Not up to the usual Disney standard. Certainly not as good as the Stitch manga
For some reason I have never been able to get through this movie. However, when given the comic book I couldn't stop reading it. It is such a cute story! The graphics in this are awesome and I almost wish there was another one!
I received this book through NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.
I've watched this movie more times than I can count, usually around either Halloween or Christmas, of course. I thought the manga was fun most of the way through, but lacked a few incidents that were included in the movie that might have been ideal to include in this manga presentation.
It's not a bad read for people that aren't already accustomed to the movie (if you can find one out there), and might even be enjoyable for those that love the movie like I do. I thought it was a decent read, and I gave it a high rating because, well, who doesn't love this movie?
Just perfect. I don't need to say anything other than that. Beautiful.
I honestly don't know why I wanted to read this. Probably the little 'mall goth' in me refusing to leave was curious. Either way it was something I probably shouldn't have done because it was a hot mess. Just rewatch the movie guys. This is 100% NOT. WORTH. IT.
I'm a really big fan of the movie, I think it's amazing and so original, and the best part is: it's great to watch around Halloween and Christmas time!
Something that makes this movie even better is the music, and I thought it was pretty cool that parts of some of the songs were included in this manga, it was a nice surprise.
I couldn't help but sing along while reading!
The story here follows pretty much the same plot of the movie. And the drawings are great and so cute! Sally is not my favorite character ever, but I'll admit she looked adorable.
A great read for the fans! :)
I love the movie but this story fell flat. It was dull and empty with no substance whatsoever.
Sophie’s seven-year-old son recently became obsessed with The Nightmare Before Christmas thanks to an in-game event on Disney Magic Kingdoms, which is why the two of them read the manga edition of the film adapted by Jun Asuka together over Christmas. Sophie wasn’t hugely impressed by the book, she’s not a manga reader nor a particularly big fan of the film itself (Zero the ghost dog notwithstanding) but her son did enjoy experiencing the story in a new format. He was surprised to learn that manga is read “backward” (i.e. from right to left), which he initially struggled with, but soon was reading without issue, and Sophie was happy to see him reading something in a brand new style.
Sophie did find herself impressed by the artwork in the book which really captured the look of the original film. For fans of the genre, this is a fantastic marriage between a visual medium and a film that excels in that stark, black and white style, but it wasn’t enough to win Sophie over and she doubts she’ll be picking up any more manga in the near-future.
This really didn't add anything to the movie. In fact, without the color, music, and sound, it was really missing a lot. The art was decent, but it would have really worked as a story board to the movie. Otherwise, they just took a bunch of the lines from the movie and filled in the balloons. They made an attempt to put some of the songs in as poetry, then left so much out it often didn't rhyme.
In fact, I don't know how well I would have been able to follow it if I hadn't been so familiar with the movie.
It really feels like a cheap, quick way to make some money off of the popularity of the film. Not recommended for fans, and definitely not recommended if you're not a fan.
Couldn't review this book properly, due to not seeing the entire text.
This was difficult for me because we as a family like The Nightmare before Christmas, so very much. We dress up as characters when we go to Disneyland, my daughter has the original book and movie. We went this past summer to the Hollywood Bowl to see the production by the people who were the voices of the movie which was fantastic. We have a 1950’s aluminum Christmas tree that this year is decorated with Nightmare ornaments, (could not up load a photo don’t know how everyone else does it) any way this book is only 24 pages the art was good, but the story line was not. I was disappointed. Which I was not expecting.
A must read for fans of the movie! Beautifully written!
Really good read and easy to follow story line.. love Tim burton .
