World's Best Whiskies

The World's Best Whiskies does not disappoint. The richly illustrated volume of everything whiskey covers the history of the drink and the various grains that give each brand and region its own taste. The myth that whiskey must be drunk neat is dismissed; a little water opens it up and there are recipes for cocktails. Drinks as simple as a proper "Old Fashioned" to the complex "In The Shadows" are covered. All of this is a prelude to the heart of the book -- 750 different whiskeys from around the world. Most readers will be familiar with the American and Canadian large-scale distilleries as well as a few from Scotland and Ireland. But most don't know Japan is a growing whiskey market with its own distilleries and quality products. Taiwan and India have recently made their mark on the whiskey world too. Several distilleries are given special coverage with separate articles. Whiskey's growing popularity is well documented, illustrated, and reviewed in this connoisseur's tome.  Highly recommended to the whiskey beginner and experienced aficionado.

I absolutely, positively could have dreamed that the world of whiskey making or tasting could be so interesting or involved. Upon opening this book I thought I was in for a nice collated list of whiskeys from around the world graded on taste. This book has that. However, what I wasn't expecting were the chapters with fantastic writing and beautiful photography. The creation of whiskeys from barley to the barrel is complicated and really an art form. This book illustrates that. To bring out the subtler flavors in what could be considered a simple drink takes years of cultivation and detail that blew my mind a bit. I had no idea. I now have a greater appreciation for whiskeys. Also, the author took detailed and technical information that in any other hands would be dry and difficult for the reader to digest and made it approachable. As a layman, I appreciate that. I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a micro-history or who is a whiskey lover. Absolutely worth the read.

The author presented a fascinating tutorial that was neatly tied together. If this book was made part of a college class, it would appropriately be called whiskey 101. Everything, I mean everything the reader would want to learn about whiskey pours over from the carefully scripted pages.

For starters, the Three Musketeers to the world of whiskey are: water, malted barley and yeast. In stark contrast to my perception of ingredients - it's that simple. On another note, it was interesting to learn that of the top ten whiskey bars, the United States claimed five of the spots, a dubious distinction. Highlighted throughout the pages, beautiful illustrations were displayed that went hand-in-hand with every twist and turn within the wonderful world of whiskey. From beginning to end, this book was well-organized. I would recommend it to anyone with an undying thirst for this subject. Cheers.

An absolutely incredible book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this.
I am not a Whisky fanatic or know a huge amount about it but enjoy drinking it occasionally. This book has given me a whole new perspective on the worlds whiskies.
Such a huge amount of info is crammed into this book, it covers every aspect from glasses and tasting to the different types of whiskey and the process to made them.

The map showing the countries that make and produce whiskey was really interesting and surprised me, i had no idea how many distilleries there are.
The information on each brand/ distillery was very in depth, and the photos accompanying it were fabulous, as are the photos of all the different ages of whiskey, i loved seeing all the different bottles.
But my favorite part was the tasting symbols and finally the cocktails.
I certainly have a much larger appreciation of whiskey now, and will be enjoying it alot more when i drink it.

I love whiskey and really enjoyed this book! It was so interesting to learn the specifics of different kinds of whiskey and what glass they suggest using. I would love this in a physical copy and think it would be a great gift for a whiskey enthusiast like myself. Thank you so much for the Kindle download!

This is a high class, beautiful book about the history and making of whiskey. A perfect gift book for any enthusiasts or those just starting out.

This is an amazing reference book. The book is organized by country. A few distilleries and important people involved in the business are also highlighted. I also appreciated the information on the tours available. The short reviews are clear and well written. Lots of Photographs accompany the text. Anyone who enjoys Whiskey will love this book. It will make a great gift as well.

I originally read a digital review copy of the book but have since purchased a hardback for my shelf as it’s the single best whisky guide I’ve seen. Get one for yourself or as a gift for the whisky-lover in your life.

I like a tipple, actually that's an understatement I love a well blended, drinkable whisky that hits the spot. I own a few, some for drinking and some as an investment so when I spotted this be released I knew I needed it in my collection of books. I had visited some distillaries in Scotland on my many trips in the past and liked the fact that this was an addiction on finding out their history but also discovering new treasures. A well written, interesting addiction to any whisky collection.

This is an informative read for those who like their whisky. It is easy to read and contains information about whiskies of the world. It's a good read.
