Description
You'll find exclusive excerpts of seven beach-worthy titles due for publication during the month of July in this sampler—after our extensive preview of well over 100 new books of interest coming to market in the month ahead. At the end of most excerpts, you will find a link to the full galley on NetGalley!
Then turn to new fiction from bestselling authors. Thrillers dominate our excerpts this month, with The Last Hack, the new Jack Parlabane thriller from one of the smartest minds in crime fiction, Christopher Brookmyre as well as literary thriller Fierce Kingdom by Barnes & Noble Discover Award-winner Gin Phillips. Riley Sager’s debut, Final Girls, is a gripping psychological thriller.
The Life She Was Given by Ellen Wiseman, while not a thriller, is an intense novel about the devastating power of family secrets—beginning in the poignant, lurid world of a Depression-era traveling circus and coming full circle in the transformative 1950s. On the lighter side is Rachel Khong’s funny, touching debut Goodbye, Vitamin.
Our nonfiction excerpt is In Vino Duplicitas: The Rise and Fall of a Wine Forger Extraordinaire. Journalist Peter Hellman details the notorious, legendary Rudy Kurniawan, a 20-something Indonesian immigrant who burst onto the rarified scene of ultrafine wines in 2002 and then crashed and burned.
Rounding out the sampler is a young adult sci-fi/fantasy, Dream Me by Kathyrn Berla.

I really love these buzz books samplers!! I cannot wait for Final Girls. If this excerpt is any indication, it is a must-read. Looking forward to reading the finished versions of these books.
I just love this resource! It's great to be able to see everything new coming out, read a few excerpts of notable books, and access and request some of those titles with just a click of a button all in one place. Fantastic! Definitely my must-read monthly!
Another collection of exciting upcoming titles from both established and fresh emerging talent. I look forward to these offerings from Publishers Lunch to get a sneak peek at excerpts found nowhere else! I'm especially excited about Goodbye, Vitamin by Rachel Khong, and The Life She Was Given by Ellen Marie Wiseman.
It looks like July is going to be filled with some amazing books! I am looking forward to featuring several of these book on my blog.
As always, a choice selection of books covered this month. I can tell how good the selection is because I have read two of the books on the list and I loved both of them so much. Chris Brookmyre's book is just fabulous and the Final Girls is a stunning psychological thriller oozing creepiness and menace. Appreciate the selection of books and the books that I have not read sound absolutely terrific.
Always love reading through these samplers! Great selections!
There are so many reasons to look forward to summer...vacation, warm weather...and reading! So much choice in this buzz preview. Get started everyone and enjoy your summer reads.
An interesting selection - 'Final Girls' looks especially intriguing!
FINAL GIRLS was a real edge-of-your-seater, and I'm looking forward to THE LIFE SHE WAS GIVEN as well.
I just discovered the Buzz Books Monthly recently. It's wonderful. I get to read a little bit more than just the description of a book.
Again, some interesting titles this month. I've already read The Last Hack (published in the UK under the title Want You Gone). I loved it. I like Chris Brookmyre's books, especially the Jack Parlabane ones. This one is pretty topical and plenty of twists. A very entertaining read but once you start reading it you might find yourself wanting to check your online security.
Now that I've read the excerpt from Goodbye, Vitamin, I want to read more. I'll probably end up buying this one. I think it would be quite quirky and amusing but with a serious undercurrent.
I really liked the July Buzz Books monthly, because through reading the excerpts of the books I found some that I look forward to read
I get this every month for the publishing calendar - I always find a must-read book I somehow missed. Love it!
Great selection of books. I love that the upcoming books are listed by week. It really makes it so much easier for me to add to my calendar and to put on my blog. I'm looking forward to many of them. Can't wait for July!
Another great listing of books and authors. Thanks for this monthly publication.
I really enjoyed reading this. There's something for everyone and I found two that really interested me enough to request and read the full length book. These are a great idea!
I love these sneak peeks at upcoming books! My particular favorite featured in this book was Fierce Kingdom, although others caught my eye as well.. Keep up the great work Publishers Lunch!
The July Buzz Books monthly promised some beach worthy reads, though I would say most of these were thrillers with several exceptions -- I'm not a fan of reading thrillers in a public place like a beach, but I can't hold that against them! They had very promising starts. Highlights of this month's selections include Fierce Kingdom, which I have been wanting to read for months now... as well as The Last Hack. I was also excited for the inclusion of the young adult sci-fi / fantasy offering Dream Me.
Another strong sampler from Buzz Books!
Amazing excerpts like Dream Me by Kathryn Berla and Fierce Kingdom by Gin Phillips. This edition has me wanting to drop everything and go read.
I love the previews of upcoming books so much! This particular issue had SEVERAL books that I r4eally want to read and couple that I want to read now, after I read about them listed here! Thank you for the chance to preview so many books before publication!!!!
Once again, I downloaded and read the latest edition of Buzz Books Monthly the minute I saw it was available. Why? Why wouldn't you? July is a big release month for summer books, and I was dying to know what new releases I'd somehow not yet heard of, and which in my pile I should jump into first. Buzz Books Monthly never steers me wrong!
Thanks so much for the opportunity to get a sneak peek at upcoming publications and request full galleys from Netgalley.com.
I always love when these Buzz Books come available. It's an awesome way to be exposed to books you normally wouldn't reach for. It takes you out of your comfort zone. You get to read a few chapters of a book to see if you are going to like it or not. The best part is there is usually a link at the end of each one to click on to request! Brilliant!!
Such an awesome way to find great reads!! Thank you NetGalley.
Helpful to select new books. This is for professionals, so I'm uncertain if review is appropriate.
It's very helpful to be able to see the titles that will be released in the next month, besides it's also super exciting!, as always a great guide for reading lovers
I often can't believe another month has gone by as I have yet more books to read and review. BUZZ BOOKS really helps to highlight and outline choices for the coming month(s). This July version is filled with thrillers and contains several excerpts which should give fans of that genre plenty to consider! I am engrossed in the excerpt of Rachel Khong's debut work titled GOODBYE, VITAMIN, about caring for a parent with Alzheimer's. I am also eagerly anticipating READING WITH PATRICK by Michelle Kuo and am looking forward to forthcoming works by more well-known authors like: Elizabeth Berg, Paul Farmer, Al Gore and, yes, even Bill Nye.
Buzz Books samplers are one of the most useful tools I have as a librarian to get a sneak peek at if a book is worth reading or ordering. Thank you so much for providing these!
What an amazing resource! I absolutely LOVE being able to go beyond a general book description with the samplers, and I can't wait for Final Girls!
Really nice resource, thanks! I really enjoyed the excerpts of the new books. It is nice to get a feel of the authors writing style before requesting a book. I found 2 that I really hope to read!
A great way to discover new authors. I've already ordered one book based on a sample chapter included in the Buzz collection.
Goodbye Vitamin is one of the loveliest books I have reviewed this year. I was more than happy to get a sneak peek. I haven't been able to review The Life She Has Been Given but I'm curious and really want to read it. I enjoy these monthly releases, it gives readers a chance to get a teaser.
Yes, I love seeing these lists of new releases every month. My want to read list isn't thrilled with me though.
I am in love with Buzz Books monthly. Not only do you get to read exclusive excerpts, there are also details about a ton of other books be published the same month. This made it easy to make a list of books that I want to check out. I really enjoyed reading the excerpts and found some new authors to look out for.
I absolutely love these book buzz previews. Helps to preview what is coming and quickens my pulse as I look forward to some of my anticipated reads. Keep them coming!
What’s not to love about Buzz Books? I only discovered them this year and do I wish I could go back in time and access prior year editions. Well, yes I do! I read the Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer editions and then saw that monthly editions would now be available. So I said to myself while jumping up and down for joy, who could ask for anything more! This is by far the best way to get a sampling of new books, new authors and even new genres that I probably, foolishly, skipped over before. I just finished reading Fierce Kingdom by Gin Phillips which made my TBR list thanks to this edition of Buzz Books. A great story that I thoroughly enjoyed. Run don’t walk across the internet to get ahold of Buzz Books! I don’t think you could possibly be disappointed.
Thanks to Publishers Lunch and NetGalley for this edition of Buzz Books in exchange for an honest review.
Great sampler, thanks for the opportunity to see what's coming up.
