This was a bit of an uneven reading experience. At its core it's is about how the trauma of violence ripples and perhaps is intensified by isolation by way of abusive relationships, war torn Kosovo, and unfriendly Finland. However, along the way we get some true self-loathing and some truly odd elements like the Cat and the Snake which seemed like part of a different book-one more hewn to magical realism than the rest of this one.
