Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this review copy given in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoy colouring, and have lots of marker and brush pens which I never really know what to do with as they are a bit too big to do fine colouring in. This book gives good examples as to what you could use these types of pens for. There are different sections for different things, for example playing with colours, layering, silhouttes etc, and in between there are blank pages for you to practice on.

It's not a colouring book, so if that's what you are looking for then it's not the book for you, but it is a good instructional book if you want to take your colouring to the next level!

Starting with a tools and materials list alongside a colour wheel explaining colour types and drawing tips all fully explained, the book sets you up with all the tips and tricks you need to understand creative marker art and colours that work and pattern types to try out too.

With ideas to try out with space on the page for you to work within the book if you wanted to, the book guides you through many ideas from nature inspired design to creative lettering and hand drawn gifts.

The book is beautiful, colourful and laid out in a way that's still easy to read and not distracting from the colourful drawings! Each page is more and more inspiring and is sure to get you out of a creative rut or just get you involved in marker craft.

Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!

This is such a brilliant book for budding artists, ensuring that creatives of any skill level can get started on some fun projects with great results. The book starts off with plenty of basics to give you a bit of beginner knowledge, such as colour wheels and colour temperatures, and how to choose your colour palette; the best tools such as pens and papers to use; and different ways of filling in your space with colour. After each chapter this is space to practise suggested exercises with the tips you have learned, and scattered throughout the book are fun projects with great photographic examples to inspire you. This is an all-round brilliant book for creative types of all ages.

"Creative Marker Art & Beyond" provides instruction on how to use markers to create basic, stylized marker art. It appears to be for an audience like beginning DIY crafters or people who enjoy adult coloring books who are ready to try making something on their own. The book started with some basic information about markers and ways to use them. You don't need much in the way of equipment to get started, nor does it appear to cost much to try out. She gave information on techniques throughout the book and provided practice pages in the book.

The author dove right into the step-by-step projects, starting very simple and getting a little more elaborate by the last projects. Each project applied the techniques learned previously in the book so you can see how you use them. The photographs showed each step, and each step moved forward slowly enough that you don't get lost or wonder "how did she get there?" or "how did she do that?" She covered a variety of surfaces (glass, wood, paper, fabric, stone) and types of markers (permanent markers, paint markers, brush markers, etc.). Projects included personalized notebook covers, custom wrapping paper, rock art, a decorated glass frame, and more.

The projects aren't super-fancy, but they are creative fun. Overall, I'd recommend this book to beginners interested in marker art.

My original blog post at: https://nonstopreaderbooks.blogspot.no/2017/10/creative-marker-art-and-beyond.html

I love art how-to books. Especially ones which are accessible and do-able by anyone. This is a specialized book aimed at markers of all types. The techniques are explained well with great photographs and illustrations and include all of the tutorials and projects the aspiring artist needs to develop and have a good experience creating with markers of all sorts. The projects are achievable by beginners as well as more advanced artists.

The layout and text are playful and colorful and very informal. It's a short book, 144 pages, but it packs quite a lot of content in, with useful takeaways such as: how to use the book, tools and materials, color techniques, drawing techniques, playing with color, etc. The introductory chapters are followed by 10 project tutorials arranged in roughly ascending order of difficulty which each have new techniques to explore and develop.

All of the chapters are very well photographed and the layout is very professional, very fun and very energetic.

I have started making personalized journal covers inspired by the project tutorial (#5) in this book, for stocking stuffers and thank you gifts. You can get inexpensive journals from IKEA for less than $1 each, and if you irretrievably destroy one, it's not any sort of tragedy, just recycle it. (I'm NOT an artist and I haven't had to throw one away yet).

Well worth a look for any coloring fans out there.

The book starts out with basics like what materials to use, playing with color and different drawing techniques. Fun, educational art book filled with doable projects. My granddaughter loves art. I had her look over this book too and she loved it! The book explains how to use markers to make beautiful works of art. My grand daughter spent many hours with markers, paper and rocks (yes, you read that right) to make many wonderful projects.

wonderful book to make creative art using marker pen.......

I love this book!! Though it will be considered basic for those with artistic talent, for the rest of us this book tells us what we need to know about color, shading, layering, how to create different shapes, designs, scribbles etc. The author takes us step-by-step through the basics and also through several very nice projects. There is plenty of encouragement, plenty of opportunity to practice, plenty of confidence builders and the results are really very nice. Many of the projects would make great gifts. I'm really excited to try out what I learned!

Many thanks to NetGalley, the author Lee Foster-Wilson & Quarto Publishing Group for allowing me to read an e-copy of this book. I enjoyed it so much, if I don't win it in the Goodreads Giveaways, I'm going to be forced to buy a hardcopy for myself to have on hand.

- A book meant to spark your creativity and introduce you to the world of marker art.
- Perfect for the non-artist who wants to start a new hobby and unwind after a long day.
- Unconventional uses of markers for crafters who want to experiment and find inspiration from the projects.
! If you are looking for a book with complex techniques or projects, this is not at all like that.

The interior design of the book is very pretty (for me it is important because, if I want to get inspired and the book looks unappealing, then it already killed half of my joy). It has a lot of images, uplifting colors on every page, tip boxes and "practice here" areas. Even the table of contents is visually appealing and functional!. This is a happy book, the kind of book you want to open if you are stressed out or unmotivated. It has simple instructions so you can put your mind at rest and enjoy pleasing the creative side of the brain. A plus side is that it is an inexpensive hobby that uses cheap and fairly common supplies and if you have kids, chances are you already have everything needed.

Basics of what materials to use, color combinations to choose, techniques, textures and patterns to learn, are paired with many original projects, 10 of them with step-by-step instructions. While they are all fairly simple projects, using markers in novelty ways can help spark new ideas on artists and crafters wanting to experiment. My favorite projects from the book are:

- Making gift wrap paper
- Painting on rocks
- Decorated glass frame
- A little bit of lettering
- Embellished letters
- Mirroring marker art
- Watercolor effects
- Window art

Once upon a time you could only get markers in black, and they were thick or tin. Now we have such a beautiful array of colours, and they are able to make all sort of marks as you write or draw.
Follow the various tutorials and practice excises and soon you will be creating fabulous pieces.
This book shows you some wonderful technics and by incorporation other ordinary household items turn them into lovely decorative and useful items.

A lovely book bursting with colour, inspiration and creative ideas. It is amazing what you can do with a pack of felt tip pens. All the projects are fully illustrated and the instructions clear enough for someone who has never had a go at drawing before. A lovely book to own and browse through for inspiration. Thank You

Brilliant book full of great tips for a person inexperienced in drawing, like me. It contains great tips for making simple embellishments on everyday items which makes them excellent gifts or decorations. I’m sure it can also be inspirational for more experienced artists/crafters.

Creative Marker Art and Beyond is a good resource for anyone who wants to move beyond the current coloring craze to creating with markers. It is a beginner level and would be suitable for "children" 8 - 88, anyone who loves markers and wants a few new ideas. It would be an inexpensive gift to include with a set of markers.

Lee Foster-Wilson begins with marker types, drawing surfaces and color basics, The reader is encouraged to experiment throughout. I learned the new word 'scrumbling' - drawing little marks to build up texture.

The layout is appealing and brightly colorful. The many photos clearly show the concept or project without extra clutter. Space is provided for practicing the creativity prompts. Simple exercises encourage experimentation. Projects start basic enough for per-kindergartners (gift wrap, rock art), brushing through lettering to journal covers and patterned wall art and mandalas.

My only small gripe is that the author suggests using almost dried out markers for shading. I think there are much better media for this (colored pencils!), but that is beyond the scope of this book. Who wants to have all those (almost) dried up markers around?

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for granting access to an ARC of this book for an honest review.

My Thoughts: This book is perfect for the aspiring marker artist of any age. Lee Foster-Wilson starts off with the basics – a how to use the book, materials needed, the color-wheel explained, tips and techniques for drawing and painting with markers (for eg: cross-hatching/shading/layering/negative space use), and more. She then proceeds to give different project ideas with step-by-step instructions and accompanying pictures that show ‘what next’ that the reader can try out with different types of markers. My favorites included ideas for hand-made gift wraps, creating landscapes by layering (loved this technique, and had not realized how versatile markers really are), transforming everyday objects into a work of art in culinary and rock art, and…well, I think I will go ahead and add every idea in the end, so I will stop with the top favorites right here.

And yes, totally loved the whimsical cover and the illustrations that are scattered all around the projects, providing additional inspiration for all!

You can create a gift kit for those aspiring artists you know; and I have a suggested kit (some of the items are ones you will find outside your home, or right in your home) below.

Rating: A (for aspiring artists)
Reading Level: all ages
Reread Level: 4.5/5

Found this very interesting as I'm starting to journal and want to get more into bullet journaling. I plan to share this with my teenagers who are extremely into the arts and I think will enjoy it. Thank you for the opportunity to look at the book.
