Pavel Morrow, a man with a troubled past, arrives in Malaysia to deceive Li, a young woman committed to humanitarian causes. He is profoundly influenced by her and together they investigate an atrocity that occurred during the Malayan Emergency, and engage with the plight of the Rohingya refugees who flee persecution in Rakhine State.

Now Pavel has a dilemma because his task was to track down Li's father, an alleged spy from Singapore. Can he change sufficiently to stay on her side? The drama is played out as they criss-cross the region in this intriguing and gripping tale.
