Description
A race to save a life. A ruthless killer. Time is running out.
Two weeks ago, Naomi James didn’t exist. Missing for twenty years she appears out of nowhere, setting off a chain of events that rocks Gabe’s world and alters his life. Forever.
Gabriel Cummings is trained to expect the unexpected. Then, a rogue federal agent crosses his path, disrupts his life and challenges every lesson he’s ever learned. Beautiful. Defiant. Naomi ignores the rule of caution. Scouring darkened streets in search of men with darker hearts, she tracks an elite criminal and hired assassin—alone. Giving new meaning to the phrase a dangerous woman; inflaming his desire and igniting protective impulses, she pushes buttons he didn’t know he had. Trusting gut instinct and combat training; the ex-marine is determined to keep her safe whether she wants him to or not. But the odds are stacked against them. And odds are—they’re in over their heads.
Thrust into the nightmare world of human trafficking and desperate to save a young girl, Naomi resents Gabe’s intrusion. Fighting her attraction to the hot hunk she repeatedly tries to ditch the overbearing, over controlling pain in the butt ex-soldier. But Naomi needs his help. Help she’s certain will come at great personal cost. No stranger to taking chances or playing the cards she’s dealt, Naomi questions—is wagering her heart worth the risk? When a life hangs in the balance and hours matter, she has no choice. She’s given her word. How can she put a price on a promise?

I’m always annoyed when I realise I’ve come into a series, missing the first book. But Gabriel’s Fire was a story that stood on its own and kept my attention till the last page was turned. Inventive world building and realistic characters enhanced my enjoyment of this well rounded, drama and suspense packed read. Romance that sizzles and burns, then ignites into a fireball, is always a winner in my book. Lotchie Burton’s The Men of Thorne Enterprises series will definitely be placed on my must read list (and I’ll be seeking out book one)!
If you are looking for a well-crafted plot with a slow burn romance, then Gabriel’s Fire is the book for you! Gabriel’s Fire is the second book in Lotchie Burton’s The Men of Thorne Enterprises series. This book combines mystery, drama and romance. I have rarely, if ever, encountered a book in which I found myself so engaged with all parts, equally. I found myself asking the questions, “How have I never read this author before?” and “What other books have I missed out on?” , repeatedly.
The main characters and HEA couple are Naomi and Gabe. Both are headstrong and independent individuals. When Gabe appoints himself, Naomi’s partner after she takes one risk too many, sparks fly. While investigating a possible kidnapping/human trafficking situation with the local homeless shelters, Naomi and Gabe’s relationship begins to transform and develop into something deeper.
Joined by a supporting cast including a brilliant 15 year old runaway and Gabe’s coworkers, Naomi and Gabe’s story is a winner. The author is able to take you through so many emotions throughout this book. I cried for Aaliyah when she took her tattered photo out of her backpack. I swooned right alongside Naomi as Gabe piled on the charm. I laughed at the antics and camaraderie of the gentlemen of Thorne Enterprises.
Love Hard, Love Deep, is the first book in the series. I did not read book one before I read Gabriel’s Fire and believe that aside from some background information, I did not need to in order to fully embrace book two. That being said, I did purchase book one after I completed Gabriel’s Fire because I am hooked on Lotchie Burton books!
This is actually the second book in this series but can be totally read as a stand alone but I actually went and bought book one "Love Hard Love Deep" because I enjoyed this book so much
Naomi The twin sister of Nylah James in the heroine of this book she is a tough woman more than capable of looking after herself and she isn't to impressed that Gabriel Cummins has decided that she needs protecting. Gabriel has his own problem he is carrying mental wounds from his time as a marine. Nether can deny the attraction that is between them but they need to put it on the back burner as the try to rescue another missing girl, but their enemies are determined to destroy them and they will need all their wits to survive. While this is a romance it is really more of a suspense novel it is a long slow burn between these two damaged souls but you just know that they will eventually get there HEA.
I can't recommend this book enough and even though it isn't necessary I would recommend reading the first book as well
Thank you Netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
So where do I begin? This novel was very well written and each part blended so well. Gabriel is an ex military soldier with the self imposed mission to protect Naomi who does everything in her power to escape his powerful hold. At first I was not feeling Gabs obsessive need to watch and control Naomi's every move but as the story progressed and I understood what was at stake I didn't dislike him. He demonstrated that he cared deeply for Naomi and offers her the protection, affection and love she desperately needed as a survivor of kidnapping.
I really liked e the Annabella. she's smart, brave and sassy teenager. It broke my heart seeing her distrust of adults and the unexpected way she breaks down when she sees Drake who looks like her dead father. It was the best scene in the novel. The author does an amazing job depicting broken but strong characters. Characters you end up feeling connected to. The novel has a way of pulling the readers emotions and make us want to cut up a few traffickers.
Although human trafficking is difficult to read and fully comprehend, this story didn't dwell on the dark side of this issue, instead it focused on the strength and the wit of the survivors who finally have the opportunity to heal and find love. It's a story of hope. Can't wait to read the other stories, the guys seem so incredible.
Gabriel's Fire was the second book in the Men of Thorne Enterprises series. Naomi was such a strong character and didn't think she needed Gabriel but he was her match in her all the right ways. This story had it all - off the charts chemistry, witty banter, great secondary characters, and a suspenseful tale full of twists that kept me turning the pages until the very end. I can't wait to see whose story we get next in this series!
