The Sneezy Wheezy Day

The Sneezy Wheezy Day is part of the Cougar Cub Tales series, which are charming stories of a brother and sister cub and their antics. In The Sneezy Wheezy Day, brother cub becomes ill, and they go about the forest seeking help from their friends. From balancing a ball on his nose, to shaving his head, brother cub tries all the suggestions his friends are quick to offer, but to no avail. Finally, it is the love of his sister that brings him around and makes him well.

This story is delightfully told in an appealing rhyme that is easy to for moms and dads to read to their little ones. Additionally, beginning readers will enjoy this story, though there are some more challenging words for a beginning reader. Finally, the illustrations are bright and eye-catching. I had to pause often before turning the page because my daughter was busy scanning the pictures (there is a bonus creature on each page – make a game of finding it).

Most of all, I love the message it contains – the power of love. It can open up discussions with your child about the importance of loving their brothers and sisters, and how we need to care for one another. I know my kids quarrel about the tiniest things, but this story shows them Sister Cougar’s tiny actions – just caring for her brother – made him feel 100% better.

I give it five stars, and would recommend adopting the entire cub series. Look for The Sneezy Wheezy Day in the beginning of 2012, but until then, visit the Cougar Cubs website and check out the other available titles in the series, I’m Just Like You, and Lost and Alone.
