What does it feel like to “see” with your ears like a bat or go through a full body transformation like a frog? Can you wriggle in and out of tight places like an octopus, camouflage yourself like a leopard, or do a waggle dance like a honeybee? This creative and beautifully illustrated interactive guide makes learning about animals fun for children ages 6 and up. Fifteen animals explain their amazing feats and invite kids to enter their world by mimicking their behavior — an imaginative approach to learning that fosters curiosity, empathy, and dramatic play.

This is a highly informative book featuring a whole array of different animals and their individual traits and skills. It prompts the young person to think about why that animal has that trait, such as 'why do wolves howl?' followed by lots of facts, and some ideas for creative play to 'think' like that animal. This is an all-round great fun book which encourages creativity and play, whilst imparting lots of interesting facts and knowledge.
Howl, dance, sing, hop! This book definitely will motivate a child to move around and explore. The descriptions and information on all the different animals is amazing. I think the animals chosen and the details are ideal for young readers. The illustrations reminded me of Gustaf Tenggren’s illustrations for Little Golden Books. They were brightly colored and helped explain the facts. I think this book would be great to read out loud, especially in a group setting.
As a family fitness blogger, I was really excited to review this book. I'm always looking for fun and creative ways to incorporate movement into our daily routine. This book is engaging and provides a lot of facts about each animal.
The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous! I would purchase based on the cover art alone. This book is a must for any family with small children.
Excellent format for the age range. Nice variety of animals and information provided.
Howl Like a Wolf is aimed at young readers and is packed with information and play-alongs for more than 15 different animals. Each chapter introduces an animal, explains some of their behaviors and characteristics and then invites the reader along on activities to learn about why the animals do what they do.
I loved the art, it's colorful and vibrant. The text is intelligent and not condescending. The chapters include the proper Latin names for the animals they're describing. Increasing awareness and empathy for the wild animals around us, many of whom are critically threatened is so vital to our future and the future of life on our planet. The interactive activities included in the book are a fun way to get youngsters moving and understanding a little more about the animals who share our planet.
Very well written, beautifully illustrated. Super bonus points for including tardigrades as one of the animals in the book. I'm in love!
Four stars!
