Description

The Victorian era is often regarded as a very austere period, but Amorous Congress: A Collection of New Victorian Erotica demonstrates that this was not always the case at all. Award-winning editor F. Leonora Solomon has curated stories by outstanding contemporary erotica writers who reimagine the sensual sensibilities of the 19th century in decadent stories.

Amorous Congress takes the reader to another time filled with poor houses and brothels, secret societies and manor houses—even some of Charles Dickens characters make an appearance. Languid, corseted and gloved, Amorous Congress is a titillating read that guarantees happy endings of all varieties.

Starting with an entrepreneurial young woman whose sensuality leads her into an unexpected career, and ending with advances in technology that give the 21st century something to aspire to, Amorous Congress is our erotic reimagining of an era that continues to entice us.

A brilliant selection of stories that has stories that will appeal to all who to any extent like this genre. There will be numerous articles you will like and one or two you will love. From the fantastic, whimsical and romantically comic to the serious, deadly and historically accurate tales that will rend your heart as well stimulate your erotic imagination. Some of the stories will stay with me for a long time. I am used to dealing the Victorian period as an archivist and the one about the factory hand and another about the suicide are brutally accurate and brilliant in their exposition. This has varied stories that are for all tastes and some tastes you probably didn't know you had until read about it here. Well done. If you have never read erotic works created with a Victorian theme, I would suggest this is where to start.

I received a copy from the publishers in via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Hot and steamy are just two words to describe this collection of Victorian era short stories.

I loved it. Yes, some stories are better than others but overall it’s fantastic. There is something for everyone. It features M/F, M/M, F/F and everything from paranormal to twists on classic Victorian characters.

Each story is well written and I would definitely like to read some as full-length novels.

Not a bad book. I do wish some of the stories were longer.

I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review. This is a large collection of short and very short stories of an erotic nature. They are not the most appealing I have read but are somewhat interesting. They cover all types of romance and erotic writings from the soft to the hard core.

There's a little bit here for everyone to get a little hot under the collar.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This is a deliciously scandalous collection of short stories. Enticing reads that are mostly set in the Victorian era. An arousing collection certainly able to satisfy many appetites.

These are a series of short stories set in Victorian times and they are hot! Some could be a little longer but I get that it leaves it to your imagination and I liked that. I can't believe some of the things written they are truly outrageous. I would read some of the stories at night, which clears your head of the current climate in the USA today and for that alone I recommend it highly.

This book was different from what I expected; I'd hoped it would offer more historical information on sexuality during that era but, nevertheless, I enjoyed it.

This was a fun collection of short victorian era erotica but written modernly and a bit easier to understand. I found the collection fun to read but there is no real character building or such and it is more just sexy stories with mostly sexy bits.

I was given a copy of this from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review.

Amorous Congress is an anthology of 18th century erotica. If you have not previously read erotic novels set in this timeframe it will be a most interesting, delightful change of pace for you.

Most people think that this time period was a very prim, proper, mannerly time. Decorum was important above all and for a woman to show even her ankle was considered highly improper! But, people are people and sexual intimacy was alive and well practiced even then.

So settle back and read stories that reveal everything from a young virgin's first coupling with her husband, to debauchery involving two women with their men of choice, to erotic spanking to raise a "pinkness". Then decide just how much or how little times have changed.

The book is a compilation of short stories, think a couple of pages or about a chapter in other books. It looks like it's from many different authors so there isn't one particular style going on here. It's hard to judge here since some stories are better than others. They are definitely not romantic stories, just a little bit of steam. There's definitely a variety of set ups but it's kind of hard to tell what you're getting until you read through each story. It was difficult to really get into stories and feel invested in many of the characters.
