I've not read all the books in the Decorah Security Series, but enough to know that this was an exceptional book. I could actually see it in my mind as the story unfolded in the book. The details were there. I like Sci-fi type books, so this was right up my alley.
Olivia knows her boss is a bit of a creep but as a recent Fine Arts graduate, jobs are not thick on the ground. If she ever wants her own antiques business she may just have to suck it up. But staying late one night to update inventory on a new shipment, her computer fails yet again. Calling in reinforcements in the shape of hottie tech nerd Luke is no real hardship though.
Luke hates lying to Olivia. He may be a tech nerd but he is also a Decorah agent. They know something hinky is going on with Olivia's employer and they are just waiting for evidence so they can pounce.
When some heavies turn up to take something from the shipment, Luke is thankful he was there to get Olivia to safety. But now he has a whole lot of other problems..of the his body has been taken over by an ancient warrior type! He didn't plan on falling for Olivia. But now that Zabastian has taken up residence inside him, he can't battle the warrior and his feelings for Olivia too.
I really loved Olivia and Luke, they are perfect for each other. I loved how they kept trying to get one over on Zabastian, bamboozling him with modern things to keep his warrior in check. Zabastian had VERY chauvinistic tendencies, which grated a bit with Luke's way more relaxed attitudes.
Fab read!
I don't know how I haven't run into Rebecca York before now. I'm a big fan of paranormal romantic suspense so when the opportunity came to review an ARC of "Boxed In" I said, "Why not?" I'm glad I did. This story is nothing like I expected.
Recent college grad, Olivia, has always dreamed of owning her own antique shop, but before she can do that she needs to pay of a heap of student debt. Which means she's stuck working for a slimy and morally-challenged boss. The kind of boss who openly ogles his employees assets and buys stolen merchandise which he then expects Olivia to catalogue for resale. Enter Luke, computer tech and undercover security expert. His job is to retrieve one of the stolen objects. He didn't plan on falling for Olivia. And he definitely didn't plan on being possessed by the guardian of an ancient sacred object, Zabastian.
Color me hooked. The pace was just right. There was an ongoing tension that fans of thrillers like "Hunt for Red October" or "The DaVinci Code" will appreciate, but it was mixed with a sexy flavor reminiscent of Laurel K. Hamilton. I really loved Olivia and Luke, especially when both of them teamed up against Zabastian-in-Luke's-Body. That was something very unique. Zabastian was a typical historical alpha male, complete with chauvinistic tendencies. However, neither Luke nor Olivia let him get away with it. His attempts to do it his way, often caused the situation to worsen and he'd need teamwork to get out of it. It was a refreshing take.
Another bonus, you don't need to read the previous books to enjoy this one. That's often a failing of series romance. But this one is full and complete and leaves the reader satisfied.
In all I'm happy to give this Five Stars.
*** I received an ARC of this book through NetGalley
An interesting storyline with romance/lust/mystery combination which kept me entranced right to the end. Olivia loves her work with antiques, especially when Luke visits her workplace to correct any IT 'problems'. A failed robbery of an ancient artefact, which Luke touches and it channels the spirit of an ancient warrior into him.
The spirit, Zabastian and Luke then share Luke's body and also their desire for Olivia which causes some friction.
Zabastian persuades Luke to help to return the ancient artefact to its rightful owners and out of the hands of the robbers.
another superb story in by Ms. York. She never fails to delight. Good romantic suspense
