Mattie and her husband are approaching their 50th wedding anniversary. Unfortunately Maddie is also fighting ALS and has not got long to live. The two are joined by Rose, their caregiver and her young daughter. All three are ready to succumb to despair when they find a woman’s hope chest from years before. The items in the hope chest,an embroidered apron, a Christmas ornament and a doll all connect in someway with each of the three characters and make them realize that the life that they have left is one that is worth living. Readers will need a box of tissues with the story.
