Lisa Jackson is a favorite author of mine and this book is a great example of why that is. I read two of the earlier books in this series over a year ago. You don't need to read the others to follow what's happening here but since the books I've read, a lot has happened with the main characters. Children have grown and beloved characters are gone.
The series follows two female detectives solving crimes in a Montana backwoods type town. For those following the series, Detective Pescoli, has her baby and names the baby in this book. Detective Alvarez plays more back-up in this book and Pescoli is more at the forefront.
In this latest book, one of the detective's now teenage child is involved in the latest crime, as she inadvertently becomes a witness when she finds the first dead body. For the detectives, It's a race against the clock and the town, who all seem to be keeping secrets, manipulating truths or telling outright lies. They follow the evidence and the clues to unravel the many twists and try to find a killer before he or she keeps killing. In the end, Bianca, the teenage daughter of Detective Pescoli, figures out that she's a lot more like her mother than she ever thought she could be. And that's a good thing. Another fast-paced, up all night, page turner!

3.5 Stars

I was already familiar with Lisa Jackson through one of her stand alone books " You don't want to know", which was really good. But this was the first of the "Alvarez and Pescoli" series that i read.

The story was interesting.
In the woods of Grizzly Falls, and during some night game with a group of friends from school, the daughter of Detective Pescoli stumbles upon the dead body of a girl, who happened to be a part of her circle of friends. That was just the beginning, another body was found, and then another, along with some other scary accidents in those mysterious woods.
Who was behind all this? Was the killer even human?

I liked how the story was mixed with some of the local urban legends, creating some mystery around the whole story. And how at some point everybody became a suspect.

I enjoyed reading it, but somehow i did not really get caught into the story as much as i hoped. There was something about Detective Pescoli i did really like.
Another drawback of the story was that i felt that some scenes made the book really long without adding some value to the story. The final twist was interesting though.

Overall, it was an enjoyable book.

Another great addition to this series! Suspense doesn't stop, not even until the end! Another winner from Jackson!

This was really good. Lisa Jackson is a phenomenal author, who creates spellbinding stories that offer up twists and turns that you would not believe! Honestly, I can figure out the story ending to most mystery books. But Lisa Jackson twists when I expect her to go straight, and the ending is always good.

I really want to say more but I can't spoil a really great read.

This was just OK. It seemed like I could have been reading any mystery/thriller by just about anyone.

Another engaging read. Was enjoyable, found the daughters to be a little annoying and all the kids a bit out-of-control. I enjoyed the ending and it finished in such a way as to make me want to read the next installment.

A group of teenagers gather to play a game of hide and seek and instead find the body of classmate, Destiny. In fact, the teenage girl that finds the body is none other than the daughter of Detective Regan Pescoli. Bianca tells her mother that just moments before discovery the body that some type of Big Foot/Sasquatch type creature was chasing her. Pescoli wonders "Did my daughter see Destiny's killer? " As the police search frantically for more clues, more young women go missing, the killer gets even closer.

I enjoyed reading the book, but didn't feel that it was hard to put down. Straightforward mystery solving, good characters, but I had pretty much figured out "whodunit" right away.

This is a very readable book. I zipped through it quite quickly, desperate to find out who did the dirty deed.

Plenty going on between the pages to keep the reader absorbed, obviously a series with a lot going for it. Already a friend is looking to read all of them. A really good mystery, lots of police work and very much a crime committed in a close knit community.

I received an arc via Net Galley in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Pescoli and Alvarez are back in Expecting to Die, the 7th installment in Lisa Jackson’s To Die series.

Detective Regan Pescoli is counting the days until her maternity leave. Exhausted and emotional, the last thing she needs is another suspected serial killer. Especially when her daughter, Bianca, is swept up in the media storm. Another body is found…and another. As the nightmare strikes closer to home, Pescoli races to find who’s responsible for the bodies popping up all over town.

It has been 2½ years since I read book six of this series, so some details of previous books were fuzzy. However, that did not stop me from enjoying Expecting to Die. Jackson does a good job of giving details about past events (without a full rehash) to make reading this book feel like reading a stand-alone.

The mystery here was interesting, but there were way too many characters involved. I found myself constantly wondering how one character was connected to the story and wishing I had been taking notes. Some of the enjoyment in trying to figure out who was behind the killings was lost in my confusion among the number of characters. However, that didn’t stop me from trying to guess who the killer was. And I was wrong every time! Jackson does a good job of building mystery and keeping readers guessing (this reader anyway), but I felt the ending was rushed. When I finished the book I wished Jackson had left out some of the characters, some of the background story in order to really focus on closing out this mystery with a bang. Yes, I was surprised, but I wanted a little bit more.

Will the series continue? Jackson has certainly left it open for at least one more book, which I would definitely like to see. A book that would wrap up the personal lives of Pescoli and Alvarez and give this reader closure. Plus, I do love a good mystery and the town of Grizzly Falls is full of mystery. If you want a mystery solved by some kick-ass female detectives, give Jackson’s To Die series a try.

I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley.

I always enjoy Lisa's books. They are so realistic that it is frightening. Thoroughly enjoyed it

I absolutely loved this book!! I always look forward to new books with Alvarez and Pescoli in them. They are one of my favorites crime fighting duos. I couldn't put it down and found myself reading or thinking about reading it constantly! The ending makes me curious about what is to come and I'm sad that I have to wait until 2018 to find out what's next!

I struggle with this review because this is the first book I have read by Lisa Jackson and it is book in a series.
This story seem to just trug along and at times with the endless backstories that I am sure are for first time readers to the story but honestly just got this reader lost many times over. I am not sure I could count how many different characters were in the book and some that were not necessary at times. I get that Detective Regan Pescoli is an angry woman and pregnant. I couldn't connect with her as a reader which made it difficult to connect to the story. I believe the author created Selena Alvarez for those who couldn't connect to Regan but instead of connecting I felt the story was disconnected and the characters had zero chemistry.

Many times the story simple fell flat and I struggled even finishing the book. Characters were hard to connect with, unnecessary characters in the story and the ending fell flat and unbelievable at times.

This book might give her followers the story they wanted but for new readers to her books it turned this reader off.

Full disclosure: I love Lisa Jackson’s romantic suspense novels. She knows how to craft a book that is creepy, intriguing and incredibly addicting.

And I’m happy to say that “Expecting to Die” is another winner!

The novel is a decidedly modern take on teenage drama, murder and – wait for it – the hunt for Bigfoot. Somehow Jackson is able to weave all of these elements into a tale that keeps you guessing and wanting more.

The story opens with the murder of a pregnant local teen, whose body is discovered during a teenage drinking party by homicide detective Regan Pescoli’s daughter, Bianca. More frightening is that Bianca says she discovered the body after being chased down a steep bank by a big, hairy creature that many in the town are quick to assume is a Sasquatch. As media attention focuses on the small town of Grizzly Falls and its teenage population, more bodies turn up, and Pescoli and her partner have to untangle what’s going on in the mountains.

Once the story got going, I really enjoyed the “fresh” elements of the story: reality television, social media, etc. are all big points in the story, since much of the storyline focuses on the teenage crowd that surrounds Bianca. And figuring out who knows who, who’s sleeping with who is incredibly intriguing, as you are just pushed into the drama. It’s like a murderous, delicious “Gossip Girl.”

I hadn’t read the other in Jackson’s Grizzly Falls series before this book, but had no problems picking it right up. In fact, it made me disappointed in myself that I had been slacking and hadn’t gotten into the Pescoli/Alvarez storyline yet! (My favorite is the New Orleans series!)

The four stars come in because after reading (and rereading) some parts, I still am a little unclear about the ending. Some elements were very clearly laid out, but one in particular is still unclear to me. Maybe once others pick this one up, we can discuss. It’s also a kind-of depressing take on the teenage crowd (similar to “The Most Dangerous Place on Earth”). You don’t come out with a lot of faith in the next generation.

But overall, I really enjoyed this book. I stayed up late last night to finish it because I had to know how it ended.

Highly recommended.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
The book opens with a young girl being attacked and the subsequent police investigation. The attack takes place in an area that is renowned for sightings of the legendary Big Foot and locals are soon whipping up rumours that the creature is responsible for the attack.
When the casualties grow and the lead detective's daughter is targeted, the hunt for the perpetrator becomes personal.
The first thing that struck me about this book is that it is very different from the other novels that I have read in the crime/mystery category. This is probably due to the introduction of a town desperate for notoriety and and some of the more extreme characters that are involved in this.
I really did enjoy the novel and its various twists. This is the first book in the series that I have read and I do think that I missed out a little on the two lead detective's back story and their rapport. Still, even as a stand alone novel it makes an excellent read.

Lisa Jackson never fails to bring me a book that is so suspenseful that you are guessing at every turn just who the "culprit" is. Expecting to Die was no different following Detectives Alvarez and Pescoli as they once again take on murders in Grizzly Falls. This time it hits close to home for Pescoli as her teenage daughter, Bianca is very involved. The timing for Pescoli couldn't be worse because she is mere weeks away from delivering her baby with Santana.

Bianca's friends seem to be either murder victims or suspects and time is running out before Bianca herself is face to face with death. Will Alvarez and Pescoli be able to break the teenage silence code before another person turns up dead? This is another fast paced Lisa Jackson thriller that will keep you guessing until the very end.

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley for a freely given honest review.

Having read and enjoyed all of the books from this series, the one thing I can safely say is I don't want to live in Grizzly Falls! Once again, there is a murderer on the loose in the small Montana community and it's up to Detectives Pescoli and Alvarez to discover the culprit hopefully before Pescoli has her baby. And if it it's not enough that there is a murderer on the loose, a reality show producer wants to add to the chaos by working in a Bigfoot sighting as well. Lisa Jackson has crafted a great mystery that will keep you guessing with all of the potential suspects. I look forward to more Pescoli and Alvarez mysteries although I do wonder why anyone still lives in Grizzly Falls.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this novel.

Some places earn their bad reputation through tall tales or chance. Grizzly Falls is different. Here, killers aren't just the stuff of legends and campfire lore. Someone is in the night-time shadows, watching the local teens play around in the moonlit woods. Waiting for the right moment, the right victim. Waiting to take away a life.

Detective Regan Pescoli is counting the days until her maternity leave. Exhausted and emotional, the last thing she needs is another suspected serial killer. Especially when her daughter, Bianca, is swept up in the media storm. When a reality show arrives in town, the chaos only makes it harder for Pescoli and her partner, Selena Alvarez, to distinguish rumor from truth.

Another body is found and another. And as the nightmare strikes closer to home, Pescoli races to find the terror lingering in the darkness, where there are too many places to hide and countless places to die
Though this book was somewhat buried in my TBR pile, I grabbed it because my recent reads were new authors to me and I was aching for something and someone familiar. This book is #7 in Lisa Jackson’s To Die series. While there were obvious references to things that had previously happened, (quite a few actually) this book was perfectly enjoyable being read as a standalone. I’m fairly certain I’ve read a couple of the previous ones, but they were awhile ago and had no bearing in me enjoying this book.
I give this story, 4 stars, I almost say 3 ½ but since I can’t do halfsies here, I rounded up. This book started slow. And felt just a bit scattered in the storyline. I crave the books that grab you from page one and pull you in so close that you can’t put the book down – where you wish you could devise a way to read while you’re in the shower. This won’t do that, but the story is steady, builds momentum throughout, and all loose endings are tied by the time you get to the end. It took some 40% of the book before I reached that point, but once I did, it was a page turner.
While I don’t love Pescoli, (I’m going to chalk by dislike of her to her pregnancy hormones hahaha, My husband always says I’m a mess while pregnant, maybe she is too lol)I loved her dynamic with her partner Alvarez and her husband Santana. Her daughter Bianca developed perfectly throughout the story and the storyline was unique. I look forward to the next installment!
Thank you so much to Netgalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. It’s been a pleasure!

How could I have never read a Lisa Jackson book before? Now that I have found her, I've got a lot of catching up to do. Can't wait!

Although this isn't the first book in the series, I felt that the author gave enough background info that I didn't feel lost as to who each character was. But now, I want to go back to the beginning of the series and see what I have missed.

This story was a real nail biter with so much suspense! Was the killer a human or a "Big Foot" in the woods of Montana? There were some terrifying scenes that had me glad I wasn't home alone.

I loved the personality of both of the main characters, Detectives Pescoli and Alvarez. I look forward to more thrilling reads about them, their work and their families.

Looking for a well written and suspense filled novel? This is one I'd highly recommend!

Expecting to die by Lisa Jackson.
A dead body is found by a young girl who's with her friends playing tag in the woods. She stumbles upon it after being chased by what she thinks is a beast. She calls the police who calls her mum who is a sheriff.
A very enjoyable read with great characters. I loved the story. Wasn't sure who it could be in had a few suspects. It wasn't who I thought it was. Highly recommended. 5*. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book from netgalley.
