Description

Nisha They called me Angel of Death, but I am something else. Someone else. That is, if you believe the Egyptian desert god, Seth, who haunted my dreams since I can think. Sounds crazy, huh? I, too, thought I was insane. Broken beyond repair. But— When Seth’s followers—the Black Flags—invaded our annual Halloween ball and slaughtered half the town, my nightmares became reality. Those crazy bastards think I’m the reincarnation of Nebt-Het, the Egyptian goddess of protection, that I can help Seth get his immortality back. It’s why they pushed my cousin, Izzy, through a portal to the Underworld, knowing I had no choice but to follow her. Now, I’m trapped in this godforsaken place, forced to conquer all twelve caverns, with Seth by my side. Blaze I was born into a Traveler clan. Grew up with tales of warriors and magic. I thought it was all bullshit. Fairytales. Until— Nisha Blake, the girl of my dreams, caused an earth quake. And an Egyptian God sent his crazy disciples to kill half the town. I failed to protect Nisha. Couldn’t stop her from going after her cousin, from walking right into hell. Now, she’s in Seth’s world, bound to do what he wishes. Our only chance, to get the girls back, is to find The Book of the Dead—some long lost magic tome, no one has seen or heard of in ages. Wish us luck. We’ll need it.

I enjoyed this the author clearly had done plenty of research into mythology and Egyptology so you felt at home in the world she created. The characters were well written and relatable, the story was well paced and interesting. A really good sequel

I didn't realise this was the second book in a series when I started reading it, but I don't think it seems to matter as the backstory of the first one was dripped in throughout.

There were some things that just niggled at me as I read. One of those things is that Blaze's mum says 'innit'. It just seemed really strange to me that an adult with a grown child, who is on the doorstep in a cooking apron would say a word like that. It's the sort of word you'd associate with a teenage/young chav. The second thing is that I couldn't get over the names of two of the characters - Shaggy and Scooby - no matter how much personality they were given, I was still picturing them in my head as Scooby Doo characters, especially with the smoking weed habit one of them seemed to have.

Despite all of this, I really enjoyed the parts of the story that were shown in the Trials. These parts were more realistic than the real world parts and the characters very developed.

This book was received as an ARC from Backlit PR in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

This book was really interesting to read and I am in love with stories of children living their lives and then later on discovering that they are an Egyptian god undercover and the only way to save their friend is to take a trip to the underworld and save her especially if it is the girl of your dreams. There were a lot of references to Greek Mythology and Egyptology so I know the author did their research and incorporated them very well into each event and character. Every page I had my interest invested and since this is the second book in the series I am definitely interested in reading the first book in the series as well.

We will consider adding this book to our YFiction collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

I have always been fascinated with Egypt and her mythology so this book struck my interest. It is fairly a good read and will have you on the rip of your seat waiting for the next chapter. A good story to get lost in...

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. I have to say I love anything that has Egypt and its myth and lore at the base of the book. This book starts where the last book left off. Nisha is going to go through the Trial to get across the Underworld to get her cousin back. While she is trying to do this Blaze and the rest of the gang are trying to find away to the Underwood with the help of the Book of the Dead to get Nisha and her cousin back. I like Blaze and Nisha. They are developing something more between them and that is exciting. It is worth the read and the adventure.
