Cinderella-esque fairytale with a Miami flair...
This was a first-time read of this author and I was excited for that first peak, not knowing at all what was in store. And, happily, Maria, Ritchie and Joey had a lot to share…
Maria was the guardian to her younger brother and things weren’t going well. As Joey got older, it became much harder to keep him on the straight and narrow. She had two jobs to work and little time to do anything but try to keep it all together. Unfortunately, things were coming to a turning point. Ritchie was a lawyer, who (like Maria) held family and faith close. Meeting while they were volunteering, opened each other up to possibilities they hadn’t expected…
My feelings about their story were as complicated as the decisions that led them to the choices they made. Ritchie’s character seemed honest and up front about trying to help, I just wish he’d gone about it with a bit more humility. He seemed to know all the answers, for Maria and Joey, but didn’t bring a lot of credibility with him. He was a lawyer, so obviously smart, but he needed a better “bed-side manner” and a whole lot less arrogance for me to hop on #teamritchie. Maria had my sympathy for sure. She was in a no-win situation and treading water trying to keep Joey from making any more mistakes.
If I had my misgivings in the process that didn’t stop me from enjoying the conclusion. I’m always up for a happily ever after!
I liked that this author drew out the realization of a relationship between Maria and Ritchie. I like the extra point in the story where Ritchie had been the prosecutor who hurt Maria's family. This was a new author for me and I'm glad I had the chance to read her work.
This book was just okay for me. At times I felt certain things dragged on, but other times it felt like time passed by too fast (Thanksgiving in one chapter and Christmas in the next). I think I needed to read more about their day to day interaction, where they slowly got to know each other rather than jump in time.
Overall not bad....I think it just needed more.
A pretty good romance, The Millionaire's Convenient Arrangement isn't your conventional, insta-love romance. I felt like there was a slow build up and there were some obvious obstacles in the path, but that just added to the story. The hero was a bit...rude and an ass at times but quickly turned around, especially with the type of heroin that was portrayed in this romance.
I like how this book was written and the plot was appealing to me for sure. I like the build up and the romance and sex was quite delicious. I would be keeping an eye out for other books by Jane Peden that is for sure.
The Millionaire's Convenient Arrangement gets a GREAT BIG FOUR SHOOTING STARS! Its sigh-worthy, it will make you frown and yet have a great ending. A pretty good story all in all if you ask me.
