It was okay. Cute hockey player tutor interactions. I was able to finish the book and like it for what it is.
I will never say no to the Jock/Tutor trope. This book gives you exactly that, but wasn't my favorite. The sexy scenes were great... I mean they were really really good. The writing was also great.
I struggled with a lot of the themes such as the hero, Jake, only paying attention to the heroine, Claire, after she gave herself a complete makeover. I know new adult isn't always the most realistic (i still love my tropes no matter what), but this aspect fell flat for me. I also thought the plot and romantic development wasn't the best. I didn't always find myself being able to believe that they really love each other. Her quality of writing was great, but the everything progressed wasn't my favorite.
Regardless, i liked this book and will read more by this author. I'm excited to see what else she puts out as she develops more.
I requested this one back in the day as I had every intention of reading it. However, its been years and I still haven't gotten around to it and while I feel guilty at not reviewing a book I think that I need to admit to myself that I won't be reading this one anytime soon....if at all.
It’s nothing different that I e read before but the writing was good and so were the characters and the ending
This is a college romance with all the self-involved, insensitive, don't give a crap attitude of young adults. The characters are judgy and biased as most kids are at this age. They follow trends and opinions prevalent amongst their peers and think that is the be all and end all of their college centered universes. So you can understand the psychology behind Jack and Claire's behaviors as well as those around them.
Jack behaves a bit like a douche until he realizes there is a lot more to Claire and the same goes for Claire when she realizes that there is a nice guy buried under all that swagger. Alas, peer pressure being the b*tch that she is, gets in the way, upsetting that balance that they find. But we all want HEAs and thank God for them because I think I'd be really depressed if I had to read book after book like this and not have people rise above and do the right thing.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley for voluntary review consideration.
A great college romance, a little predictable within the story but nonetheless an enjoyable read, Hot jock meets quiet studious beauty both out to disprove the stereotypes. No real drama or angst
An enjoyable read

I just couldn't do it. I found the characters to be too immature to relate to.

This is the first book that I have ever read from Tia Lewis, and I think it is also her debut novel. While I was excited after reading the blurb, I have to admit that it is always a bit scary to read a book by an unknown author. While I didn't dislike the story, I didn't love it either. It was just okay, and didn't really have anything new or different that wowed me.
Jake is the football star that knows he is all that on the field and in bed, so when his coach tells him that he needs a tutor for his grades he is anything but excited. But when he meets Claire, he is surprised to find someone who is encouraging and doesn't treat him like he is stupid despite the reason that she is there in the first place. Claire hates football players, but needs the money so she agrees to tutor Jake. She quickly realizes that the attraction is more than she can fight though, and as much as she hopes he is different, she hopes that he doesn't leave her with a broken heart.
I will admit that a lot of my issues with this book were the characters. They were downright irritating at times, and were some of the most judgmental characters I have ever experienced. It wasn't just a few either, it was all of them! The stuff that they said or thought had me cringing my way through most of this story, and it really made it impossible for me to like them or ever feel invested in their story. They were so mean and hard on each other that I just wasn't into it at all. Not only that, but I struggled to actually feel the connection between them. Jake doesn't want Claire in the beginning and I felt like he never really made much effort. He didn't fight for her or ever really seem to want her even after the beginning. I also hated that while there was technically no cheating, there was an incident that happened that might as well have been. It didn't sit right with me, and it was hard to get over when added on top of everything else.
There was a lot of potential here, and I think that Tia Lewis could be a great writer. Unfortunately this book had too much for me to get over, so it just never quite got there for me. I wasn't feeling the love or connection and the characters pretty much killed the story for me. If you like manwhore stories or NA sports romance books, you might give this one a shot. For me it just fell short of the potential and wasn't a story that I could get behind.
Claire is a smart cookie, a nerd in her way. With more curves than she is willing to show, her perfect GPA is her ticket to a good law school. That's if she can work on campus this semester to make ends meet. Jake Jennings lives for football. It is his talent, his ticket out of a miserable childhood, but he won't live it unless he improves his grades. So a tutor is coach's solution. "Improve or you're out of the team." Claire hates football and players. She learned her lesson in high school, still fate played a sick game and made her story repeat itself. Or did it? Butting heads is what Jake and Claire do best, until they discover that they aren't that different from each other. Falling for Jake wouldn't be hard. Beneath the strong Center player, was a smart and sweet man who could be anything he wanted to. But could Claire let go of the past in order to share a future with the man of her dreams? Tia Lewis' Draw Play is a very sexy read, with a hot football player who is so much more than a jock, and a rubenesque, sassy, pre-law force of nature who is willing to show him how great he can be if he only applies himself.
