Description
Near the end of an almost purr-fect RV vacation to Texas, Beth, the landlady, and her Psycho Cat deal with break-ins, gun theft, and murder. Beth’s brother-in-law becomes a “person of interest.” It’s all enough to make Beth wonder if trouble is tailing them on the way home, too. “Doubtful,” Beth’s hubby, Arnie, insists. “Why would anyone want to follow the RV from Texas to Kansas City?” Why indeed? At the same time, two petty crooks, Gil and Freddy, fumble about, trying to retrieve a stash of drugs that will make them rich enough to go straight. Without getting caught! Psycho Cat whizzes around the RV, yowls, and acts up in general. Beth investigates, despite Arnie’s skepticism. She must decode Psycho Cat’s signals to figure out if they are being tailed, connect the real killers to the murder, and save her brother-in-law from going to prison. A few wrong moves and--this could be the end of the road for the sleuthing duo. BONUS: Recipes of foods mentioned in the story are included at the end of the book.
Advance Praise
Once more Joyce Ann Brown has delivered an intriguing mystery with enough twists to keep the reader guessing from the first page to the end. In TAILED, Psycho Cat once more plays the role of observant detective and once more has to work to keep his owners, Beth and Arnie, safe. Brown's descriptions of San Antonio -- where the mystery opens -- are spot on and, of course, Kansas Citians will easily be able to follow her not-so-bad guys as they move around town trying to find the goods that somehow got away. Fresh characters always are a part of Brown's works and TAILED is no different. No spoilers here, but suffice it to say that Gill and Freddy really should rethink their line of work. This is a good read.

Princess Fuzzypants here: It took me a few chapters to get into this story because I felt that the feline star of the book, Sylvester, was maligned by being called Psycho Kitty. He seemed a most amiable and handsome sort and he was instrumental in solving the mystery.
Sylvester’s parents are visiting San Antonio with his aunt and uncle. They both are travelling by RV and had parked the trucks that pulled the Rv’s in a parking lot near the Alamo. When they returned from shopping, they discovered both trucks had been broken into and items had been stolen. It rose from being an irritant to a serious crime when a body is found in a nearby dumpster, shot by the uncle’s stolen gun.
Sadly, the San Antonio police figure he was the shooter and his life is thrown into chaos including an arraignment for the murder. Luckily, two of the three thieves had hidden heroin in the Sylvester’s RV and after a couple of misadventures follow Sylvester and his family home to Kansas City. I say luckily because if these two sad sacks had not, the real villain would never have been found.
The story has a lot of twists and turns and some surprises before all the crimes are solved- the break ins and thefts and the murder. Sylvester plays a very large role in the successful conclusion of both, in fact, his is the major role.
I still think it is insulting that he is called Psycho KItty but since I enjoyed the book so much, I deign to forgive the author.
I give five purrs and two paws up.
Hat alles, was ein gutes Buch aus dem Beriech "cozy" braucht - sehr vergnügliches Buch mit einer Katze der etwas anderen Art. Liebevoll gezeichnete Charaktere und schwungvoller Erzählstil.
This was a quick read for me. It kept my attention and I enjoyed it very much. I would recommend it.
This is the 4th book in the Psycho Cat and the Landlady Mystery. Not reading the previous books did not hinder the reading experience. This cozy was a bit different then others I have read. Even the criminals were somewhat likable. GIl and Freddy cared for each other and took care of each other. Yes, they were still criminals, but their conversations were kind and yeah, I guess I felt a bit sorry for them. Beth, the Landlady, our main character is on vacation in TX with her husband, sister, and brother-in-law when they get inadvertently caught up in a crime in process. Both of their trucks are broken into while parked in a lot while they are shopping. They later realize their RV which was at the campgrounds was broken into. Gill and Freddy used the RV to tend to Gil's wound and they stashed their heroin in the RV also. GIl and Freddy have to follow Beth back to Kansas in order to get their heroin, but in the meantime, Beth's Brother-in-law is arrested and taken back to TX for a murder in which his gun, stolen from his truck, was used. So much going on in this book. It was a fun and enjoyable read. I will look for the previous 3 books and future books in this series. I am giving this book a 3.5-star review rounded to 4
A cozy animal mystery with a quirky cat and inquisitive heroine. The mystery side is a little light, but I loved reading about events from the point of views of various characters as the story progresses. I'd love to hear Psycho Cat talk, just for his commentary on everything that happens, given how he tries to communicate with Beth, and seems to know more than he should. Overall an enjoyable cozy story.
