosswhite series and, probably, my favorite one (so far). I loved the story straight away. A dead woman caught in a crab pot… I mean… YES, you have my attention Mr. Dugoni.
I like books that are unclear. Who is the good guy… Who is the bad guy… Who is the victim? I like a book that doesn't make easy choices and explores the reasons that people do what they do. It makes it harder to root for a person or easier to root for the "bad" guy. This is one of those books. Who are you actually rooting for?
I received an ARC of this book with the hope that I will leave an Unbiased Opinion. I was not required to leave a review, positive or otherwise, and my opinions are just that... my opinions.
Just when I thought I'd figured out who did the murders there was a twist.
It was a very captivating story from the beginning, a 4 Stars read for me, it got my full attention and i enjoyed it, with all the the unexpected and sometimes expected twists , until i got closer to the end, in what i thought of as the closure. But that's when the final twist turned it into a 5 Stars story for me.
I was already familiar with Detective Tracy Crosswhite and her team (My Sister's Grave). and i also already enjoyed the author's style, so i settled for a very pleasant read.
The story got me confused though: A woman was found murdered and hidden in a Crab pot and thrown into the water, who obviously was never meant to be found. Some evidence from the autopsy was found that suggested that this woman was trying to run away from something or someone. But who exactly?
This was not what confused me, it was the fact that i thought the story was quite obvious from the beginning and for a moment i was wondering what the author was thinking (very presumptuous of me, i know! :D )
Well, everything turned out to be much more complicated than i imagined.
The characters were really good, and i felt they were well written, and the variety of setting for this story was also interesting. I like it when everyone seems to be guilty and when i can't really tell where the story is going I enjoyed very much following the threads of this investigation.
I would recommend it!
This book was an excellent mystery, twisting plot, great characters, kept you guessing till the very end!! Want to read more books by Robert Dugoni!!
I have enjoyed all of the books in the Tracy Crosswhite series and so far this is my favorite. There is more suspense and more twists and surprises. Keeps you guessing until the end. It was an exciting plot and I love all the characters, especially Tracy Crosswhite. Her character has developed so much since she was first introduced in "My Sister's Grave". I also enjoyed the author's flashback writing style. It made it more suspenseful.
I definitely recommend this book and the whole series to anyone looking for a great thriller read.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for supplying a copy of Robert Dugoni's "The Trapped Girl" in exchange for a honest review.
A plot and characters and locations that captivate you and stay with you.
Engaging, suspenseful, dramatic, and touching.
Well written and wonderful to read
What a great read. I haven't read the first three books in the series, but I will definitely go back and read more about this detective! This was a great tale of mystery and relationships that kept you guessing until the end.
This is the fourth book in the Tracy Crosswhite series. I have read them all but this book could easily be read as a standalone. As in all of these books, the plot was interesting and contained many twists, many of them unexpected. This book, unlike the others, was more tightly written and did not do the irritating, confusing things that the previous books did. The author used the device of interspersing first person comments by one of the characters among the chapters. This moved the story along and provided insight into the thoughts and actions of the character. I liked this a lot. Not a literary masterpiece but certainly entertaining and better written than the first 3 books in the series.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an eARC of this book in exchange for this review.
This is the fourth book in the Tracy Crosswhite mystery/detective series and can be read as a stand-alone book, but in my opinion is more enjoyable if you read them all in order to understand the characters better. (I started with second book and liked it so much that I went and bought book one-I have been hooked ever since!). The audible versions of the Tracy Crosswhite books are fabulous too, I like to listen when I can’t sit down and read. The same narrator reads all the Tracy Whitecross novels and she does a great job.
I loved this book, and thought it was the best one yet so far in the series. Its well written, has great character development, and a good original story. I didn’t want to put it down once I started reading, I felt transported into Tracy’s world. Love that about a good book. I highly recommend this book to anymore who enjoys a good leading female mystery/detective book.
**A special thank you to NetGalley, the author Robert Dugoni, and Thomas & Mercer for providing me an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review**
Dugoni has a winner in Tracy Crosswhite, who is as persistent as she is smart. This latest installment in the series can be read as a standalone but warning- you'll want to read more. My only quibble with this very well done mystery/procedural is the high body count. I get that that's part of the story but it just struck me as too much. This is well written, the characters- especially Tracy but also members of her team- are people you'd want on your side. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. Try this one for a page turning plot driven read.
The Trapped Girl, the fourth in the Tracy Crosswhite Series, could easily be read as a standalone but you’d miss the subtle development of character by not starting with book one.
The environs of Seattle once again play a central piece of the pie as the body of a woman is pulled up in a crab pot in Puget Sound. Brings new meaning to the word trapped. Detective Crosswhite and her team find themselves involved in a complicated plot to discover the identity of the possibly murdered woman. Dugoni chooses some interesting means to unfold the story of said victim. There are clues throughout if you pay close attention and though I wasn’t as crackerjack with my conclusions as Crosswhite, I played detective quite well.
Though there is a woman gone missing intriguingly on Mount Rainier, I missed what I already saw as a trademark of this series, the cold case. There’s a hint that there could be one in book #5. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
The two things that have kept me reading this series are the locale and Crosswhite herself. I didn’t learn much new about Tracy this go round, but did see growth as she begins to move in new directions after finding a sense of closure in the discovery of her murdered sister’s body and killer after twenty years. The wrap-up was satisfactory and hopeful for my new favorite female detective.
When a woman’s body is discovered submerged in a crab pot in the chilly waters of Puget Sound, Detective Tracy Crosswhite finds herself with a tough case to untangle. Before they can identify the killer, Tracy and her colleagues on the Seattle PD’s Violent Crimes Section must figure out who the victim is. Her autopsy, however, reveals she may have gone to great lengths to conceal her identity. So who was she running from?
After evidence surfaces that their Jane Doe may be a woman who suspiciously disappeared months earlier, Tracy is once again haunted by the memory of her sister’s unsolved murder. Dredging up details from the woman’s past leads to conflicting clues that only seem to muddy the investigation. As Tracy begins to uncover a twisted tale of brutal betrayal and desperate greed, she’ll find herself risking everything to confront a killer who won’t go down without a deadly fight. Once again, New York Times bestselling author Robert Dugoni delivers a taut, riveting thriller in the fourth installment of his acclaimed Tracy Crosswhite series.

Another home run from Robert Dugoni! This whole series have been fantastic and THE TRAPPED GIRL is no exception.
This book is set mainly in Seattle and I really appreciate Mr. Dugoni's knowledge of this area. I am a local and through reading this book, I even found an attraction that I wasn't aware of. I plan on checking out the lighthouse on Alki the next time I am in the city.
This book, and series, is based on Tracy Crosswhite who is a Seattle Honicide detective. And she sure come across some unusual cases. And I have to admit that I really enjoy watching her solve those cases but even more than that, I have enjoyed watching Tracy grow and change throughout the series. She has learned that she can depend on others, that friends can become a family and that she isn't too old or set in her ways for love.
I highly recommend this book and this series to anyone who enjoys mysteries and police procedural books that feature a kick ass heroine. Who knows, you might find a new place to check out in Seattle also.
*** I received this book at no charge from NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions expressed within are my own.
I received this book from NetGalley. Many thanks to Thomas and Mercer and Robert Dugoni.
I have read several books by Robert Dugoni and I have enjoyed all of them and this one did not disappoint! This book had an excellent plot and well developed characters. This is the 4th book in the series, but can be easily read if you haven't read the previous books. Tracy Crosswhite, a detective is called to a murder scene where a woman has been found dead in a crab pot off of Puget Sound. This is a suspenseful murder mystery where there are many twists and turns and kept me turning the pages to figure out the mystery. If you like a good mystery, I would highly recommend this book!
Detective Tracy Crosswhite returns in The Trapped Girl, the fourth in this excellent series. This time she and her crew are confronted with the body of a woman which has been found in a crab pot in the Puget Sound. It becomes clear that her identification will not be easy and in fact it appears she might have tried to conceal who she is. Why? Who is she fleeing from? Finding the answer will lead Tracy into a maze of greed and betrayal. The writing is excellent, as usual, and the plotting fast and convoluted. Loved it.

Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley provided me with an electronic copy of The Trapped Girl. This is my honest opinion of the book.
In this fourth installment of the Tracy Crosswhite series, Tracy and the rest of the Seattle PD's Violent Crimes Section are involved in the case of a woman who was found submerged in a crab pot. Before they can chase down the criminal responsible, the team must use all of the tools at their disposal to determine the woman's true identity. As the case brings up feelings in Tracy regarding her sister's murder years before, will it compromise her ability to let go of the case? As the investigation heats up , with regards to the woman and her past, will the detectives be able to sift through the layers and get to the truth?
Tracy Crosswhite is the type of main character that I love getting to know. It is refreshing to have a strong female lead character who does not have a tragic flaw. The dogged determination for the truth is not clouded by drugs or alcohol, like many main characters as of late. Her empathy towards her victims and their families is a real asset and comes through clearly in how she tackles each case. It does not seem like the character is slowing down any time soon, so I look forward to reading more about her in future books. I would recommend The Trapped Girl to readers who like police procedural/thrillers, regardless of whether they have read the previous novels.

I really enjoy the Tracy Crosswhite books and this is up there with the best of them. With a convoluted plot and a cast of strong, believable characters, Robert Dugoni explores not only crime, but the human psyche. Fast paced and believable this is another winner!
