I found the amount of information thrown at the readers at the beginning a bit disconcerting but I finally decided that I was going to read all the books that I had started but not finished in January of this years and this was the first one I finished. However, I found the pacing slow, especially considering the viciousness of the murders. Editing would have helped this book, dialogue could have been cut and this would have made the pace faster and the reading more enjoyable. This is something that will improve as the writer continues to write.
While this is a murder mystery is not what most readers expect when they read this genre; it adds a fantasy element with gods and monsters and skills that aren’t considered normal. The author does a wonderful job of building both his world and his characters. Just when I though the Sequa was incapable of honesty she would surprise me and the other characters are equally enjoyable. I am glad I finally made myself finish this book and I would read something else by this author.
