I have found that when it comes to finding information regarding deliverance and deliverance ministry it can be really either hit or miss. There is a lot of information out there, but not all of it is biblically sound. I was naturally skeptical when I set about to read this book because of that. I believe that Larry Richards has hit it out of the park with The Essential Guide to Deliverance.

I felt like Mr. Richards put out the information in a clear and transparent way that came across to me as honest. It adds value and trust when the author says this is what we know and this is what we just don’t know. He offers the scriptural backing for what he is presenting and he gives his own personal insight into situations that will no doubt come in handy for those wanting to know more about or operate in deliverance ministry.

Honestly, there was only one place in the book that I felt like I had to disagree which was when he was discussing exorcism and how to instruct a demon to communicate with the deliverance minister. He mentioned one option being to instruct the demon to respond to you in your own mind. That does not resonate with my spirit at all and I feel like that would be an unwise practice. At the same time, I will be completely honest and say that I have never been involved in an exorcism and have never seen deliverance ministry in operation. This was the only area I felt a real catch in my spirit about the teaching in this book.

All in all, I really enjoyed this book. I feel like I walked away from it with sound biblical teaching on deliverance. I also feel confident that should a situation arise in the future where deliverance comes into play I will be better equipped to handle it because of Larry Richards’ book.

I highly recommend The Essential Guide to Deliverance for your personal and church libraries.
