Description
Despite a love of athletics since early childhood, a professional athletic career was never part of Chrissie Wellington's plan. Her passion for international development work was what guided her professional ambitions. Soon after graduating university she took a job working with the UK government, but after a few years, became disillusioned and decided it was time for a change.
Chrissie's adventurous spirit led her to go on a sabbatical in Nepal. It was there that she discovered a natural love of biking. Shortly after, she stumbled upon her first competition while riding around New Zealand. It was a coast-to-coast race, which required her to kayak, run and cycle across the 151 mile course. She said "what the hell" and came in second, despite having no prior kayaking experience. Later, while cycle-touring in Argentina, she happened upon a group of locals who invited her to take part in an off-road duathalon. She won.
In 2007, Chrissie took a risk and began racing professionally at the age of 30. Within the year, she had won seven different triathlons, including the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii. Her victory was described by Inside Triathlon as the "biggest upset in Ironman Hawaii history." Since then she has gone on to become a world class athlete, rising to the top of the triathlon world at an incredible speed.
A LIFE WITHOUT LIMITS is Chrissie's firsthand account of her unlikely rise to the top. In addition to her personal story, she shares her training tips, the life lessons she has learned from around the globe, and what she believes it takes to become a champion.
Chrissie Wellington is the world's number one female Ironman athlete, the current triple World Champion and multiple World Record holder. Additionally, Chrissie has won three Ironman World Championship titles as well as titles from seven different Ironman races.
