Description
Steve McQueen remains the embodiment of cool some three decades after his death. Whether on the silver screen, racing a Triumph motorcycle across a California desert, dueling with other racers at Le Mans, or simply hanging with his pals, McQueen exuded an effortless style that belied his rough and tumble past. It’s a trick that ensures he continues to appear in advertising and pop culture all the while embraced by cinema, racing, and motorcycle fans as one of their own. He remains the ultimate guy’s guy.
The Life Steve McQueen explores and celebrates the memorable aspects of McQueen’s life that, taken as a whole, defined the man and cemented his reputation as a Hollywood rebel and risk taker. Peppered with period photos, illustrations, posters, and more, The Life Steve McQueen surveys the movie roles, racing, personal style, art, and pop culture that all combined to crown the King of Cool and ensure his legacy.

I enjoyed this biography. It was a nice mix of info about his movies, his racing, and his personal life. The addition of many photos I've not seen before made this an easy and enjoyable read. And it made me sad that he died too young.
Is is possible to have too much Steve McQueen? I don't think so. This is actually a picture book with very little expository writing. I think I was hoping for more insight than is present, hence not a 5 star rating, although the subject rates more stars than are available. Having been an avid fan during his career and a mourner at his all too early loss, for me there is little enlightenment of the man behind the cool facade. Still, I did enjoy sections on his love of racing, his introduction to acting, and his almost superhuman magnetism.
I didn't know much about Steve Mcqueen but I really enjoyed this book. It was good mix of the different parts of his life and lots of pictures.. it's not really a biography just a photographic story broken up with a few pages of his life but I liked it and found it a really well laid out and written book
I enjoyed reading this general biography of Steve McQueen. There is not a lot of new information but the book is easy to read and well organized. I did like that the book included all aspects of Steve McQueen's life, his acting, his racing, his style and his personal life. There are lots of wonderful photographs and the photographs are what make the book special. Enjoy
