This is one of the best books I have read from Tarah Scott and that is saying something...she writes really good highland books!!! This is the first book in the"MacLean Highlander " series. I found it to be a stand alone book, so don't worry if you are reading them out of order. This book made me laugh, cry and just fall in love with both characters!! The hero is Lord Erroll Rushton is both a highlander and a Englishmen. He is torn between to worlds. Our heroine is Miss Eve Crenshaw who has been compromised when Lord Erroll broke into her room at night. Eve is refusing to marry him due to the fact she wants a marriage of love. This sets off the story of our hero trying to bring Eve to agree to marry him.

This novel was a good read. The story contains romance, action, and adventure.
Miss Eve Crenshaw was ruined years ago. She now only desires to marry for love.
Lord Erroll Rushton is a rake and has been accused for ruining Eve's sister, Grace. Errol finds the family on their way to see his father and he enters Eve's room. Even pulls a gun to him. Erroll and Eve cause others to hear them and they are caught in a compromising position. Grace is very upset since she wants to marry Erroll. I found Grace to be a selfish and vain individual.
It is decided Eve and Erroll will marry. However, Eve does not want to marry Erroll and Erroll does not want to marry Grace. Eve designs a plan to get Erroll to Gretna so he can marry Grace. However, things do not go according to plan and Eve is kidnapped. Erroll goes after Eve and protects her honor from her kidnapper. Eve's reputation has been completely ruined and she will have to marry. They then travel to his estate and encounter other adventures and some action. Eve and Erroll batter often enough as well.
Eve begins to fall in love with Erroll, but cannot completely get past all the women and that he would leave her in Scotland to continue his pursuits. However, Erroll begins to change and wants a relationship with Eve. Will Eve and Erroll make it to the alter or will Erroll and Eve each marry someone else? Will Erroll be able to give up his rakish ways?

When I started reading this book I was a bit irritated because everything sounded very familiar. Well, it was. The book was first published in 2014 - and I really enjoyed reading it. And once I knew why it sounded so familiar I enjoyed reading it again.

It is a charming (and sometimes a bit frustrating, although in a positive sense) story with interesting characters, well written and very entertaining. I giggled and laughed, I rolled my eyes and sometimes I even got a bit worried. Of course I never gave up hope that true love and so on but...well, it is always good to know that true love really wins, isn't it?

Eve Crenshaw is an amazing character and Lord Rushton, let's just say, he grew on me and I must admit that I could understand that he was a bit upset at the beginning after everything Grace had done.
Of course, on the whole there was a lot of kidnapping going on...and on...and on...but in the end everybody ended up exactly where he was supposed to be so all is well that ends well, right?
I loved how Eve slowly learned to trust her rake and I loved that, well, let's just say that Rush didn't make THAT mistake.

As I already said - I really enjoyed reading this book and I can definitely recommend it.

I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review. Enjoyed the book but at times it was hard to keep straight who was doing what with whom. This book had more little side stories in it than most I have read lately. It was an interesting book and did eventually have the HEA ending. Most historicals have an epilogue that shows how they have settled into their news lives together but this book seemed to just end and left me wanting a little more. Overall it is a good read.

A man torn between two worlds. Both need him… neither wants him.

My Thoughts:
This was not my first time reading a Tara Scott book and it will not be the last. Although I found myself getting confused at times this read was overall a good one.
Whispered accusations of a compromised lady lead our hero to breaking into what he believes is that same lady's room at an inn. His mistake is that this is the older sister who has herself been previously ruined and consequently sleeps with a pistol under her pillow.
She has vowed never to marry if said union is not for love.
Enter the younger sister who concocted the rumors that began this whole mess and her mother who obviously had a hand in the treachery and deception.
Will these two actually find their happily ever after and if they do will it be with each other?
This is the beginning of a wonderful if sometimes confusing romp. I both loved and totally disliked both our hero and our heroine at different times in this story.
It is mostly a well written story with amusing and well developed characters although the ending is rather abrupt. Since this is book #1 of the new series maybe we find out more about this pair in a subsequent title,
I hope for more information on this couple and maybe connecting characters in the next installment.
I gave this book 4 of 5 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 3 of 5 flames.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley to read.
This in no way affected my opinion of this book which I have reviewed voluntarily.

A good read. Liked the heroes struggle between the world's of being a highland and an English man. I also enjoyed Eve's struggle to marry for love and not just because she had been compromised.

As always, this is an honest review in exchange for an ARC. This is a wonderfully long read. Unfortunately, I read it while others in the house were trying to watch tv or sleep. This was unfortunate because I couldn't stop giggling! What a tangled and hilarious tale this is. So much spirit and love and really complex characters. I enjoyed EVERY minute of this story. Definitely buy this for your own.

Love the basics of this story, would love to see a series from this book. There are too many unanswered questions, or hanging threads if you will. If I could have given it 3 and one half stars I would have. Absolutely loved the romnance between the h&h. I recommend as a light read. It could have been a great book, poor editing. Should have been a book two next, to explain the unresolved issues. Thanks.

I actually read this book about two years ago, but recently received an ARC for an honest review and re-read it. I had enjoyed it before, and did so again. I liked the H and h very much, and enjoyed them together as a couple. I read all the other Highlander books written by this author after reading this, I enjoyed it so much. I can't see any major changes to the story. The chemistry between the characters is great and I'm glad there wasn't a major delay in their communication and HEA. I become irritated when miscommunication results in couples not finding happiness. Great happy ending, though I'd like an epilogue!

I cannot even say how much I adored this book! This was my first by the author and I really loved it!

It was complex, lighthearted, dark, funny, chaotic, and sexy! I know some people said it was ridiculous but I thought a lot of the situations were a product of poor/silly choices in the triangle that exists-life can be crazy and ridiculous!!! I loved Eve (even though I wish she valued herself a little more) and Erroll (the rake that he was). I did not have any love for Eve's sister Grace- who got them all into the mess by lying about a garden rendezvous with Erroll. The messy situations they end up in just continue to get worse and worse throughout the book leaving readers to wonder who which sister will he choose? This book has everything from the ton, angry mistresses, gun wielding English woman to Scots in kilts!

If you are looking for a complex and sexy read definitely check this book out!!!

I found "To Tame a Highland Earl" to be written quite well. Good solid historical romance.

This book started off so strongly that it pains me to give it three stars, but in the end it was just too all over the place and repetitive to earn any higher.

To start off on the positive, I absolutely adored Eve. She was head-strong and completely knew her own mind. I loved how she slept with a gun under her pillow and was not only willing, but able to use it. Such strong female characters are rare. I also enjoyed watching her and Rushton go from enemies, to tentative friends to something more.

Unfortunately, that is where my enjoyment of this story ended. Eve's sister Grace was a right pain in the bum. She was conniving, and a liar, and generally her personality of "I WANT HIM HE IS MINE" grated on my nerves to no end. Even after he told her (and Eve) that he would not marry her, Grace persisted down that path. It was tiring.

Then there was all the kidnapping, and other underhanded story-lines that just started to run amok. It made it hard to pay attention to what was really going on in the story, and lead to me wanting to skip passages just to find out how it was going to end.

Overall, this story may still appeal to readers who like historical romances, and I would give this author another chance.

DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.

This was a hot read!!! I loved how strong Eve Crenshaw was to protect herself and refuse a marriage that she did not think was for her. I really thought Eve and Eroll made a better match that him and Grace. I hoped that Grace would marry Stanhope but have a feeling she fell for the young man that couldnt keep his eyes off her when his father thought Eve was missing. Maybe that will be book 2

I must say this is a buy buy buy book. At first , I was a little leery of what it would be, However, I laughed, I got irritated at stubborn people and just plain enjoyed the entire book. I was definitely captivated by the characters and the tale. It flowed and the pace was great. It is a highly enjoyable good read! This author is definitely talented in spinning a tale by words that keeps her reader wanting more. So definitely buy the book and enjoy!

TO TAME A HIGHLAND EARL is book one in Tarah Scott's MacLean Highlander series. I love unconventional first meetings between a hero and heroine, and Lord Erroll Rushton meets Miss Eve Crenshaw is a most unusual way. Having a rake annoyed because he thinks some young woman maligned his reputation is highly amusing, and having a woman get the drop on him when he sneaks into her room is priceless. This first encounter sets the stage for all other dealings between Lord Rushton and Eve.

I love the irony of Erroll trying to get out of an impending wedding, and ending up trapping himself in an engagement to a woman who is not interested -- in marriage or him. I like that Eve never allows herself to be cowed by Erroll, and that he ends up respecting her for that independent spirit that also drives him crazy. The physical attraction between Eve and Lord Rushton is intense, but their other feelings for each other are in a constant state of flux. Eve's mind fascinates Erroll and keeps drawing him back to her time after time, in spite of his misgivings. While Erroll develops a respect for Eve, it takes her a bit longer for her to appreciate Erroll's finer qualities. Erroll has to work for Eve's favor, and it surprises him how much he wants to put in the effort. The sexual tension, verbal sparring, and erotic clinches make this a compelling story.

The quantity and varied quality of the supporting characters, ready to help or hinder Erroll and Eve's relationship, lends this story a slightly Shakespearean quality. Erroll and Eve both have to contend with meddling fathers and Eve's designing younger sister Grace, but Erroll also has determined amorous exes to fight off. It's interesting to see what almost succeeds in driving this hero and heroine apart, and what draws them closer together. Lord Rushton's evolution over the course of the book is a big part of what makes TO TAME A HIGHLAND EARL such an arresting read for me.

TO TAME A HIGHLAND EARL is a fiery romance between two dynamic personalities and their perilous courtship. Lord Somerset really caught my interest in TO TAME A HIGHLAND EARL, but unless Grace does some heavy-duty introspection and makes some changes, I'd like to see him wind up with somebody else. I look forward to reading Tarah Scott's next book.

I enjoyed this story very much, but not completely in Love. It did however, keep my attention throughout

This was not a love triangle, but a love square. Wow. There was never a dull moment during the story. There was always something happening to throw things. And a few surprises.

This was chaos at its finest. It was really all over the place. I did like Eve, she was a strong heroine, she slept with a gun, and used it. I did however hate her sister, Grace, what an obnoxious individual, god I just wanted to reach in the book and slap her. But it goes to show you that the author did a good job there in portraying her part, that you actually despise her. I enjoyed Eve's interactions with Rushton, they were enemies, to barely friends, to then lovers. But, again, stupid Grace, ruined the majority of story, with kidnapping, underhandedness, come on now get a grip. It was also amusing in some parts, so give it a chance.

My first impression of Lord Erroll Rushton certainly did not put him in a favorable light, folks. He is an unrepentant womanizer who doesn’t believe in marriage and eventually gets himself into trouble by prejudicial circumstances. You set yourself up to be associated a certain way, buddy, don’t be surprised when you are accused of earning that reputation and its consequences. Ironically, he has to set out to defend his own honor against a woman he has never met who has accused him of dishonoring her, even though he’s been a womanizing scoundrel for years.

Sound complicated? Well, it becomes even moreso as more sub-characters, twists and turns, and a “stands up for herself” heroine is added to the mix. Let’s just say, Erroll erred greatly when he picked the wrong eve to enter Eve, the heroine’s, hotel bedroom. This English lass sleeps with a pistol under her pillow, folks, and she knows how to use it.

Though I was intrigued enough to keep reading, it definitely started to feel rather drawn out. Confirmation of this is the fact the main couple are not really a couple until about 70% into it and aren’t fully intimate until around 80%. Up to that point, there is a lot of back and forth regarding who will be forced to marry whom and under what circumstances.

You see, there is another woman involved in this storyline, and her name is Grace. I certainly had no love for her, as she was the heroine’s annoying, younger, calculating, self-absorbed sister. In fact, I would have loved to have seen her reduced to rags and working as a scullery maid in some lowly tavern. I can’t help but feel she doesn’t deserve the life she thinks she can manipulate others into handing over to her. Don’t even get me started on how she was supposedly more beautiful than Grace and didn’t hesitate to rub that narcissistic opinion in Eve’s face. At least Erroll would not tolerate liars and regularly reminded Grace she was precisely that so he would never want her for a bride.

Eve, the heroine, along with Oscar, her loyal, self-appointed bodyguard and Mr. Somerset, a man who has repeatedly asked for Eve’s hand in marriage, did earn my respect. Though Eve wasn’t a stranger to a few knucklehead moments of her own. At least I felt she had enough gumption and self-respect not to let a man push her around. Not after her last boyfriend gone bad drama, that is. Yeah, this girl has learned a life lesson, and she doesn’t plan to forget it.

To put it simply, this is one complicated mess, my fellow romance book loving friends. It was intriguing enough to keep reading, but I definitely needed things to finally wrap up. I found it difficult at times to root for the hero to get a HEA. I applaud Eve for trying to be steadfast in not putting up with being pushed into marrying without love. It was refreshing how she stood up to Erroll and put him in his place time and time again.

It took time for Erroll to earn his way into my literary good graces, which I’m not completely sure he totally did. You see, even at 80% he is admitting to himself he hadn’t really planned to give up OW even after he is married. At least it ended on a positive note with him acknowledging he did in fact want Eve as a his wife and couldn’t imagine life without her. Here’s to hoping he’ll stick to those guns in sequels, because Eve may just have to once again bring out hers to defend her honor.

Title: To Tame a Highland Earl, Series: MacLean Highlander (Book 1), Author: Tarah Scott, Pages: 306, stand-alone but part of a series, loyal heroine who wants to marry for love, former manho hero who doesn’t want to marry, caught up in manipulative trap, attempted rape scene, some violence, kidnapping, doesn’t admit feelings until the very end.

I adored the premise of the story, and the chemistry is hot hot hot, but the book had far too many sub-plots and twists and turns that made it difficult to follow. It's a comedy of errors that just had too much going on. I adore Eve and Errol (although Eve's sister Grace and Eve's suitor is irritating as all). There are no slow parts, and the romance development from curiosity to lust to love is very well-done, but I could NOT keep Errol's family straight. Granted, Scottish families are big, but it just proved to be a bit much for me. Overall, I will be checking out more of her books.

A case of mistaken identity sets the tone for this novel. Having read many of Tarah Scott's books and having e moved all of them, I can say this is not my favorite, but is near the top. I prefer a read that keeps the reader guessing what will happen next. There is quite a bit happening next. From the case of mistaken identity to several kidnappings gone awry to the characters misunderstanding about each other, this is a fairly fast paced reading, one of those you want to keep reading to see what comes next. It all makes for a very enjoyable, worthwhile read. I do hope Ms. Scott plans more storylines using the MacLean family, there is a lot of potential material.
