Description
San Francisco artist Anne McFarland has been distracted by a cross-country romance with sexy Sergio and has veered from her creative path. While visiting him in New York, she buys a pair of rhinestone shoes in an antique shop that spark her imagination and lead her on a quest to learn more about the shoes’ original owner.
Almost ninety years earlier, Clair Deveraux, a sheltered 1929 New York debutante, tries to reside within the bounds of polite society and please her father. But when she meets Winnie, a carefree Macy’s shop girl, Clair is lured into the steamy side of Manhattan—a place filled with speakeasies, flappers, and the beat of “that devil music”—and her true desires explode wide open. Secrets and lies heap up until her father loses everything in the stock market crash and Clair becomes entangled in the burlesque world in an effort to save her family and herself.
Ultimately, both Anne and Clair—two very different women living in very different eras—attain true fulfillment . . . with some help from their silver shoes.

I totally fell in love with Clair and her story! A great tale the takes you back to the roaring twenties when women were beginning to truly change their own lives and gain the beginnings of their own power.
The book is enchanting, two stories about two women in different eras who each overcome obstacles to become the artists they were born to be. If you love, romance, humor, strong women and shoes, this is the book for you!
This was a beautiful coming of age story. From page one all the way to the end, this beautiful tale shows you what it is to find yourself. This story is set in two different time periods, as you get to see who these women are and what shaped/shapes them. This beautifully written novel makes its way into your heart as you laugh, and cry over both these women. The cover is gorgeous and automatically pulls you in with wonder as you want to know more about these shoes and the pearls found within the box alongside them. The history in this novel is rich and you cant ell that a lot of love and dedication went into the research for this novel. 5 stars from me.
Two women in two different eras sets the stage for this story, told in alternating sequences. Claire Deveraux in New York in 1929 and Anne McFarland in modern day San Francisco. Both tied together by a pair of silver shoes. Anne purchases the shoes in a "bargain store" with a promise to keep the shoes in the original box. Inside the box she finds a pearl necklace and an old photo of a couple of flappers. Thus begins Anne's curiosity to find the story behind her purchases.
This was a wonderful book, in particular because I enjoy reading about the 1920's and the "flapper" era. I know I will enjoy Ms. Hall's other book "The Black Velvet Coat" as I already have that marked as a "favorite" to read at another time. My thanks to NetGalley for providing this novel in exchange for an honest review.
I loved, loved, loved this beautiful book. From the moment that I started reading I couldn't put it down and neither will you so pick this up today and prepare to be enchanted by this well told story. Happy reading!
The Silver Shoes by Jill G Hall was a fun read abut two women from different time periods (the twenties and modern day). Both characters co.e into possession of a beautiful pair of shoes, and the connection becomes clear by the end of the book. I loved the characters and different perspectives. Overall, a fun read.
