Description

New stories from Mr. Magical Realism himself . . . Franz Kafka, meet Ray Bradbury . . .

The stories in this collection, all unpublished until now, are a testament of the impact of great writing. From the strange and surreal/magic realist writings of Kafka to the brilliant joy of Bradbury's imagination unleashed, writer Bruce Taylor learned well from these masters of expression. And with time, began to blend these seeming dissonant voices into his own work, at once strange and different, yet beautiful and haunting. His only hope is that with these stories, he has paid due respect and homage to the two writers who have influenced him the most: Franz Kafka and--Ray Bradbury.

As rich and poetic s Bradbury at his finest."
--William F. Nolan, author of Logan's Run

A Note From the Publisher

Bruce Taylor, aka., “Mr. Magic Realism” writes magic realism (think “The Twilight Zone") His writing has also ben described as a cross between Kafka and Bradbury. He co-edited, with Elton Elliott, former editor of "The Science Fiction Review," the ground-breaking anthology, "Like Water for Quarks," which examines the intersection of the magic realism writing form with science fiction, with such contributors (in the original anthology, Ray Bradbury) as Ursula K. LeGuin, Brian Herbert, Kevin J Anderson, Connie Willis, Greg Bear William F. Nolan, Robert J. Sawyer and many others (now available from baenebooks.com). His book, "Kafka’s Uncle and Other Strange Tales," with introduction by Brian Herbert, was nominated for the &NOW Award for Innovative Writing (SUNY, NY). Another book, "Edward: Dancing on the Edge of Infinity" with introduction by Jay Lake, based on the work by Karl Capek (who gave us the word, “Robot”) has received favorable reviews. In the last year, through ReAnimus Press, Bruce has had three new titles released ("Kafka’s Uncle: the Ghastly Prequel and other Tales of Love and Pathos from the World’s Most Powerful, Third-World Banana Republic," "Kafka’s Uncle: the Unfortunate Sequel and other Insults to the Morally Perfect," "Alleymanderous and other Magical Realities") in addition to four reprints, including the 20th Anniversary Edition of "The Final Trick of Funnyman" (Fairwood Press).
Bruce has also been nominated for the Nebula Award and the Bram Stoker Award. He lives in Seattle, with his partner, award-winning writer and graphic novelst, Roberta Gregory and their hyper-bright Tuxedo cat, Roo-Prrt in a vast condo with a smashing view of Mt. Rainier.
