Highly entertaining and a good go to comfort read. These are the books I like to come home to after a long day at work. Easy to slip into and do not require a lot from the reader. Charley Davidson is fun and quirky and gives me what I need in an easy read!
Thank you to NetGalley, who supplied me with an ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Whoa. Okay. I know I go back and forth a bit with our girl Charley and the gang. It's campy and quirky and downright out there at times. But WHOA. In this installment, Ms. Jones goes *there*...and I mean, dang. There is no doubt in my mind that she is a masterful storyteller in any circumstance, but in Eleventh Grave in Moonlight, the heat was 'grab yourself a cool drink and sit in front of a fan' kind of hot.
I'm still a Reyes fan girl. I don't know how any can't be...especially after this book. *waggles eyebrows*
Cliffy...oh yeah, definitely knew it was coming. Still wasn't expecting it to fall out quite like it did. Nope, not going to give you any hints about what it was...read the book yourself. 4 stars.
I'm going to write this review as a "series" review because, quite frankly, I binge read the whole series THIRTEEN books in one week. I literally couldn't put them down. When I read the last page of the last book, I wanted to cry.
Book one hooks you from the start. The world that Darynda built within this series is phenomenally creative. It's full of magic and mystery. The hero is the perfect anti-hero turned true hero that I've read in a long, long time. My heart broke for the trials and tribulations the hero and heroine went through to get to the end of the series. Calling it an emotional rollercoaster doesn't even cover the vast span of emotions that the author drags the reader through.
The only complaint I have is that the series ended.... there was a "the end" and I didn't want to be done yet. A complete must read for all PNR lovers!
Another great book, plenty of twists I never saw coming. Always counting down to the next book release.
Still enjoy the humor; it does get a bit much at times, but still enjoy most of it. It does get a little scattered. Love the side cases and love the whole I'm a God/Reaper scenario. If you haven't read any of these books; definitely start at the beginning. I love Reyes and Charley; I would love for them to have more time together. I don't like when they keep things from each other; especially when there wouldn't be so many problems if they just told each other what the heck is going on. And come on! All someone needs is a taser and some drugs to take down someone who's all powerful; no way! Still don't like the Beep scenario. Overall, I really enjoy this series.
A re-read thanks to a promotion by Netgalley for the final Charley Davidson book. I love this series and so happy to have it in my e-reader instead of getting a loan from the library.
E-book/Urban Fantasy: To me, this was one of the better books in the series, so far, and boy, does it have a cliffhanger. I want to thank NetGalley for letting me have the whole series in lieu of an honest review. Except for the missing Rocket and Jessica, I liked the flow of this book. I do think that Jones has added way too many characters in the past few books. I have been reading them continuously while reading a book in-between and I cannot imagine being able to keep up all of Charley nuances & friends while reading them over nine years.
I can not get enough of Charley and her gang! Charley now has to come to terms with being a goddess and having her daughter be the savior of the world. There are still evil beings that are determined to have Charley banished forever. Will Charley be able to save herself from banishment and keep investigating Reyes past. This is a continuation of the series, and you MUST read the books in order. This book does end on a cliffhanger, but luckily, I do not have to wait to read the next book! I absolutely love Charley, Reyes, and everyone. Ms. Jones weaves a tale that not only keeps you captive, but keeps you coming back and begging for more!
Charley Davidson and the crew are back for more mayhem and shenanigans in the eleventh book in the series. I love how each book is a continuation of the overarching story with entertaining side-stories thrown in to keep things lively. The characters are realistic, the writing is fantastic, and the storylines are entertaining. I can't wait for the next book in the series!
I wasn't sure what to expect, but I enjoyed reading this. An interesting story with fun characters. Well written.
I have been following this series since the very beginning, and each and every installment continues to amaze and astound me. It continues to be funny, smart and sexy with a lot mystery and the paranormal all mixed into a fun and exciting plot.
I can't go into too much detail about the plot because it's the eleventh book in a series, but it follows our main character Charley, who is a part time private investigator and full-time Grim Reaper, as she tries to balance her role in the future of the world, and the role of her daughter and son-of-Satan husband. Oh yes, Reyes is the son of the actual devil and he is hot as sin (excuse the pun).
There are so many great and hilarious side characters in these stories as well, but as a main character, Charley steals the show. She has the best attitude with so many witty comments and snide remarks, you'll definitely be laughing out loud several times.
I highly, highly recommend these books. There are a lot, but it's worth it because Darynda Jones' writing is superior and the plot is intricately weaved through and each and every installment. The cliffhanger endings always leave you wanting to pick the up the next one!
Eleventh Grave in Moonlight is the next Charley Davidson book by Darynda Jones. You do need to have read the previous books in the series at this point, since the characters and backstory are getting to be very important and complicated.
A typical day in the life of Charley Davidson involves cheating husbands, missing people, errant wives, philandering business owners, and oh yeah...demons, hell hounds, evil gods, and dead people. Lots and lots of dead people. As a part time Private Investigator and full-time Grim Reaper, Charley has to balance the good, the bad, the undead, and those who want her dead. In this eleventh installment, Charley is learning to make peace with the fact that she is a goddess with all kinds of power and that her own daughter has been born to save the world from total destruction. But the forces of hell are determined to see Charley banished forever to the darkest corners of another dimension. With the son of Satan himself as her husband and world-rocking lover, maybe Charley can find a way to have her happily ever after after all.
Eleventh Grave in Moonlight is a solid continuation of Charley's story. I feel like the story is starting to get a little out of Charley's control and things are getting increasingly hard for her to stay on top of everything. Her friends and family all have their own issues going on, and no one (including Charley) seems inclined to share their individual worries and issues. Just like in real life, trying to handle everything yourself or shield others from problems tends to lead to bigger issues and complications. Charley tries to keep up the humor and flippant manner that has worked for her so well in the past, but even that seems to be falling out of her control. However, things are coming together, and I can see a conclusion on the horizon.
If you have read this far, you are going to want and need to finish off this series. You are almost there and I think the ride is well worth it.
This review is deliberately going to be short because after THAT ENDING I have to go and start the next book as fast as humanly possible. This is where Charley's superpowers would come in handy but sadly I'm not a god.
In this book we see Charley investigating the couple who stole Reyes as a baby from his birth parents and gave him to the monster Earl Walker. It turns out that Reyes isn't the only child they stole, something that Charley has suspected for a while now but has only just set out to prove. Reyes isn't happy that she's digging into his past again but this time she's been hired by another one of their victims so she can't turn away from someone else who needs her help.
There are plenty of other things going on in this instalment too, there is still a god from Usen on the loose and hunting for Beep, Amber has picked up a crazy stalker who is sending her messages that no thirteen year old girl should ever have to read, Ubie is acting like a madman and has Cookie convinced he's having an affair and Reyes is determined to make Charley learn more about her abilities even if it means throwing her off the top of very tall buildings and hoping she figures things out before she hits the bottom.
The ending though, THAT ENDING!! It really has left me desperate to find out what happens next and I'm so ridiculously glad that I don't have to wait for book twelve to be published. That cliffhanger would probably have killed me if I didn't already have the next book on hand!
Eleventh Grave in Moonlight is a great addition to the series. You still have all the drama and suspense that carries over from the previous story. It has a nice flow. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review after reading this arc.
Wow all I can say is wow! That ending! I couldn’t wait and immediately started the next book before I wrote this review! Charley learns more about her powers and learns how to do certain things. In the end, she makes a huge mistake! Just wow! Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to review this book!
This series is always in high demand at my library. The characters Daryna Jones uses are delightful and my readers love getting to know them more each book. Fabulous series!
It seems like Jones has some, but not quite all, of her earlier groove back with the eleventh book in the Charley Davidson series. The humor is back, but not quite the same now the Charley's a little more self-informed. Meanwhile, she's trying to figure out why her Uncle Ubie is so cranky and determined to lock her up in her house (or jail), why Cookie's daughter Amber is being stalked, and just exactly what's going on with the Fosters, who abducted her husband Reyes as a child. Some of the overarching god story takes a little bit of a backseat in this story, which I'm grateful for, because it seems like it continues to get more fantastical with each novel. This book is better than some of the middle books, but not quite as good as some of the earlier books in my opinion.
I am sad that the series is almost over because I have very much enjoyed it so far.
This book is just as good as the previous ones and yes I just couldn't put it down.
I love the writing and the characters so much.
I highly recommend the entire series.
Snark abounds, the humor is awesome. That is the only good thing I can say, regarding this book. These stories have become so far “out there”. I have finished this one, because I can’t imagine how these are going to end and make any sense. I love Charley and her group of characters, but the story line keeps growing and now, it is just out of control. Have to finish, cannot imagine the ending. On to the next.
Darynda Jones is masterful at managing the balance of genres. It's completely addicting and keeps getting better and better. But man oh man that cliffhanger threatens to kill me!
