Megan is sister to Beck from Getting Lucky Number Seven (Book#1 in the series). She's now 18 and graduated early from high school, getting her GED in order to get away from her aunt who's been raising her since their parents death.
Megan has a list of accomplishments/goals, she's looking to achieve. Among them are finding real friends as those back home have only gossiped about her family, and finding a real boyfriend. Not the kind who sleeps with her and then tells all his friends about it.
The first guy she meets at a quad party is Dane, one of her brother's teammates. But he never says anything about being on the Hockey team, and though Megan has been to a couple of her brothers' games in the past, she doesn't recognize Dane.
They spend the night getting to know each other and their commonalities, like that they are both insomniacs. They share a sweet, spark filled kiss, only for Dane to realize Megan is Megan Davenport. The girl who's off limits to all of Beck's teammates.
But these two can't stay away from each other. Not only are they drawn together by the team and friends, and spending time in each other's presence, but they are both able to relax and even sleep when they are together.
Over time, they find it hard to keep their relationship secret and they will have to deal with Beck when everything comes out in the open.
Sweet story. I am liking the series more and more as I read. Though sometimes the girls needy antics make me a little crazy.
I received a free copy through NetGalley in exchange for an honest and unbiased review/opinion.
4.5 stars — While I originally did get this one from NetGalley, I procrastinated on it so long, I actually bought my own copy…
I loved this one so much because I loved both characters. Dane was everything I was hoping for, damaged but also funny, sweet, and caring…and suffering from a little bit of stupid (not academically, but decision-making-wise). He also suffered from “deciding he knows what’s best for others and making decisions for them”-itis, not just with Megan but with others as well. And normally that doesn’t really work for me, but it fit with who his character was, and the past that shaped him. I was a bit disappointed that we didn’t get some closure with his family…I think that’s one area where all the books in this series are a little weak. They introduce background stories, but they don’t give resolution to them. I’m a reader that likes to know it all and gain closure in all things.
Megan was so my kind of girl. She was insecure, but trying to be more confident and accepting of herself. I could identify with her, right down to her love of math (though I went into Comp Sci and not Engineering, there is a rivalry). She had her own struggles, between trying to convince herself that she could settle for less, and trying to live up (or rather down) to those expectations. She actually made me groan sometimes, b/c it was so obvious that she was fooling herself and that things were obviously not going to work out as she’d wanted them to. In some ways she was being just like the stereotype of girls who claim one thing and do another, but when you see the strength of her connection with Dane, it feels different somehow. I ached for her, and her doubts, and just how freaking adorable she was.
I LOVED that while Megan struggled with her insecurities, and her progress might have been slow at times, I could understand that some of that came with age and experience. And she truly did wobble her way towards becoming a stronger person on her own, and I loved watching her develop other strong relationships (her friendships with Lyla, Whitney and to my surprise Vanessa!).
The killer for this one was the two of them together. They had SOOOOO much chemistry, and I’m not just talking the steamy kind (though hooweee, right from the first kiss). But more important than all that, I felt their friendship chemistry! The way they interacted with each other, they just lit me up and gave me tummy butterflies.
While this isn’t the last book in the series, I read them out of order so it’s *my* last book. One thing I love about this series is that it features 4 very smart heroines, but not the same kind of smart. Yay brains!! They were all very different heroines, but they were all inspiring in their own right. I wouldn’t have minded if the heroes had had some better academics, or it was clearer how they ended up balancing school with sport (especially given how both Hudson and Dane struggled)…but at least we end on a high with smarty-pants Ryder (in the next book).
So yeah. Another thoroughly entertaining book in this series, and it just made me want to go back and reread Confessions to finish things off.
Really enjoyed this unique story. Will be reading more from this author for sure
While I will say that I found the majority of this NA romance to be a fun and adorable read, it did have a few drawbacks that let me down a tad. Some of the way phrases were worded, although likely typical for college kids these days, just annoyed the crap out of me. "for reals" But the worst of it though was that Dane needs to just get over his ex. That situation influences his decisions to a near irritating level for me. But other than that, I felt like these two were really well matched. They have plenty in common, and you could definitely see the spark between them. And don't even get me started on those sexy scenes, because the heat between these two is off the charts right from the start. Overall, despite the few drawbacks I do think that readers will enjoy this book, and I have to admit that I did too.
I loved Lucky Number 7 so much, I think it is hard to follow up that book in this series, at least for me !
I love sister/ brother best friend book, so that was a plus for me. Dane was too much in his own head to realize that he has something great in front of him the entire time. The book was still cute read.
Great story. Thanks for letting me read this in advance
A well written third book in a sports romance series. Not having read the first two books in the series did not deter my enjoyment of the story. Though predictable in many aspects, it was still well written with engaging characters and a dialog that provided a smooth transition between the characters, moving the story along at a fair clip...before I knew it, I was at the end.
This book was provided by the Publisher and Netgalley, I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
Starting over with all the doubts and fears of failure always makes for a good read, but this do-over is so much better! Dane and Megan aren't just the starter buttons for each other, they are the spark plugs that make the connections in life work. I loved the novelty of characters that deal with sleep deprivation. The all night diner scenes were amazing!
This was my first book I read in this series and I didn't finish this it. When I started, I was instantly pulled in by the fun voice of the characters and the intriguing premise that they have their sleepless nights in common. I wanted to know about Dane's family and his past. Unfortunately, it slowed way down for me once it came out that Megan is Beck's sister and he couldn't date her.
Rosalie's review:
Megan Davenport wants to start over fresh in college, and even has a list that she looks at daily to keep her on track. Knowing she needs to make something of her life, be productive, and maybe find a good boyfriend to boot that loves her for her would be an amazing plus. But where in THE WORLD would a guy like that be?!
Dane, after getting knocked in the head by a dart, then in the eye with a paper football, has found out that maybe Megan might be the girl that helps him get his mind off his crazy heartbreak and past, and be the exact girl of his dreams. Until he finds out that her brother is the Beckett Davenport that is on his hockey team and COMPLETELY off limits. But oh how being off limits makes something more desirable, especially after that first through the roof, shoot for the stars, flip you on your head kiss…..,.
I LOVED this read! This book was a take you back to college and relive the amazing angst that leads to wonderful romance kind of read. The ups and downs, fighting through what you are being told is right, but following how you feel…ho hum. I loved how the two shared common interests that really connected them from the beginning. It really made the readers vie for a HEA for these two. Something that not many people suffer from, but these meet and share that connection immediately; it really helped make their future something to fight for, not matter what. This one turned the read upside before righting it back up and leaving the reader on Cloud 9! Can’t wait for more in the series!! Cindi Madsen has QUICKLY sucked me into hockey!
I adored this book. Cindi Madsen is one of my favorite Entangled authors and I love her hockey heroes.
I was very curious about Megan from the beginning when she was introduced in Beck's book which is the first of this series.
Of course when your team captains little sister is off limits you no your in a world of trouble after you kiss her and find after the fact.
I loved that they built a friendship first and then they started letting feelings get in the way.
I loved how they both were insomniac and had their own place they went too.
My only complaint is that they might have took everything a little too slow. I mean I loved that they did take things slow, but then again I wished they would have moved a little bit faster too.
