If you like spy stories and erotic romance, then you should enjoy this novella. I discovered that it’s part of a series called Code Breakers. Although this installment can be read as a standalone, I reckon it is possible to a certain extent only. I found it bit difficult to get into the story, probably because I lacked some background info and attachment to the characters.
It is a fast read (about 100 pages or so), quite entertaining in general. Yet, I wasn’t really convinced. I felt a bit let down because I expected more on the festive side of things. Between the sleek cover reminiscent of regular Chick-lit Christmas novels and the enticing summary promising a mysterious plot during a Christmas ball, I thought I would get a mystery read with a dominant seasonal touch. But I clearly misinterpreted it all. It is not really a feel-good festive read, but rather a sexy historic thriller with a discreet Christmas background. It you’re into this, then go ahead you’ll surely enjoy it. As for me, I’ll stick with regular chick-lit Christmas novels.
I received this novel from net galley and the publisher. Thank you!
This novel continues the adventures of Abbie and Jack Bonnington as they try to find the mastermind behind the French spy ring in England. It is near Christmas and the Bonningtons are holding a coming out party to show Abbie off to society and catch traitors selling secrets to the French. Jack's former mistress is suspected to know who the mastermind is. False information is spread to draw the spies to the party, but even the best of plans can go astray. Abbie and Jack have to use their skills to capture the spies and trusting each other with the different parts of the mission.
Cute, quick read, I think you have to read the other books in the series to understand the back story but it worked well enough as a stand alone.
There's a French spy about. They must be caught as the fate of England depends upon it. Spies are everywhere and who can be trusted? A Christmas party where the former mistress is invited? Well yes, if you are part of a code breaking, spy family. Is the mistress the French spy or someone no one would expect? Danger, intrigue and love. Another of the Code Breaker series by Jacki Delecki. I love these books. Smart and brave women helping to defend their country. Handsome men not afraid of strength. 5+ recommendation from me. I received this book from Net Galley and Doe Bay Publishing for a honest review. The opinions expressed are my own.
