I really enjoyed this book. A great plot I loved the main characters. I would recommend this book.
We start with a heist, committed by as yet persons unknown. Then we have a lone shooter at a school who is stopped by Grace, an action that springs her onto the front page. But her notoriety turns things on their head for her as it triggers a sequence of events that has her crossing the world, injecting her into a new life, one that she doesn't really like the feel of. On arrival in England however, things don't go according to promise. Surrounded by some really rather strangely acting people, with nefarious motives, can Grace escape and return to the life she knew? A life that has also been somewhat turned upside down.
Well, this was action packed all the way, some of which was rather violent and graphic but all within context as Grace has got herself embroiled with some really rather nasty characters indeed.
Flitting between timelines and also character perspective as it did, there was a chance that it would all get confuzzled for me but the excellent way it was written made it all very easy for me to follow; and I do often struggle with these things.
As with most books of this genre we have an eclectic mix of characters, the majority of whom with secrets and lies and exhibiting quite a dose of duplicitous behaviour throughout. All within context of their characters I hasten to add. I found them to all be well described and easy to meet and remember.
Plotting was tight, and it had to be because the plot was rather convoluted and a bit interconnected. We also had a little bit of everything crime-wise, but not too much as to be completely overpowering. Maybe just a little busy at times.
I also had a couple of niggles story-line wise which I was quite happy to sit on being as the rest of the book was good enough to carry them. Some of it was also a little bit of a stretch but again, it's fiction, and the writing and characters kept me reading on, albeit with belief a wee bit suspended.
All in all a good solid read that wasn't taxing and kept my attention mostly throughout although I wasn't quite as satisfied as I would have liked to be at the end.
My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.
In The Blood by Lesley Welsh opens with a scene which leaves the reader daggling on the edge, a tantalising taste of what may be round the next page or over in the next chapter. I couldn't hold back, turning the pages and devouring the scenes, I lost a day but gained another insight from Lesley which I shall savour for months to come.
In The Blood is a compelling, strong and vividly written book, the dialogue and narrative is simply astounding.
I'm in awe of how Lesley managed to fulfil such distinctive characters and still engage several different backgrounds. Each character eventually converges from the past, intersecting with the present bringing to light 'In The Blood'.
Lesley wrote about Grace Dobbs a young woman who lives an almost sedate life in the Australian countryside, when her life is propelled into the limelight due to a lone gunman. Hailed as a heroine her fame travels across continents attracting the attention of an unknown individual. What's the reason, what do they want and is there something in Graces past she is unaware of, will travelling to Britain give her the answers or pull her into danger. I actually liked Grace she is quite a strong willed and determined character but with a streak of gullibility in a childish kind of way. There were many other personas that stood out each one unique, but not all appealing.
In the Blood is full of darkness and has an impressionable plot which will tempt and tease every part of your criminal mind, leaving you begging for more.
Thank you to Bloodhound Books, Sarah Hardy and to Lesley Welsh's family for the opportunity and genuine honour to read an advanced readers copy of In the Blood by the late Lesley Welsh.
I really enjoyed this book. It is a fast paced crime thriller that had me hooked from the beginning. Loved the writing style and how you was drawn into the story. There are a lot is strong characters in this story bit I think Grace and her mum were my favourite
Thank you bloodhound books and netgalley for giving me chance to read this book
Wow what a start to a book. This really gets you hooked from the start !!
This is a real page turner that keeps you hooked throughout. The main character, Grace Dobbs, is a real heroine who is thrown into the limelight after she becomes a local hero. I really liked Grace and was pleased to see her character develop over the book.
All in all this is a very fast paced crime thriller that grabs your attention right from the start.
I've always said, all and any secrets will come out one day, eventually. But what now if your whole being, your life is a secret, that you weren't party to? This was a gripping thrilling read, and I couldn't page over quickly enough to see what happens to Grace and her new family. Well worth the time and effort. Recommended!
