Description
They were the three B's: the Baker, the Brains, and the Beauty.
Gio and her friends Declan and Zoe have been an inseperable trio since forever. Only thing is that Gio (the Baker) has been a little bit in love with Declan (the Brains) for years, and she once made the mistake of kissing him. (Hint: it didn't go well.)
Now 23, Gio remains convinced that she and Declan are meant to be, even as his attitude over the years has become less: "I’d do anything for you" and more: "I’d prefer if you did everything for me." When Declan invites Gio to be his date at a work party, she accepts, only to overhear him describing her as a "last resort."
In steps the Nod Next Door.
The guy who lives across the hall, a man who so far has only managed to nod in greeting to them when Gio and Zoë see him, works at the same company as Declan. He offers to walk a gutted, and slightly tipsy, Gio home despite the obviously negative vibe between him and Declan.
Gio decides she needs to take a 30 day break from Declan to give herself time to accept that they’re never going to be anything more than friends. Meanwhile, through a series of events including a knock to the head, an exploration of the inner workings of Pratt & Whitney J58 axial-flow turbo-jet engines and the unveiling of a sculpture that’s a little too on the personal side, Gio becomes sort of friends and then sort of more with the Nod Next Door (AKA Theo).
As Theo’s and Declan’s pasts both start to catch up with them, Gio begins to realise she might get over the man she thought she loved, just in time to lose the one she actually does.
