This read was quite enjoyable and satisfying, blending romance and suspense. I loved the solid writing style and the characters.
As with the previous book in this “Wounded SEAL trilogy” by Mitzi Pool Brides, the characterization of both main and secondary characters is well written and you get a myriad of people with diversified and defined personalities.
The hero, Dirk Browning, is this adorable dimpled wounded warrior, who is both an Alpha with strong protective instincts and a Beta who only wants to cherish and please his “lovely lady”.
Unlike what’s usual with this kind of characters, Dirk is not a tortured hero, he’s a rather well-adapted private investigator and dog trainer. He has some past and hurtful issues but overcomes them by reflection and analysis. There’s also no drama about his life-altering injury – and this sentence by itself says what could be lacking somehow just a little bit in the book. I felt often that it was too easy to deal with; and the author often tells instead of showing it.
I also liked the heroine, Skylar Chapman - careful, guarded, insecure, tending to sell herself short, but yet a competent professional and a woman with a quiet, steady and solid personality.
One thing that I really appreciated is the absence of the usual nonsensical misunderstandings and lack of communication between hero and heroine that some authors resort to in order to propel the story forward. What we have in “Wounded at Home” is two people falling for each other in a rather convincing and realistic manner.
Great cover art by Kim Mendonza as in “Wounded at the Lake” – they’re both beautiful!

This is Book 2 in the Wounded Seal Trilogy. We meet Skylar as she’s walking into the county jail where prisoners are held until trial. Her sister, Dory, has been arrested for the murder of her husband and also for supposedly stealing $10 million dollars from his employer. Skylar has agreed to find out who really did it. She meets Dirk after seeing a sign for a guard dog for sale as she’s running away from the bad guys. This is a great story that has mystery, adventure, murder and a woman who has to overcome the thought that all men are not womanizers. Can she be as strong with her heart as she is with her head? This is a great story and I really enjoyed it. Also couldn’t solve the mystery of who really murdered Dory’s husband and stole the money until very close to the end of the book. I voluntarily read and reviewed a copy that I received from Netgalley.

This is the second book in this series that I read but I admit I was hesitant to pick it up as I did not like the first one. Thankfully this one was SO much better than the first one for me so I definitely don't regret my decision to read this!!

This was the true thriller that I was waiting for in the first book. We have Sky who works at a bank but her entire life changes when her sister is arrested for the murder of her husband. Sky's mission becomes one that the police won't take seriously: to find out who really murdered her sister's husband. By sheer luck she ends up meeting Dirk who agrees to help her through his PI company.

I loved the interaction between Dirk and Sky; how they both fought the attraction that was there and how they slowly began to get to know each other. I loved the who did it aspect that left you guessing until the end.

The part I didn't like? Believe it or not was the end. If felt very rushed to me, almost as if the author had hit a certain number of pages and decided to just end the story. It felt too sudden.
