What a delightful book - I loved all the comments by Mademoiselle Sophie - she is an instructor from the get-go. the patterns are interesting enough that a proficient knitter won't be bored, and easy enough for the beginning knitter. Instructions were clear. I liked this book.
I am a knitter and I have been getting the urge to knit lately but I don't know what. I've made a few afghans over the years and looked to this book for inspiration.
The book starts with an introduction about the materials needed. Then there are knitting lessons with diagrams on casting on and binding off stitches, knitting and purling, stockinette and garter stitches, ribbing, increasing and decreasing stitches, etc.
There are patterns for 18 throws and blankets ... some are ideal for a beginner while others are more complicated for the more experienced knitters (they are coded according to their complexity). The throws and blankets are presented with full colour pictures and have names like Color Block, Checkerboard, Tweed, Sweet Ballerina and Neon Cat.
It's a very nice book!
I love Mademoiselle Sophie knitting books. They are perfect for beginning knitters with precise instructions, what stitches will be used in the pattern and pictures that relate to the project. This particular book concentrates on afghans and and small blankets. Some nice patterns and range from quick projects to longer time frames. Great for the hard to buy for knitter in you family.
This is a great book for not just new knitters but seasoned ones also. There are 18 patterns here and a nice variety of styles using different yarns.
With an introduction that gives knitting lessons that include diagrams on the basic knitting stitches making this a great little reference book. While this is the ebook format I downloaded it to my iPad so I could view it in color.
Thanks to the publisher for an advanced copy (via netgalley).
Knit Blankets and Throws with Mademoiselle Sophie is an excellent choice for beginning knitters, but also contains enough variety to appeal to intermediate knitters as well. Mlle. Sophie has chosen 18 patterns, teamed with beautiful photographs and luscious yarns which will be sure to inspire gift-giving. "Knit Blankets and Throws" begins with basic knitting lessons that include casting on, increases and decreases, chart reading, and blocking. Each pattern includes a skill level with abbreviations that are well explained, and suggestions for yarn. A recommended choice, and an especially handy resource for the ever -needed baby blanket gift.
Lovely patterns. I'm trying to decide which throw to knit for my living room.
The patterns in this book very in difficulty level and offer you a good selection of different styles of knitting to try, including some basic cables, lace work, color work and even some patterns that are just good old garter stitch. There really is a little something for knitters at every level of skill.
I also feel like the step by step diagrams at the beginning of the book make this a book that a beginner knitter could grow with, over time learning more difficult steps.
This is a good beginners book. I didn't see anything that made me say"Wow!", but for someone who is taking their first foray into a big project, this book is a great choice for them. Definitely a book that should be in a public library, and one that might even work in a children's library. If there's someone available to help now and then, these patterns would be quite accessable to a child who is learning to knit.
As someone who is always looking for a new pattern to tackle, I especially loved discovering new blanket and throw patterns that I could incorporate into my home decor.
