Sweet romance with a feel good vibe to the story. Braxton and his brothers are opening a spa to honor their late sister, so Braxton is the one that is supposed to hire a masseuse. Braxton is surprised to learn that the masseuse he connects with, Cora, is blind. These two feel a pull towards each other, but they decide to keep things professional and just be friends. The attraction won't be denied though! Both characters are likable; I liked Braxton's protective nature. I didn't care for the picture painted of Braxton in the beginning; he had a bad break-up, so he's been a bit of a manwhore. Cora's good for him though, and I liked them together. Loved that Cora doesn't let her blindness rule her life; she wants to be independent, which is great! Cora's family wants Cora to live a certain way, but I appreciate Cora going her own way. Overall, an enjoyable feel good read!
I have not had a chance to read this book, Once I have gotten a chance to read it I will edit this review to reflect my thoughts and feeling on the book.
This is the second installment in The Monroes series but can also be read as a standalone. In this book we get to learn more about Braxton. Braxton and his two brothers promised their sister that they would build and run a women's only resort and spa. With the construction coming to an end, the next step is to find people to staff the place. Braxton has been nominated (by loosing a game of rock, paper, scissors) to interview the person that wants to be the masseuse, by having her give him a massage. Braxton is not sure how he feels about this.
Cora has applied for the masseuse position at the resort and spa. Cora went blind 3 years ago due to a degenerative illness. Cora is not real sure about this job but she does not want to be a burden to her parents the rest of her life. Her millionaire parents have a guy picked out for her that they want Cora to marry and she is not fond of that at all. Braxton and Cora immediately hit it off, but with both of them not being sure of this relationship, they keep things to a friendship for awhile.
Braxton's feelings for Cora just continue to get stronger and stronger. He is very protective of Cora and does not want to see her get hurt at all, and Braxton is still leery of his past heart break, so there is a lot to work through for these two.
Jules Bennett gave us a great installment of The Monroes with this read. I can't wait to read about the next Monroe in the upcoming book. This is one you will not want to put down until you get to the end.
I love this series! The Monroe brothers are working together to bring their deceased sister's dream alive. She made plans to restore a southern mansion in the small town of Haven, GA and turn it into a women's retreat. In this novel, the second installment of the series, middle brother, Braxton, finds his match in the retreat's new masseuse, Cora. She has relocated to Haven, determined to leave behind her family's money and expectations, and live independently. She lost her eyesight three years prior and is looking for a place where she won't be judged by her handicap. From the moment Braxton hears her voice, he is attracted to her. The more he gets to know her, the more he is in awe of her strength and determination. Neither want to get involved as they try to keep their relationship professional. It is fun to watch them fail miserably at that due to their chemistry. It's also fun to get to see the couple from book one, Zach and Sophie, as their relationship progresses. And, of course, we get to see the three adopted brothers make steps to repair their fractured relationship. The book can standalone but is best enjoyed in order. The series is romantic and sexy, and I am looking forward to Liam's story.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington books are providing an advanced copy.
New to me author but now I'm a convert! Will need to go back and start this series at the beginning.
The series is based on the plans of the Monroe brothers to open a women-only resort spa to honor the memory of their sister, adopted sister, Chelsea who had hopes and dreams of a resort/spa for women. When her best friend and brothers found her plans they determined to open the spa according to Chelsea's blueprint. Each of the Monroe brothers has an individual traumatic childhood prior to their adoption by the 'saintly' Monroe's. This story introduces us to history professor, peacemaker, Braxton. Braxton's soon-to-be sister-in-law Sophie is interviewing for the masseuse for the new spa and she determines that the interview should be hands-on. Braxton somehow was selected to 'test out' the new prospect, sight unseen. He lays on the massage table face down and he enters the room and intraduces him to the pleasure of a hot stone massage. Despite his trepidation he is overcome by the massage and can't wait to actually see the masseuse, Cora.
Cora is from a very well do to family with business oriented but emotionally detached parents. They have her future planned, husband picked out for her as well, but it looks nothing like the future she has in mind. She is a trained accountant and a licensed massage therapist trying to prove to herself and to her family that she can be independent, despite blindness. Her relationship with her canine partner, Heidi, is perfect!.
The author doesn't tell us about the relationship but rather paints a picture with her words. Braxton is soon overcome with his emotions and his own feelings about Cora ...."He did not authorize any of these mental shenanigans." Her handicap, if her blindness is to be considered a handicap, allows her to see through her fingertips and he finds that "absolutely mesmerizing and fascinating." Braxton's approach to his relationship with Cora is not to manage or control her but to provide her with experiences that she might be missing. Bringing her to a large field to drive a jeep was the perfect way for Braxton to provide her an opportunity to do something that was acutely missing from her life, drive independently.
Money can't buy love, childhood traumas can build strong loving adults, disability may not be a handicap and family does not require a biologic relationship. I wish that I had read the earlier book in the series and I will do that now. Thank you to Zebra and Netgalley for recommending this author and series
This is the second book in this series that I have read by this author and it was even better than the first. This is Braxton and Cora's story. Braxton is one of the Monroe brothers (Zach, Liam and Braxton) who along with their sister's best friend, Sophie, have decided to create a resort/spa retreat for women only. It was their late sister Chelsea's dream and she had made sure they had to work together to accomplish it.
Cora is blind and is struggling for her independence. She is from a very wealthy family who can't accept that she can be independent now that she has gone blind. She just wants as normal a life as she can have with her disability. She is independent and strong but her family can't see that.
Braxton is smitten from the first time Cora lays her hands on him and gives him a massage. He was determined to never let another woman in his life after his fiance' broke his heart but Cora has a way of reaching in and grabbing hold of his heart, even though she is trying.
Can these two overcome the heartache their hearts have experienced and give a forever love a try? This is a sweet story and you will enjoy getting acquainted with these wonderful characters from Haven.
I'm not a fan of descriptive sex scenes and while this author isn't always super graphic, I appreciate more of the closed door sex rather than a very descriptive version.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I love this series, and this one is just as awesome as the last. Loved it!
Every once in a long while, a story comes along, where it is so well written , that it touches you deep into your soul, this story is one of those special ones. Here the author has created characters who have so much dimension and personality, it is easy to relate and form an attachment. The emotions run high, the joys are numerous, but so are the lows and the sadness that is difficult to escape when one experiences a tragedy and/or disability.
Braxton and Cora's story is touching in so many ways...from the tragedies and disability that surrounds them, their relationship is a marvel in creating a new beginning for both of them. Since I did not read Zach and Sophie's story in the first book of the series...which I on plan on remedying...there were a few times more of the backstory would have been helpful. Though it is laced throughout, at times it was a bit vague and didn't provide enough to clear up my confusion. I do look forward to reading Liam and Macy's story out next.
This book was provided by the Publisher and Netgalley, I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
4.5 Stars
I was completely ensnared by this book. One of the reasons was the heroine Cora. She's unique and a very strong character. Then you add in Braxton you just have a recipe for a great story. I felt the chemistry between the two. There are moments that I teared up in this book. It did bring out emotions in me, The reason the brothers are opening the spa just tugs at my heart. Over all this book is truly beautiful. I can't wait for the next book.
What I love about this book, is it was just, a romance. There was no focus on "how many sex scenes can I write". I felt the characters emotions, their feelings. I read this story and felt them falling in love. Well written, you feel what these characters feel. What I liked most about Cora, was that she was different. She was not your average, perfect woman. That made her instantly likable! Braxton, he jumps in with both feet and it's just admirable! This is a great romantic story that will leave you smiling at the end, wishing you could read more. Not once did I feel like I was late to the series, nothing really made me confused or left out. This is certainly a stand alone, but I now am in love with these brothers and look forward to reading more about them!
