This series is great fun. I look forward to the next one to see what happens with Stuart and Irene and of course dear Bertie. I was startled at the ending. I expected the story to keep going. I was delighted to learn a new word, defenestration. And it was used often enough to actually be fully set in my vocabulary!

For fans of Bertie in McCall Smith's earlier books, this is a must-read; young Bertie continues to develop his independence in his family and to philosophize beyond his years.

Fans of this series will no doubt love this book while people who have not read previous books in the series might well be scratching their heads wondering what all the fuss is about.
The book is rather slow-moving with scarcity of plot and an abundance of character studies along with a healthy dose of Scottish history.
This book is not for everyone; but it's worth the read if only for the author's wonderful musings on life.

Although I would perhaps--and perhaps not--have chosen a different ending for the latest in Alexander McCall Smith's 44 Scotland Street series-- The Bertie Project, I thoroughly enjoyed it! Bertie is such an endearing character, And Alexander McCall Smith's writing is a joy to read. Besides creating characters that one cares about, as well as portraying a slice of life in Edinburgh for those of us not lucky enough to live there, he manages to deftly and with wit speak about myriad topics in modern society. McCall Smith has a gentle and erudite way of writing and this latest in the series was a wonderful addition. Thank you Penguin Random House for the ARC and for allowing me to review the latest in this delightful series!

Like coming home to a good friend! All of Alexander McCall Smith's series become dear friends over the years and the 44 Scotland Street series is no exception.
I highly recommend everything ever written by Alexander McCall Smith!

I fell in love with Alexander McCall Smith's work through his No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency and ever since then I have tried to read everything I can by him. He writes books that are full of stories that are just a pure joy to read and I am so glad I got to read a review of his latest! It lives up to his standards and my expectations. If you love a good, cozy, heartfelt and funny read than this is a good choice.
