I loved this book. I am familiar with Catherine Marshall's fictional books, having read them more than 30 years ago. So I knew this would be great. I love the fact her books are clean Christian books.
I want to thank Netgalley for my ARC of this book, and this is my true and honest opinion.
Having never read the young-adult classic, I was pleased to receive the opportunity to preview this adapted installment for younger readers. The plot was exciting and should be easy to follow for the targeted middle-aged audience. I look forward to suggesting this series.
THE BRIDGE TO CUTTER GAP by CATHERINE MARSHALL is the touching story of a young girl, Christy Huddlestone, who is led by the Lord to leave her comfortable and privileged life and go to Cutter Gap, deep in the Appalachians, to teach school to the mountain children. The day she arrives holds enough adventure for a lifetime, and her first day at school runs a close second, but in spite of this she knows she is where she is meant to be and is determined to bring as much joy as she can into the children's lives.
The story is based on the adventures of Catherine Marshall's mother. It is a really lovely and encouraging story.
I was given a free copy of the book by Gilead Publishing from NetGalley. The opinions in this review are completely my own.
Oh my goodness I had forgotten what a great author Catherine Marshall was. This book was like a step back in time, I read her books when I was young, and they are just as good now as they was then. Everybody should read this book, it is wonderful! It is filled with hope and the hardships of the people at Gutter Cap. You won't regret getting this book. Thank you Gilead Publishing and NetGalley for the free copy of this wonderful book. This is my honest opinion.
I remember reading Christy years ago as a teen and being so excited when the television series came out. I know this is the young adult edition but would encourage others to read it also. This is such an encouraging story of strength and perseverance during a time when many were not aware of life in the mountains. A lot can be learned from this series. Highly recommended!
For readers of all ages who enjoy Christy by Catherine Marshall, this expanded series comes in 12 easy to read books with lots of action and dialog. This first book describes Christy Huddleston's journey into the small Appalachian town of Cutter Gap.
Catherine Marshall was a favorite author of mine. Her books were so inspirational. Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for allowing me to read.
A book by author Catherine Marshall for middle grade and above, a story set in the Tennessee Mountains, a proud people, although poor, wanted an education for their children.
A journey, from an upscale life to the unknown, and we see through her eyes the beauty of this area, and meet these humble people first hand, and are with her as she begins her teaching career.
I love that there is a choice for a Christian read for our children, and this book is a glimpse back in history.
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Gilead, and was not required to give a positive review.
I love Catherine Marshall’s books.
This one is based on the life of a teacher of mountain children in an impoverished community in Tennessee. In this book Christy crosses the bridge from familiar city life to the intriguing world of Cutter Gap. It is filled with the adversity and faith of the people of Cutter Gap. It is a story about determination, tenacity, adventure, emotion and romance. I want to thank Netgalley for my ARC of this book. This is my true and honest opinion.
I am so excited that Gilead Publishing's branch, Evergreen Farm, has created a series for young adults from the beautiful Catherine Marshall classic, Christy. I absolutely love the original text. Upon reading book one in the Christy of Cutter Gap series, I was not disappointed. This rendition of the beginning of Christy's story stayed true to the original. I highly recommend this series for twelve years old and up. Christy's story is one of integrity and growth. She's trying to follow God's lead as she learns to live in a very different culture than her own. I received a copy of this book through Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
The Bridge to Cutter Gap is the beginning of the Christy series. I loved it. It is getting a well-deserved 5 plus stars from me.
I had my 11 and 12 year old daughters read this book just to see what they thought as it is geared toward their age group. They thought it was "fun, interesting, and a little mysterious". They really enjoyed all the different characters and the story was quick and engaging. They thoroughly enjoyed in the story and want to read the rest of the books as well.
I'm excited about these middle grade reworks of one of my favorite books. I've loved Christy since I was young, and I've been looking forward to being able to share it with my children. But I've held off because of some of the more serious themes in the adult version. I think this is a great way to get younger fans engaged and involved with the story so families can enjoy discussing it together. And also create life long fans who will read the original when they're older.
This is a delightful young adult series of Catherine Marshall’s original classic “Christy”, and this first book in the series sets a good pace for the rest of the books that follow. This book would meet with Catherine Marshall’s approval. My hope is that this series will introduce these wonderful characters to a whole new generation of readers.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
