I found this book very relatable. It's a very powerful book, full of truth and meaning. Reading this book makes me want to work harder on loving myself.
I really liked this book. It is powerful, yet calming. I see myself in so much of the writings. I am not one to love myself, but maybe, one day, I will and this book helped me towards the realization that I need to.
I really enjoyed I Love My Love. I’m a huge love freak so the subject matter of this collection was right up my street. I loved how personal the poems were, to the extent some were uncomfortable, as if by reading the collection I was being given a sneak peak of the poet’s inner world; their thoughts and feelings, hopes and fears. The poems in I Love My Love deal with a universal theme – love – but are much more complex than a casual glance would suggest. Many of the poems were like private, intimate little loves notes from the poets to family members and lovers. The images used throughout I Love My Love are beautiful and powerful. I’d highly recommend this collection.
Holy shit. This was such a powerful book with such beautiful poems and such an important message. Absolutely loved it.
It's difficult to rate this book, because some poems I couldn't connect with but there were others I adored. So I'm not focusing on the former ones but the laters, which are powerful and encourage you to embrace who you are, recognise your worth, and LOVE YOURSELF before you love someone else. Self-love is crucial, and this is the message that makes this poetry collection such an empowering one.
I absolutely loved this book! I've been reading quite a bit of poetry lately but this book is definitely one of my favorites because I found myself relating to so much of it. The "Love Notes" are also wonderful because they're simple, beautiful, and so powerful because they hold so much meaning. Will definitely be buying a hard copy for myself as well as for others.
A moving and powerful collection of poetry about love. A lovely read.
Beautiful and powerful. Some poems were really emotional. I loved it!
This collection was immensely beautiful - raw in a powerful way. There is beauty in stripping down to your bare and there is responsibility in doing so for the sake of others well being and healing. As she says in the preface, "I will touch you in places none of your ex lovers ever could have" - and that is the way of poetry. Biddy knows this and masters it, drawing together lost pieces of you as she tells her story.
Meaningful poetry with a message that moves the reader. I'm not a fan of poems which don't have lyrical beauty, but I'll make an exception here because of the content. Recommended for people who have ever been hurt and who need to be pushed into self-love.
I was really excited when I first stumbled across this book but in all honesty, I ended feeling a bit underwhelmed by it. This really was just a very hit or miss book for me; there were some poems I absolutely loved, while there were others that I just couldn't really connect with, whether it be because of the content or the overall format. But that is not to say that Reyna Biddy is a bad writer, or that I didn't love the themes within the poems, and the message that the author was trying to convey. It was raw. It was unapologetic. It was messy. It was heartbreaking. but ultimately, it was very real & empowering. Reyna certainly did not hold back, & I admire her for that. I also loved that this collection focused on love, and how complex it can be in all its different forms.
This really was a very emotional and expressive book, written by a very passionate and strong woman, but unfortunately it just really wasn't my cup of tea. However, I do think that Reyna really is a talented writer & I would certainly be open to reading more of her work in the future!
