This was a fast paced thriller that I enjoyed very much. The plot was well crafted and suspenseful. The ending was not what I expected.
Many thanks to Thomas & Mercer and to NetGalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Her Last Tomorrow was published in paperback, audio and eBook formats most recently in June 2018 and I received a free eARC copy via NetGalley. This has in no way influenced my review.
Her Last Tomorrow is the first book I've read by Adam Croft and I enjoyed it. After all, how could you resist that tagline, huh? 'Could you murder your wife to save your daughter?' I absolutely flipping love it! Imagine being put in that situation, imagine being made to choose between your partner and your child. That's exactly what happens to Nick when, in his care, his 5-year-old daughter, Ellie, is taken. Snatched in broad daylight from the car whilst he dashes back into the house for something. Nick is assured she is safe and well and he can have her back. Providing he kills his wife, Tasha...
Tasha is a pretty unlikable character but that doesn't justify how easily Nick (who I liked to start with) comes to the decision that he is actually going to go through with the kidnapper's demands. He is going to kill his wife to ensure the safe return of his daughter. But then he starts to plot and plan Tasha's downfall only to realise it's not going to be as easy as he originally thought. The police detective investigating Ellie's kidnapping is also suspicious of Nick. Why has he been seen hanging around a notorious local pub patronised by local thugs when his young daughter is missing. Meanwhile, Tasha's world gradually falls apart and instead of the hard-nosed businesswoman, we start to see a much more emotional and human side to her. I still didn't like her though.
In fact, I don't think I liked any of the characters in this book but that's never really an issue for me. I'm not a reader who has to have a bond with a character to enjoy a novel. This, even for me (Mrs Slow-Reader), was a fairly quick read. I will say, however, that I found the plot and the writing a little simplistic at times. But it is what it is; a very commercial, entertaining read which has sold a shedload of copies and will continue to do so because it's good. If a little far fetched in places (hey, it's fiction!).
Would I recommend this book? Yes, I would if you're looking for a quick and easy, uncomplicated read to while away a few hours. I found it fascinating to see how my opinion of the characters changed as the story moved on. I just wish the story and the characters had a little more oomph to them. Overall I enjoyed Her Last Tomorrow and found it a short but entertaining read.
I chose to read and review an eARC of Her Last Tomorrow. The above review is my own unbiased opinion.
This was my first time reading Adam Croft, but definitely not the last. Great story with a lot of suspense. Easy to read, but hard to put down!
A great well written book. Highly recommend
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC in return for an honest review.
I enjoyed the format of this book with each chapter being told alternately from the perspective of Nick and Tasha. An enjoyable storyline that held my interest throughout and definitely kept me guessing until the end. Neither Nick or Tasha were particularly likeable and there were a few points throughout the book where I questioned Nicks thought process and wondered why on earth he would not just go to the police.
On the whole, it was a great read - 4 stars.
A good suspense read. What would anyone do in this situations? Your wife for your child. A good plot with an unexpected twist.
Thank you to the author and publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This is my first book by this author.
I must say, the premise of this book seemed extremely implausible to me. While I *can* imagine feeling so distraught at the kidnapping of my child that I would contemplate illegal acts of retribution, I can't imagine that I'd consider murder, especially under such hazy circumstances. I had a hard time connecting to the story, and to the choices made by the main character.
That said, I did enjoy the last 40% or so of the book. I appreciated the surprises that cropped up along the way, the faster pacing of the story, and the resolution. The ending wasn't perfect, but it was satisfying.
Thanks to netgalley for the opportunity to have read this book. It deals with the kidnapping of a child and also focusses on the aftermath of how the parents deal with the tension and situation. It just underlined the belief that we don’t really know each other........... Recommended.
A fantastic read which grips you from the first page.
Nick Connor’s daughter is kidnapped and the only way to get her back is by killing his wife. This premise alone makes this book interesting. This fast passed story kept me interested from chapter to chapter as I wanted to know what Nick would do. The story alternates chapters from Nick and Tasha, his wife’s, point of view. The twists and turns in this story brought me to an unexpected ending. I would most definitely recommend this book to thriller lovers.
Nick Connor's life is turning into a nightmare. . Someone has kidnapped his daughter, five year old Ellie and he is told the only way to get her back is to kill his wife. This book is a very exciting, suspenseful story. Could you murder your partner to save your child? Recommended.
OMG! This was an amazing story. The author takes you through some hard decisions and thoughts... making you wonder... what would you do if in his shoes? I loved this story sooo much!
Great story - could not wait to read this and it didn't disappoint.
Thanks for the chance to read this
Her Last Tomorrow by Adam Croft
I have already reviewed this but somehow I have had a lot of reviews disappear. This was a fast paced thriller about a man named Nick who has a five year old daughter that gets kidnapped. He is told he has to murder is wife if he wants his daughter back. This was a suspense driven novel that was a quick read. The writing flowed and I was taken on a ride of twists and turns. I didn't guess the ending so I enjoyed this book.
Thank you to Net Galley, Adam Croft and the Publisher for my copy.
Thank you NetGallery for the opportunity to read Her Last Tomorrow.
The question on who chooses to live - your child or your spouse is a difficult one. Great plot line, but I didn't engage with the lead character, found some it wordy, but still a worthwhile read.
Ok reading.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for supplying me with a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Having never read anything by Adam Croft before, I wasn't sure what to expect. The synopsis sounded like something which could have been written by Simon Kernick and certainly interested me.
On reading the book, I found that I absolutely detested the two main characters. They have a child who also sounds like a classic brat. I actually didn't really care anything about any of the characters. I was actually hoping they would all be killed off by the end. I'm almost certain this wasn't the writer's intention but it definitely gave the story a different spin for me!
I totally didn't see the ending. All the signs had been there but I was probably too busy wishing an early demise on Nick and Tasha that I didn't notice the big twist creeping up on me.
Fantastic book. I'm looking forward to reading more of Croft's work in the future.
We go back and forth between Nick and Tasha as the different p.o.v.'s It seems that we learn that Nick and Tasha do not have a good marriage and it shows through out the story.
When Nick is expected to take their daughter Ellie to school and she becomes missing it seems that Nick becomes the main suspect. He doesn't seem to handle being under stress to well and it really starts to show. When he gets the message to kill his wife so he can have his daughter again the question will remain will he even do it? Can he do it?
I did like going back and forth between the two main characters I got to see what each one was feeling or doing at a certain time.
I am not sure about the characters honestly because well Tasha seems very self centered and doesn't really care that her daughter gets up at the crack of dawn, just so she can see her for a few minutes. I am sorry but that is just crazy. It is mentioned to us that her parents were going to come down but yet were told not to because Ellie might be found. What grandparents do not come down I am certain that if one of my children was missing my mom would have been down here in a heart beat.
Nick I want to know what kind of person knows someone who knows a hit man? I mean that is just out there, I am sure it happens but Nick doesn't seem like that shady of a character. Now the dark web that is a good thing to write about as a person who reads a lot of crime books and what not I haven't read a lot of stories that have the dark web mentioned. I could see maybe the author elaborating on this a bit more.
When it came about who the kidnapper was it was someone I was not expecting this person it was well hidden. I could understand the reasoning behind this person not being mentioned in the beginning, but yet I felt that the way it all went down was too fast.
Also why in the heck would Nick wait to go home to call the police?
Overall it was a good story I felt it could use some more character building and backgrounds but I would read another book by this author.
I'm not really sure whether I liked this novel. The kidnapping plot was interesting enough and the identity of the kidnapper really surprised me, but the characters didn't really do it for me. Tash and Nick are both deeply flawed, which would be okay if they weren't this annoying and whiny. You don't really have anyone to root for and the few scenes we get with Ellie didn't really make a great impression. What really bothered me about this novel was the treatment of the female characters, they are all bitchy, psychotic, and even Tash, as one of the main characters doesn't really get any redeeming qualities. Even though Nick doesn't fare much better, the treatment of Tash really bugged me, especially the narratives insistence on how she is a bad mother for working full-time to provide for her family (which is something nobody focuses on if the father is the bread-winner).
Overall, the story is reasonably well done, but if you want a character you can root for, you should probably skip "Her Last Tomorrow".
This was an okay book, nothing special. Both Nick and Tasha were unlikeable characters in my opinion. The investigation into the kidnapping seemed unrealistic. I felt the ending was too abrupt.
A good book but not amazing. What do you do if you are promised your kidnapped daughter back in exchange for killing your wife?
