Good selection of characters from the fauna. Great amount of tips. The book helped me to generate my own ideas. Every creature looks really fierce to me. Sadly for me no sweet ones in the collection. You should try this book even if you are a beginner.

While I didn’t try the drawings myself, I enjoyed the author’s approach. An accessible book for the artist in your life.

An excellent book for the young and not so young artists. I liked the layout and the photo suggestions for an imagaintive monster/creature. The blank pages for drawing your own gruesome creature is great, it keeps the flow of the book going and encourages the artist to have a go. It reads like a fun textbook with great describing and illustrations. I will whole heartedly recommend this, it would be perfect for a Christmas or birthday present.

This is your basic how-to-draw book, but it does assume a certain level of knowledge from the user. Whereas most how-to-draw books break a drawing down into three, four, or more pages, these are done on two pages and begin with pieces (such as "the head") of the creature. However, my students love these graphic and not-so-loving creatures and are drawing them anyway, or trying to, so they may as well learn how to do them properly! There are a handful of creatures...all demon and dragon-ish...which your middle schoolers will love.
