Description
Not a political book. But a tense, suspense novel, played out during an election campaign.
Crystal Moore's good friend Ron Drake is running for governor of Texas. Polls show he has 70% of the votes. But, fake news begins pouring out, and with two weeks left before election day, his numbers are now below his opponent's.
Only Crystal believes that an art theft at Ron's house is related to the election. She begins to search for clues which might tie the theft and a dead man to a political dirty trick and the fake news. She finds the first clue, and quickly she is attacked and almost killed. But a pair of red boots changes everything. Two more attacks land her in the hospital. It looks like Ron may lose the election. And Crystal may lose her life.

Ron Drake is running for governor of Texas. He is very likely the winner from the beginning of the campaign. Two volunteers on the opposing candidate's team talk about doing a dirty trick to Drake to help their candidate. She will steal a painting from Drake's home and make it look like Drake took it for the insurance money. Things go wrong from the beginning. Crystal Moore decides she is going to look into what is behind this theft which leads to murders and keeps going wrong for those involved. An interesting look at what can happen and how it can go so wrong.
The description pretty well covers the plot. Ron Drake, a long time family friend, is running for Governor against Jim Bob Wilson and the polls have Ron ahead by 70%. George Weeks and Ginnie Leverett, two of the workers for Jim Bob, plot to employ a dirty trick. The caper goes awry and Ginnie takes her first step on a slippery slope Crystal Moore finds herself in the cross-hairs as Ginnie starts unraveling.
This is the first book I have read in the Crystal Moore series but it won't be the last. I found the characters to be entertaining and likable. Suspense, mystery, humor and mayhem.
