I received a free copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoy a good fairy tale retelling and this was definitely a good one. I wasn't too sure where this story was going to go when I started it, but I was curious enough to give it a chance because of the fairy tale aspect the title mentions. I was happy to find it really picked up before too long. Alienor is sweet, young, and a bit naive, without it being grating because she is also brave and probably a bit headstrong. Phillippe, I wouldn't say is a cruel husband, but definitely not a match for Alienor... queue Thomas and the ensuing story. This book actually has elements of more than one fairy tale and I thought they were dealt with in a very interesting and fresh way. I will definitely be looking in to the rest of the series!
A well-written tale of fierce women overcoming daunting situations. I truly enjoyed the burgeoning partnership between Alienor and Thomas. Sometimes it’s difficult to read action, so the climax seemed a bit abrupt. However, the overall story was captivating and a pleasure to see to its conclusion. I look forward to the next in the series.
I enjoyed this book. This is not your typical fairytale. There are elements of Sleeping Beauty and Snow White in this book. I enjoyed watching the growth of Alienor and Thomas, The plot of the book kept me intrigued and made this book hard to put down. The world building made me feel like I was there along side the characters. You could feel the emotion of the characters. Llewelyn was a great addition and I would like to know more about his past. A very enjoyable read.
This was described as a retelling of Sleeping Beauty. Hmm. Nobody was "sleeping" until the last quarter of the book. It has all the requisites for a fairytale romance: princess in need, loyal ladies-in-waiting, king, sworn knights, bad sorceress, battles, horse, the fate of kingdoms, etc. It was a nice story. Apparently, there are other books in this series that use different fairytales as the underlying theme. This story was good enough that I may seek out another in the series.
This just wasn't my cup of tea. I liked the description of the book, but when I started reading, it was like I was slogging along. I gave up.
The premise sounded quite interesting, but I didn't enjoy the execution as much as I thought that I would. So unfortunately this one is a pass from me, but I hope to see other things from the author in the future.
I wish that this book had made the top of the to-read list, however it wasn't the case. While entertaining, Enchanting the King wasn't a 'must read', but 'read-when-you-get-a-chance'. If you do get a chance to read it, it's a quick, briefly entertaining read.
