This is a lovely addition to the Dear Dragon series. The books are excellent ways to introduce new words to children, it has nice images and the stories will make sense to little ones. This book focusses on the feeling - Happy. At the back of the book are activities and learning points for children to encourage them and reinforce their reading skills.
The Dear Dragon series is made up of several books that are easy readers. They use site vocabulary that is printed in the back of the book. This book is written with 85 words that are printed in the back. It reminds me of the books I learned to read with.
In this book, the boy and his dragon have a wonderful day with many things making them feel happy. It starts with them getting a kitten from a farm, making new friends at the park, learning a new game (baseball) and finally getting together with his family for a wonderful dinner. All things that make the boy and his dragon happy. All this is told in simple, repetitive, easy vocabulary. These Beginning-to-Read books capture the imaginations of beginning readers and help them on their way to independent reading. They could also be read aloud to young children who are not able to read yet. The back of the book has several suggested activities that can be used for reading reinforcement. A great addition to a family library or a primary classroom.
