Description
Finally! Stress Relief for First-Time Derby Kids and Family
New book takes the anxiety out of Pinewood Derby, and focuses on the fun of working together
(LANCASTER, PA) Millions of Scouts participate in the Pinewood Derby each year. It's become a wildly anticipated event, with families spending countless hours, and lots of cash to build a winning car. With so much pressure to place in the top, it's no wonder that beginners experience a lot of anxiety preparing for their inaugural race, when the whole concept of the activity is to promote creativity and healthy competition.
Fortunately for stressed-out first-timers there's a new guide to building a good car that keeps the spirit of the derby top of mind, Getting Started in Pinewood Derby (Fox Chapel Publishing, November 1, 2011). Written by an active Scouting dad, the handy little book provides everything a novice needs to construct a racer that will get down the track and make you proud.
Even readers without woodworking experience will learn how to get it done with ease, while enjoying the experience with their child. They will learn how to cut the body, attach the axels and wheels, properly weight the car, and give it a nice paint job. Best of all, the book makes sure readers laugh, learn and discover the joy of teamwork. And in the end, isn't that what everyone in the derby really wants?
(For those who still contend it's about first-prize, there's a book for you, too. Look for Pinewood Derby Designs & Patterns)
