This is a must-have for aspiring crochet designers. From yarn specifications through sizing, construction, and finishing, this is a comprehensive guide. Think of this book as instructions for writing good instructions. Beginning with scarves, this book works up to progressively more complex projects, giving the reader an inside look at the entire design process.
Nice variety of designs featured. The instructions are complete and the photography for troubleshooting possible problems that arise is helpful.
This is a very resourceful and handy book for those who are looking to take up this as a hobby. I really found it quite nice to read and easy to understand. I personally would recommend this book to my friends and i think everyone should get a copy take a read and you may find you actually are interesting in taking this up as a hobby or a past time. Congratulations to the author for writing such an awesome book which can ultimately be beneficial for consumers who read it. I am sure that they will not be disappointed.
Much needed book,. Clear instructions, pictures are great and encourage the reader to pick up a hook!
I spin, dye, knit, crochet etc. and was so pleased to see that the choice of fibre is addressed at the start. It really can make or break the project. This is unusual in a crochet book so to read it early on I felt like this is a good start.
Swatching, blocking, choosing the yarn then how to work to a formula, it moves on from here to really interesting projects with all the information needed to start and complete projects, how to calculate yardage required. design your own and really become creative with crochet.
I would buy this book for presents , I really want to encourage more friends to crochet and not just knit!
There is a gap that can be filled by this lovely book. So pleased to have been allowed by NetGalley and the publisher to read and review it.
This is a great read for a beginner or intermediate crocheter.
Along with the offered patterns is information handy for their use as well as being useful for other projects. For example; the uses for different yarns, measuring for your project, and blocking.
I was able to use the information to adjust the pattern for a larger item, I had no idea how to go about that before. I found the book to be very useful and recommend it as a must read for anyone learning as it upped my game.
I think this is a great choice for anyone wanting to get in to desgning your own crochet patterns. I really like all the work sheets provided in the text.
In Design your Own Crochet Projects, Delaney provides the tools to make your projects less surprising experiments and more well-researched and repeatable designs. I have never been adventurous enough to branch out into the art of designing my own patterns. This book is actually a confidence builder for a person like me. The instructions are clear and the templates the author supplies are very useful (and welcome), also she gives permission to copy them for personal use.
Wonderful book! It teaches you how to read a pattern, how to choose yarn and what a swatch is.
You'll find formulas and advice on how to combine techniques in order to create great accessories. You'll learn about fibers and formulas to design your own patterns from scratch.
It also gives you some basic patters to have as a base, for scarfs, mittens, gloves, socks, etc.
I initially thought I would never put in the ground work described in this book for any of my new projects. I’m the type of person that would pick up a ball of yarn and just get on with it, creating through trial and error. However, through reading this I can see that a lot of time will be saved with some planning, and I suspect the planning will go quicker with time too. Easy descriptions of the steps you will need to take (though they might seem daunting at first) and inspirational patterns. Great book for anyone who wants to create their own project!
