A disappointment. Although the series has some good entries, this one fails to engage. Maybe it's because there are too many characters, or perhaps the Big Foot myth is not a good addition to the tale/series.
I always love these Grizzly Falls Montana books. I love the characters and the slightly strange residents of the town . The romance is threaded in with a light touch and the macabre killings always add to the pleasure .
This is the first book that I have read in this series and I can't wait to read them all. I really liked the character of Regan Pescoli and it will be interesting to read the earlier books in the series to see how her character has developed. There were plenty of characters in this one to keep me guessing "whodunnit" right to the end.
A strong 4 stars
Finally I got to read this amazing novel from Lisa Jackson, thanks to NetGalley. It is filled with suspense and mystery. Looking forward to the next journey of Detectives Regan and Selena in Willing to die
Lisa Jackson never disappoints and is consistant within her genre. This is the 7th in a series and if you've enjoyed her previous ones then you'll appreciate this one!
I have been an avid fan of Lisa Jackson for a long time. This book had me on the edge of my seat! Plan on losing sleep when you start reading this book, because you will not want to put it down! Very riveting! Highly recommend!
I was given the opportunity to read an electronic copy of Expecting to Die via NetGalley. I was under no obligation to review this book and my opinion is freely given.
Detective Regan Pescoli is days away from starting her maternity leave when her daughter Bianca stumbles upon a deceased young woman during a game of extreme tag. With her partner, Selena Alvarez, the pair have to wade through the rumors of a Sasquatch as the perpetrator to get to the truth before more bodies turn up. As a reality show, which turned up to film a reenactment of Bianca's Bigfoot sighting, ramps up the tensions around town, will Selena and Regan be able to pick their way through the lies to arrive at the truth?
Although Expecting to Die is part of a series with Regan and her partner Selena as the main characters, readers can just pick up this book without feeling lost. The background, especially for Regan, is well explained, leaving the case to be the star. There were a couple of times during the course of the book where the plot was akin to a cheesy horror movie, especially when the chances that people took made no sense considering the circumstances. Expecting to Die is a good police procedural suspense novel with not too many surprises, but it is a quick, solid read.
What another brilliant offering by Ms Jackson! This was the 7th book in the series already, but I think the book read nicely as a stand-alone. If there was references to events in the previous book it was done well and did not bother me. I could not wait to see if Big Foot really killed the people..... Entertaining read!

A lot has happened in Grizzly Falls and it’s been quite some time since I was able to immerse myself in this world. In fact, I thought the series had ended since it had been so long since the last installment, so I was ecstatic to see this book come out!
Regan Pescoli has married the sexy cowboy, Santana (yes!), and they’ve moved into the cabin they had built. Jeremy has finally settled down into what promises to be an upstanding adult following in his parents’ footsteps as he wants to be a cop! Regan is heavily pregnant with Santana’s baby and he is trying to get her to go on maternity leave, but when she gets a new case she just can’t make herself leave it open. She wants to finish it before taking her leave.
Bianca went up to Reservoir Point with her friends for a game where the boys try to capture the girls in the forest. But, Bianca isn’t just chased by the boys, but also by a big hairy thing that she can only describe as Big Foot! As she runs for her life she ends up falling and landing in a creek and discovers a dead body floating beside her! And, not only that, but it ends up being a girl from her school, Destiny. And, the police quickly discover that Destiny was pregnant, which could be a hell of a motive, if they can discover who the father of her baby is! However, Pescoli and Alvarez have their work cut out for them when their witnesses and persons of interest are all a bunch of teenagers, teenagers all with their own agendas and wanting to cover their own butts. They must wade through the lies to figure out the truth. All of which becomes even more difficult when a reality TV producer comes to town to shoot a show on Big Foot and wants Bianca to be his star! All of the suspects end up having some role in the show making the investigation that much more difficult. And, then another girl ends up dead …. And another. They must find out who is responsible before another victim loses their life! Maybe even Bianca …
I’m really glad that Jackson has picked this series back up. This was another enjoyable addition to the series. Although I wish, we had gotten to see more of Santana, I absolutely adore him! But this book focuses more on Bianca and the murder investigation and less on Regan’s relationship. Therefore we only see Santana in short glimpses.
We do, however, see a lot of teen angst in this one, friends covering up for each other, jealousy and the like. There are several suspects, too many really, that does make it hard to keep up with especially considering several brothers are suspects and it does become hard to keep everyone straight. I honestly never thought one of the kids were responsible though. However, the ending of this book truly surprised me, especially when it came to Regan’s ex, Lucky! There is so much I’d like to say, but don’t want to give away the storyline!
I’m happy to see that there are more books in store for this series still as the note at the end of the book tells us about the next installment of the series, so hopefully we won’t have to wait as long for that one to come out!
Deputy Regan Pescoli and her daughter, Bianca, get involved in a murder investigation when Bianca stumbles over a corpse in the woods. But this won't be the only body. Regan is pregnant and close to going out on maternity leave. Emotional, exhausted, and still dealing with her ex-husband, the last thing she wants is to have to face another serial killer.
And when media advances on the small town with a reality show, things only get worse.
And someone ...or something ... is watching it all.
Although part of a series, this one does okay as a stand alone. The plot seems complex and a bit hard to follow at times. There are so many characters, it's not always easy to see who they are and how they relate to the story. I spent some time backtracking on pages I'd already read.
Being a huge Lisa Jackson fan, I was somewhat disappointed with this one, but not enough to put the book down and not finish. I'm accepting of the fact that any particular author may not be able to hit it out of the ballpark every time.
Many thanks to the author / Kensington Books - Zebra / Netgalley for the digital copy. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
I am a huge fan of Lisa Jackson and I love the Alvarez & Pescoli series but this book focuses mainly on Pescoli's daughter Bianca. While at a party she discovers a dead body after being chased by someone resembling Bigfoot. This book then focuses on a group of Bigfoot hunters who want to produce a Television show and want Bianca to star in it. This book was well written but I thought the Bigfoot storyline was a little over the top but I think YA readers would love this book.
This was a quick read for me; I was immediately pulled into the story and through most of the book didn't want to put it down. There were moments or stretches where the story lulled (hence the rating). At some points in the police investigation, the investigation felt like Selena and Regan were spinning their wheels. I know this happens in real investigations and it did fell real to the story
I think I may have been more engaged in this thriller if I had read the previous ones. There is a history between the partners detectives Regan Pescoli and Selena Alvarez. Regan is now expecting a child and is at the end of her pregnancy when a murder of young woman is found by her own daughter Bianca. A class mate that no one seems to know or the students hiding something. The town is keeping secrets that are deadly.
The whole town cuts loose in the sighting of Big Foot and the murder of two young girls. Pescoli doesn't believe it but she does believe someone chased her daughter down the mountain. Pescoli and Alvarez work together to uncover what the secrets are that lead to who the killer is. As always, with secrets, you always have surprises.
In solving crimes, Pescoli has to balance pregnancy, dealing with her ex, and a daughter who is seeking fame. Can she do without compromising those that she loves.
A Special Thank You to Kensington Books and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
I've dipped in and out of this series over the years so I was especially pleased when I was granted an ARC on Netgalley to read this latest installment. Jackson continues to write twisty, entertaining mystery thrillers and she continues to build on her characters. Pescoli is the person we'd all like to work with Alvarez to solve a homicide. They have a good rapport- the dialogue is entirely believable. I liked Bianca, who is a typicak teen- needy one moment and snarky the next. If you like this series, this is a good one; if you haven't read it before, this is fine a a standalone. There's a lot of characters but you'll know who to keep your eyes on. It's a page turner and one of the better in the serial killer genre.
Ms. Jackson does a phenomenal job of crafting edge-of-your-seat suspense. I've been a fan ever since I read Deep Freeze. This book gets your heart pounding and keeps you reading well past your bedtime. Pescoli and Alvarez make a great team and kick ass when it comes to taking down the bad guy. The murder investigation is proving to be quite tricky in this case, not to mention a Bigfoot sighting that is a puzzler. Hold onto your seats because you're in for a wild ride. This author is always on my auto-buy list. Read one and you'll see why.
Lisa Jackson again hits the mark with the seventh book in the Alvarez and Pescoli novel.. Pescoli deals with pregnancy, reality TV and of course a serial killer...Good stuff.
The dead body of a teenage girl is discovered while a group of teenagers are playing a midnight game of hide and seek in the woods. Detective Pescoli, who is due to give birth any day, and Detective Alvarez are on the case. The suspect list is long and the case becomes increasingly difficult as more teenagers begin to disappear and more bodies are being discovered. I found this story to be highly engaging and it kept my interest from beginning to end. I look forward to reading more books in this series!
Expecting To Die, the seventh Pescoli and Alvarez novel, is set in eerie, dangerous Grizzly Falls, Montana. There a group of teenagers are playing in the woods when Pescoli’s daughter finds a body of a classmate while being chased by “bigfoot”. This sighting brings in a reality show that makes dealing with this and the following disappearances harder and harder to investigate as the deceits and sensationalism grow.
This was another good read by Lisa Jackson. It can be read as a stand alone, however it would be better read in series order due to the continuing story arc.
ARC provider by NetGalley in return for a fair review
I love series that are set in small towns and Grizzly Falls is one of those places where you come to feel like you know everyone there and could easily navigate the streets if you came to visit. It's also the perfect setting for a book where a killer need a place to hide--with the forest and mountains and location out of the way of the modern world surroundings. The author takes full advantage of that and thrills her readers from beginning to end with "Expecting to Die."
I've always had a thing for Lisa Jackson books because I know the suspense will be high and it will be hard to guess the ending, and this book is no exception to that rule. This novel has a pretty large cast of characters and gets more complex as the plot moves along, but is never confusing. I liked Bianca a lot in this book and although some of the subject matter could have gone awry and become worthy of an eye-roll, it never did. Lisa Jackson could turn just about anything into a solid hair-raising story, just as she proved with this book.
I'm a glutton for punishment. I love reading thrillers at night, when the house is dark, or when we are out in the wilderness somewhere camping and away from civilisation. This is just the kind of novel that would scare the living daylights out of me in such a situation (it did, at night, on the couch) and so if you, like me, want to go prematurely grey with worry over what is stalking you that you can't see but can feel just beyond the tree line, this is the book for you.
In the end, this was a great book with a lot to recommend it. If you love stories that never stop and hardly slow down, surprise endings and characters that make you care what happens to them, this is a great book to choose. Read the rest of the series as well, they're a lot of fun, too.
This review is based on a complementary copy from the publisher, provided by Netgalley. All opinions are my own.
Grizzly Falls, Montana, a quiet town to raise a family…until…it is not! Regan Pescoli is a cop due for maternity leave soon. Then, her older daughter Bianca finds a dead body after being chased by a Sasquatch(yes…that’s what I said!). Regan cannot have this baby yet. She is in a race against the clock to solve these murders in her small town.
Bianca is a typical teenager, easily manipulated and very quick with the attitude. I was not a huge fan of her character at the start of this read. She redeems herself as the tale weaves along. She has a strong fortitude and intellect which shows itself the more you get to know her. And, her mother Regan is one of the best female characters ever. She chooses her battles (especially with her ex) very carefully and wins quite a few.
This is a true action packed read. Lisa Jackson always has the best “run away” scenes. I got out of breath as Bianca makes a run for it, not once, but twice in this story.
I have read a couple of books in this series. I have not read them in order nor have I read them all. Does not really matter, you can pick up any of her novels in any series and just start reading.
Lisa Jackson is a very consistent writer. I enjoy her books especially on trips. Her novels are fast-paced and suspenseful. I do not think I have ever “not finished” one of her books. Have I read them all? Absolutely not. She has tons of novels, with many different settings and characters. So, pick your favorite setting and take her on!
I received this novel from Netgalley for a honest review.
