Molly is a single mother with a lot of guilt. She has an eight-year-old daughter who is suffering from psychic visions that torment her at night. The only problem is that these visions happen to Cassidy's friends and people she knows. Those visions coming true is almost worse than the four nights leading up to the events as Cassidy attempts to warn her friends of what will happen.
Cassidy's visions have always come true, and since these visions are of horrible accidents or injuries, not happy events, she understandably freaks out when she receives one that features her mother.
As a result, Molly takes her daughter on a mini vacation to her grandmother's house. In doing so, she revisits her past and is forced to face the demons of her past.
While I wanted to read on to know what happened, the story itself was not something I would ordinarily pick up. I tend to shy away from paranormal books, and this definitely had a paranormal theme with the psychic visions and whatnot. While it is well done, it's not quite what I was expecting. In other words, it isn't new agey with crystals and scrying and whatnot, but there is definitely a sense of the paranormal and the "gifts" that propel the plot, the plot is more about the character of Molly accepting who she is, accepting her past, and learning to embrace her daughter's newfound abilities.
While the final twist of the book was a bit surprising, it was not a big enough twist to leave me awed and awestruck. Instead, I was simply expecting something like it. There was nothing I could truly put my finger on that I didn't like, except that I didn't fall in love with the characters or the plot. I didn't necessarily care too much one way or the other how the characters ended up, and so I was left with a sense of "blah" at the end.
Overall, I enjoyed the book, but I was hoping to fall in love with it more than I did. Instead, I just felt it was rather forgettable.
Genre: women's fiction, paranormal
Rating: 3.5/5
I received a free copy from NetGalley for my honest opinion.
All The Breaking Waves by Kerry Lonsdale was a quick read thanks to the page turning story about Molly Brennan and her young daughter Cassie, who has inherited the family “gift” of seeing glimpses of the future. The only problem is that Cassie’s sightings are often scary, keeping her up for days until what she has predicted comes to pass.
Molly heads back to her grandmother’s house hoping “Nana Mary” can help since she has the same psychic abilities. But back at home, she is confronted by her past and must learn to come to terms with her own issues including a former love and guilt over a tragic accident.
When Cassie has a nightmare where she sees Molly dying, Molly knows she needs to get things in order in case Cassie’s vision comes true. But maybe she can do something to change the course of her life and Cassie’s too?
I read this book in record time because I wanted to see how everything would play out!
The blurb for this is not exactly true to the story= but it's a well done novel that's worth reading. There are some holes in Molly's history but her relationship with both Owen and her Nana is so strong that you'll put those aside. Cassie is well written, if occasionally a bit immature for her age. I enjoyed this so my quibbles are small- at least three times someone's stomach growled or grumbled, there's a lot of stew, and I honestly don't know how Molly supports Cassie on her income. That said it was a good read because Lonsdale is a good writer. THanks to netgalley for the ARC.

I enjoyed the supernatural elements of this story and the characters were realistic. The plot just didn't draw me in.
This book was just so so good. Kerry Lonsdale is one of my new favorite authors. I'm beyond ready for her third novel - itching for the summer to get here. All The Breaking Waves had a wonderful feel of mysticism in it, and a bit of a Sarah Addison Allen mood, both of which I loved whole-heartedly.
The characters were powerful and important, their relationships so well developed and written, and all of it just made me want to be there in the moment with them and what they were facing. I loved how Lonsdale created the environment perfectly and surprised us with certain aspects of what was happening - but I especially loved how connected the characters were - in their lives and in their minds. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in a phenomenal story of family, heart, connection and life.
Molly's 8-year-old daughter Cassie has inherited some of the unusual traits of her lineage. Cassie has precognition; she sees horrible things in the future and dreams it every night until it actually happens. Cassie would do anything to lift this burden from her daughter. Molly herself stifled her own abilities, but they weren't like this. When Cassie has a dream that MOLLY is the next to die, Molly has to face the possibility of her own death leaving Cassie alone--which she will not let happen. They take a trip back to what Cassie knew as home, and the support of others can keep Cassie -- and hopefully Molly--safe.
This book had me on the edge of my seat from the first sentence. What would you do if your children could see images of what the future holds but not have the information so you can try to alter the outcome? What would you do if your child sees you unable to breathe? Once I began this book, I did not want to put it down AT ALL! The story felt so real while reading that you feel as though you are along side Molly living in the fear of the future and for her daughter's safety.
As with "Everything We Keep", I could not put this book down till I finished it. I love Kerry Lonsdale's writing style, her words reel you in and keep you interested until the very last one. In "All the Breaking Waves", you immediately fall in love with Molly Brennan and her daughter Cassie, their struggles to get through life with their special abilities and Molly's love for her wonderful Nana, add into the mix their neighbour Owen and this is a story you will definitely want to read. At seventeen, Molly was off to College and nineteen year old Owen was going to voluntarily work abroad, they loved each other, they had since they were children and two years apart was not going to dim that love. Then tragedy struck and their relationship was no more. Fast forward 12 years and Molly returns home to the arms of her beloved Nana and who should be waiting for her but Owen. Can Molly overcome her fears for what may lay ahead or will she walk away and give up on true love. Another 5* winner. Look forward to "Everything We Left Behind" later in the year.
Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. (less)
Did not read this book. Will probably read it at a later time.
ALL THE BREAKING WAVES is the story of a mother and daughter, each coming to terms with their "supernatural" powers. Cassie is an eight-year-old who suffers from frightening premonitions in her dreams. Her mother, Molly, has denied her own gifts since she was a child but when Cassie has a premonition about Molly's death, Molly seeks help from her grandmother and first love and has to accept her own gifts to survive.. The book was enjoyable but the love story was formulaic and a little dull. Fans of Sarah Addison Allen might enjoy this book.
All the Breaking Waves was a fabulous story about a mother, daughter, and grandmother who would do anything for each other. The past with many secrets unravel as Molly goes back home to figure out how to survive after her daughter has a nightmare of a vision. Her sweetheart growing up is there waiting with open arms even though Molly broke it off without any explanation twelve years ago. Everyone tries to deal with their own insecurities and guilty conscience while trying to help each other to move forward.
I couldn't put the book down. Kerry Lonsdale knows how to hook you right at the beginning. It even had some unexpected twists. The characters were well developed and believable, and I adored her strong, nurturing daughter Cassie.
Thank you Kerry Lonsdale, Lake Union Publishing, and NetGalley for an advanced copy for an honest review.
Another author to add to my favorites list. This is her second book and even though I loved her debut book, Everything We Keep, I absolutely devoured this book in one day! I loved everything about this book! This author does a wonderful job bringing her characters to life and you can't help but fall in love with them. The story was so filled with suspense that I didn't dare stop reading because I HAD TO KNOW! Loved it -Highly recommend! !!!! Looking forward to the next book!
Wow makes the remake of bewitched look like classic lit-complete waste of time- if the author wants to write about the responsibilities of parenthood I suggest she spend the year reading and rereading the 2 short stories Lauren Groff published in the New Yorker in 2016-
I received this ARC from netgalley.com in exchange for a review.
"ALL THE BREAKING WAVES is a mystery suspense with strong twists of romantic, historical, and paranormal elements. A talented sea glass artist, Molly Brennan whose daughter, gifted with visions, predicts Molly’s death. Molly has five days to outwit fate or make the ultimate sacrifice any parent can make. The daughter’s premonitions come with dangerous side-effects."
The book was written well, it was a fairly quick read but I got bored with the story. For me, it was not as suspenseful as the book description lead me to believe.
