Description

Love curses don’t exist. At least that’s what Jonas, master of the meaningless hookup, tells himself when a letter warns him he’s an Eros Guardian cursed to endure a test of true love or forever be alone. His levelheaded longtime friend Cora figures it’s a revenge prank by an ex. The way Jonas stamps each girlfriend with a weeklong use-by date, it serves him right.

But when an impulsive kiss between the two friends reveals potential for more, Cora becomes the target of the Groth Maar: demons sent to wipe out the Eros Guardian line. And suddenly the curse becomes dangerously real.

Breaking the curse means Jonas’s biggest challenge yet. Failure guarantees Cora’s death. But success may cost him his own life...and the loss of his carefully guarded heart to the one girl far too sensible to fall for him.

“The Third Kiss” is an interesting (but predictable) YA romance that centers around a curse. As it says in the description, we learn that Jonas is an Eros Guardian and has three chances at love (signaled by kisses) to find someone to be with him forever. As you can imagine, the third kiss is the one that will matter. Cora has just returned to Australia from Manhattan, where she lived with her mother for the last year after her parents’ divorce. She is eager to return to her BFFs, Beth and Jonas, who are twins. However, she is also a bit nervous because the last time she saw Jonas, she made the mistake of kissing him.

Jonas is not a good choice, because he is constantly hooking up and leaving girls- a teenaged playboy. His life was changed when his parents both died in a car accident years before. They had an intense kind of love, and Jonas decided that was what left him and his twin sister alone all those years before. We learn pretty quickly that both Jonas and Cora are attracted to each other, but neither of them wants to enter into a relationship. However, learning more about the Eros Guardian and curse Jonas’s family has carried makes the possibility of their relationship impossible to ignore. And as events develop, Cora is put in danger because of her relationship (or not) with Jonas.

There is a lot of mystery and intrigue early on which really makes the book fascinating. I was quickly drawn in to Jonas and Cora’s story and enjoyed the alternating viewpoints. I found it a little predictable overall (including the “twist” towards the end), but it was a cute story and well written. The book sets itself up for a sequel, and I definitely want to see how it is continued there. The historical/biblical context (without being religious) was also intriguing, and I really appreciated how much history was given to the curse and all the loose ends tied up about where it comes from and why no one knew about it, etc. The author did a really great job making sure there weren’t plot holes! Overall, it’s a cute story with a dash of mystery and destiny to add to the playboy-turned-exclusive/friends-to-lovers romance styles.

Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher through netgalley. All opinions are my own.

The Third Kiss is beautifully crafted and perfectly executed. This book had me guessing all the way through.

Love cures are long gone with the once upon time stories. Jonas is celebrating his birthday when he receives a strange voodoo type letter. It can't have meaning, can it? After a string of bad luck with the ladies, Jonas is rethinking the letter. With a little help from his friends, he wants to work out what is going on.

Cora is back in town. Last time she was here she accidentally kissed the boy next door. She must sort out the mess left by the aftermath.

This is a sweet teen read, but with a twist. It has the geek meets jock romance and a fantasy quest twist. I really enjoyed this book. It came together perfectly, and I can't wait for the next instalment.

4.5 stars out of 5. *ARC received in exchange for a fair review*

I'd like to start off by thanking Netgalley, Entangled Teen, and Chapter by Chapter for giving me the opportunity to read this awesome book! I had been a little wary about participating in the blog tour only because I've been big on contemporaries without the fantasy aspect of other stories.

However, I fell pretty hard for this one! Mrs. Colmer writes beautifully and her writing just clicked for me. I'm really hoping that there will be a follow up since this ended with the possibility for a second story. However, given who that will most likely be about, I'm hoping that she'll also explore the new relationship between Cora and Jonas.

I'm a complete sucker for these soulmate type storylines being the hopeless romantic that I am. But, this wasn't one of those straight forward ones where the guy and girl kiss and automatically fall in love. They both had their own guards up but despite that, found each other in the end. I hope one day I'll be lucky enough to find a Jonas of my own.

When I read the premise for this book, I immediately requested. I already love books with romance in them so the idea of love curses just made me even more interested.

The writing in this book is so creative, vibrant and compelling. I found myself trying to squeeze reading time during work just cause I needed to know what happened next. The plot is engaging, hilarious, suspenseful and so much fun. I was really fascinated with the mythology part of the story and enjoyed reading about it.

The romance is so swoony and cute. Cora and Jonas are just too adorable together. They’re friends first and foremost so it’s endearing to watch them work out their feelings for each other. Their chemistry is sweet and I definitely felt that push and pull between them.

Cora is a such great heroine. She’s not without faults and she frustrated me a bit, but I admired her independent attitude. I loved that she’s smart, strong, determined, and brave. Jonas is quite the charmer being who he is – an Eros Guardian. He’s a player with a tragic past – the ridiculously hot “bad boy" you can’t resist and want to save. You’ll feel for him. You’ll root for him. You’ll want him to be happy and the whole nine yards. His twin sister, Beth, is quite the character! She’s confident, straightforward, ridiculously feisty and probably my favorite. Leo is the wild card -- he's new in town and mysterious so he certainly made the story more exciting.

The Third Kiss by Kat Colmer is such wonderful debut novel. It’s unique, intriguing and beautifully written. The characters are lovable and relatable. The drama, romance, mystery, plot twists, and the humor made this story wickedly awesome. I was captivated from start to finish. And that ending?! Soooo crazy!! I absolutely can't wait to get my hands on the sequel.

Review will be posted on my blog, Amazon.com, BN, Instagram, Twitter, and Litsy closer to the release.
