😂😂 this was adorable and so funny! I will definitely keep an eye out for more. Not all were child appropriate, but I showed my daughter some of the ones that were and she was cracking up, especially about the “land octopus” one
I already liked Chris McCoy's webcomics, so I was excited to read this collection, and it didn't disappoint! The sense of humor is just hilarious and so spot-on for my tastes, and I really love the simple, cute art style. There's a lot of sarcasm and cynicism, and while it does occasionally manifest in a joke that's a bit insensitive, I don't think the average reader will be offended unless you just really hate morbid humor. Otherwise, give this one a go and I genuinely believe it'll brighten your day a bit.
Fans of "Safely Endangered Comics" will enjoy a collection of the classics from one of their favorites webecomics.. Meanwhile, those who are new to Chris McCoy's work will be very pleasantly surprised by a collection of strips that take hilariously ridiculous takes on everything from Pokemon to sentient fruit. In short - this is a book that a heck of a lot of people going to be able to enjoy.
Safely Endangered was a lot of fun! I wasn't really familiar with the webcomic, but after reading the book I'm sure I've seen some before. The comics were light and observant, and there was just the right mix to keep it fresh all through the book. Nice to see the references to many books/movies/games.
Enjoyed it a lot.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
This was the cutest. The mix of comics was great and I really enjoyed this collection. It's definelty one I would revisit in the future.
Sad to say, the book did not come through in this download. Please contact me if you would like to send a hard copy or try a digital alternative. I would still be glad to provide a review.
A collection of the Safely Endangered webcomic which skewers a lot of modern life. Often very sarcastic and very funny.
I loved this collection. I have seen some of these comics on the internet, but never knew who the artist was. I will definitely need to buy this one when it comes out.
Review to be posted on all sources mentioned in my profile when the release date is closer by.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
I was absolutely squealing in delight when I spotted this book on Netgalley, this is one of the books in 2019 that I needed in my life, and now I had a chance to read it before the release date. Eep! Of course, I will still buy it as soon as it comes out.
I have loved Safely Endangered Comics for a long time now, I got hooked to it one day while browsing WebToons, and now I look forward to each time there is a new comic. Sometimes they don't work (due to the topic) but generally I laugh my butt off while reading them. It helps that the artists makes the comics have a nice twist that at times you can see coming, but at times totally not. You expect it to go one way and then boom, something else happens.
Since I have been following this comic on WebToons for some time I am not sure if there were any new comics in this one or if they are all old ones. I can just say that I enjoyed them all. I also Whatsapped several to my fiance as he is also a fan of this comic and was just as excited as I was when I got the chance to read this one on Netgalley.
The art style is a very fun one and fits the silliness of the comics.
All in all, I can't wait for this one to be released so I can add it to my collection. Now I can only hope more WebToon artists will also make a book with their comics.
I follow the author on Instagram and always love his cartoon. The comic capture our daily life, sometimes seen as mundane and add a little twist of humor.
Overall this is very enjoyable to read
Thank you netgalley for providing the arc.
If you enjoy this web comic, you will definitely love this book! I couldn't put it down. I recognized a few of the comics but most of them were new to me. Laugh out loud funny. I wish it was longer!
Reviewing collections of stand-alone webcomics is tricky. Each page is a new story unrelated to any that have come before, or any that will follow it. So that means no plot overview. And without a concrete plot-like element to talk about, what do I talk about? Other than waffling about how difficult it is to be me, of course.
Well, fortunately for me, Safely Endangered Comics, the first collection of the webcomic of the same name, streamlines the process for me by being really, really funny. Most of the time. It has a slightly higher gem-to-dud ratio than I would like to see in a collection, but not by too much. The art is fully cartoony, and helps sell the gags that are ever so dark and serious.
Safely Endangered does an effective job of balancing the style and dynamic of its jokes, making it a very readable collection. Fans of webcomics with a dark sensibility are strongly encouraged to give this a shot.
CONTENT NOTE: Don’t let the cheerful cartoon vibe fool you. The jokes in this collection are dark, and include some graphic violence. It’s all done in the name of the joke, but this is definitely not a title for young kids.

I am already following the author's Instagram account, so I did not hesitate to request this comic here on NetGalley. McCoy made the puns and even the everyday day life scenario more funny with the cute, and simple art style. Its broad morbid sense of humor will definitely appeal to any age. If you want a quick, good laugh read, you should definitely pick this one.
Thanks, NetGalley for providing the arc!
4/5 stars!
This is a very entertaining selection of comics. I laughed out all the way through as I read it.
Simple artwork, many times with a funny twist and off beat humor. If you like to laugh this is a good book to get.

Safely Endangered Comics is a quick and fun read that left me chuckling throughout. A "best of" compilation of comic strips that originally appeared on the Safely Endangered web site, these cover a wide range of subject matter, from sibling rivalry to geek culture, Be prepared for plenty of clever wordplay and more than a few groan-inducing puns, and some of the illustrations are especially appealing to those of us whose sense of humor is just a little but twisted (I'll admit, I felt a tiny bit guilty for laughing at times...).
Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable little collection that I know I'll end up flipping through repeatedly..
This is definitely a collection for adults. Let's get that out of the way first. But, overall, these comics are pretty funny. The drawings are simple, but some of the panels are still pretty amusing. I'd never actually seen the Safely Endangered comics before, but I wouldn't mind seeing more of them.
I'm not sure what else there is to say about the collection. There are some gory, graphic panels, along with some rather astute observational ones. (Much of the book could be suitable for teens or even younger, but there are those few comics that push it right into the adult category, so be aware of that and don't get lulled into a sense of safety by the first tame one.)
Safely Endangered is full of hilarious comics. I usually keep seeing them from my friends and on some pages on Instagram. When I saw it on Netgalley, I jumped in!
I really enjoyed the book. It was easy to read while working. I just read a few pages and went back to work. I especially loved the sarcastic ones. The illustrations are full of surprises and plot twists. Definitely recommend.
I was not familiar with Chris McCoy's work, so these brilliant cartoons were a pleasant surprise. A great sense of humour, clever puns and popular culture references- I really enjoyed the book with its simple but hilaroius style.
Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.
I'm a big fan of Safely Endangered Comics, been following it on the internet by the WebToon site and it's instagram for a long while, so to see it in a book is just a very nice surprise!
With nice comics, humor, this is a nice read for those days where you just want to wind up and enjoy some comics, sitting on the sofa or bed or whenever you feel confortable and just. Relax. Which is totally what I did in my off day. It's colorful, is fun and it's a easy read!
I would like to thank Andrews McMeel Publishing and Netgalley for the chance of reading this ARC!
80% funny, 20% weird. This is the best way I can describe this book. Some of the comic strips will make you laugh out loud whereas others you'll be thinking really? Did they just go there? Still a solid 4 star read.
I have followed Safely Endangered on Facebook and Instagram for a long time now. As my first book and review on Netgalley I'm thrilled! What's not to love with safely endangered?! You have wit and snark and really cute to the eye comics. I would recommend this book as a coffee table or lunch read to some of my friends. Others may not follow the humor as well.
This is damn fine collection of short comic or you could say web comics. It is relatable, crazy, filled with dark humor and at least one comic that is related to coffee.
Overall it is great and it is type of thing for collectors and just a funny gift for your friends, but definitely not for your mother. (just kidding)
Well hello, I'm very pleasantly surprised here! Sometimes I have a little problem with these comic strips which were first published online and then in a book version. Because I see so many of them online, the book becomes unnecessary with nothing new.
But, I do not know if it's because I did not follow Safely Endangered that closely, I can say that I was only familiar with two or three drawings from this comics!
And I thoroughly enjoyed the rest! I laughed at the most horrible things and giggled at the cutest things ever! I love the land octopus! That's such a clever idea!
I loved the pacing of this comic where it did not seem like the strips were too much on one note. It had a great flow, lots of different topics.
I can already say that I will be coming back to this comics.
Hilarious! Eclectic collection of joke comics involving animals, mutants, the universe, Pokémon, robots, and The Lion King.
Note: review will be published March 16th on my blog

Therefore I'll tell 4.0 things I liked about the book and 1.0 thing I didn't like, as usual.
+1 | The idea is great, and I can see why the webcomic is so popular
+1 | The humor was definitely entertaining
+1 | The drawings perfectly fitted the context
+1 | I enjoyed the randomness of it. From references to games and shows to animals and natural phenomena, it covered a lot
-1 | Maybe it was the randomness, or the short page-sized comic strips, but I felt like it ended abruptly
The illustrations are very basic and cartoony but it works for book. Some of the the cartoon strips jokes I did not understand but overall there is a great variety of jokes. I found myself laughing out loud more one once. This is definitely not a book for younger children but teens and adults would enjoy the humor.
*I could read this book thanks to NetGalley and the publisher*
It's a super cute collection of slightly passive aggressive drawings. I've chuckled throughout the whole book. Truly adorable and perfectly fit in my humour. Would love to have it on my bookshelf.
This collection was hilarious. Some of these were so dumb they were hilarious. Some were so disturbing they were hilarious.
I mean, I didn’t think every comic was hilarious - but they had me laughing pretty good. And when I’m literally laughing out loud, I think that’s the hallmark of a pretty good comic book. The ones that were hilarious definitely carried the ones that weren’t so much.
Thanks to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for a copy in return for an honest review.
First of all, I've always loved the Safely Endangered comics, ever since the first comic on Webtoons, so I'm already a fan. I really enjoyed this collection with some familiar and some new material. Each comic is humorous, from puns to just good ole' dark humor with plenty of pop culture and relatable references. Some examples are "Lady, food is my companion." "What does a turtle need money for?" "Honey if you were a fruit, you'd be a fine-apple." "Dog Wizard" and more!
I loved it all, actually laughing out loud several times. It's the kind of book that I could flip to any page, show a friend and we'd both giggle at a clever little comic. Warning for some language, although it's cute, it's not aimed at kids, folks.
My thanks to NetGalley, the publisher, Andrews McMeel Publishing, and the author, Chris McCoy for giving me the opportunity to read a digital copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
This was an interesting collection of webcomics. They were often hilarious although there was the occasional strip that was a definite miss on the humor radar either because I didn't understand the reference or they were kind of insensitive and too morbid for my tastes.
I liked that each comic was standalone and that you could flip through the pages and still enjoy the book regardless of the order you read it in. Additionally, I liked McCoy's artistic style- it was fun and creative how he portrayed certain characters and events.
This book seemed geared more towards an older audience although as there were some obscene jokes made sprinkled in with the PG-rated material.
Overall this was a fun read and I loved the sarcasm.
*Thank you to NetGalley and publishers for providing a free ARC*
Four and a half stars.
Much more variety than the norm makes this is a comic book of distinction. Some really good jokes are here, and many other whimsical looks aslant at life. Everything (with one exception) is a one-page yuck, and quality is high. In not sticking to a stock set of characters day in and day out, in not trying to sustain running jokes beyond their life, and in generally showing a lot of promise, this is a book that's certainly worth checking out.
I got an ARC of this book.
I have seen a few of these comics floating around online, but never devoted any real effort towards finding them. I really should have. This book shows that I am really slow on the uptake of modern webcomics. I loved this book.
I read it while I was stuck in doing work things, that required a bunch of waiting around. Despite being surrounded by coworkers and others that I come in contact with regularly while working, I was laughing out loud and snorting over theses comics. I showed a few pages to someone and she started laughing. She didn't know what webcomics were, so now she says that she will look them up if they are anything like this one. So just a few comics and someone was converted. It was that good.
Most of the book was filled with comics that I hadn't seen before, which given my level of dedication is not that surprising. It was, however refreshing, after the last few collection of webcomics that I read left me sad. This one made me laugh, it made me interested in the comic, and it even mentioned a way to support the author even more. There is just so much to love about the comic.
The art is simple, in a way that allows the joke to take center stage. It is not overly simplistic so I know I couldn't draw anything better even if I tried, but it seems intentionally to focus on the humor. I am impressed.
Almost all of the times when I review a collection of comics, it's because I'm familiar with the comic, or with the artist. I didn't recognize the name, or the illustrations on the cover, but I decided to dive in and see if I'd found something to add to my embarrassingly growing tumblr feed of comics.
Yeah, you got me.
This comic series is ridiculous. You've got smart humor, dumb humor, dark humor, facepalm humor. Jokes poking fun at every species. Jokes that take you a second, and then you're staring into space and questioning your life choices.
This is a great book for those of us with a twisted sense of humor.
I enjoyed the majority of the comics in Safely Endangered Comics. I had even seen some of them before and i realized i was already somewhat of a fan. A few went a little too far, too dark, But over all i enjoyed these glib comics.
Poor Pluto
UK-based cartoonist Chris McCoy has a weird, absurdist sense of humor, and I am so into it. Whether it’s talking spiders with delusions of grandeur, average Joe narwhals, or planets posting Facebook updates, the strips in SAFELY ENDANGERED COMICS tend toward the bizarre, in the best way possible.
Most of the comics earned at least a chuckle, peppered with a legit guffaw every ten pages are so. I hadn’t heard of McCoy’s webcomic, Safely Endangered, before today, but now it’s on my must-read list.
Naturally, my favorites are any and every panel that features a dog, but there’s plenty of socially awkward, geeky, and downright creepy goodness to choose from.
If enjoy the work of Reza Farazmand, Alex Norris, Jake Thompson, or Jomny Sun, this one’s a sure thing. Fans of Sarah Andersen and Allie Brosh will probably love it too.
I was not familiar with Chris McCoy's work, so these brilliant cartoons were a pleasant surprise. A great sense of humour, clever puns and popular culture references- I really enjoyed the book with its simple but hilarious style.
Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.
As always, another webcomic that turns into a book that I loved! In this book you can find the collection of Chris McCoy's comics that will leave you laughing out loud! The jokes are clever and funny and I am happy to say I can't remeber seeing them around before so they still seemed new to me and I enjoyed them deeply. I also liked how the humour wasn't isnultive as it happens to be in similar comics at times. Adult at times, but not triggering. It was very rare not to understand a panel, I think it only happened once and it most possibly was because I am a caveman and sometimes don't know what's going on in the world 0:) I totally read it in one sitting so I definitely recommend buying it when it comes out!
I follow the comics of the author online and I enjoyed them. When I saw this being available in NetGalley, I requested it. Since this is a collection, I have seen some of the strips, but it does not take away the fact that I enjoyed the content. I enjoy the sarcasm and cynicism in this collection. The illustrations are simple but makes the delivery better. Beware, though. Some of the cartoons are morbid.
This collection of comics was, in my opinion, hysterical. I was not familiar with McCoy's work before checking out his book, but I definitely say you should check it out if you want to be amused.
I already saw a few of these comics in social media so I was excited to read. The humor is sarcastic and morbid, it’s not for people who don’t like that kind of jokes. The art is simple and with adorable characters, a contrast with the morbid humor. It was quick and fun to read.
Safely Endangered Comics is a great selection of comics. They are cute, funny and do not disappoint.
I’m a sucker for collected web comic collections, so when I saw a new one out, I had to give it a try. On the whole, if you’re a fan of the medium, I think this would definitely be worth your time. It’s a fun mix of snarky and cute!
Like most web comics, it has a deceptively simple, cutesy style. Most things are simple shapes with small added details, like squiggles for hair or fur. I loved the color choices – people are variously yellow, purple or blue. All the text was easy to read.
While there are some comics that are kid-friendly, most involve some form of dark humor. Frankly, I found a lot of them hilarious, though like most collections, there were a few duds for me. Most of the comics are 3-5 panels on a single page, with very few comics that refer back to previous comics as a gag. There’s a lot of variety in the jokes, though a good deal of them deal with pop culture. There’s lots of video game jokes, from Pokemon to Super Mario, as well as perennial nerd favorites Star Wars and Harry Potter.
My one critique is that it’s literally just a bunch of comics thrown together in no particular order I could discern. There’s no attempt to arrange them by category and no real editorial content. That cuts down on the re-readability of the book a lot for me, as it feels like there’s not much to really discern it from just reading the comics on the internet.
Overall, I enjoyed the collection, and I’ll definitely be looking up more of Mr. McCoy’s work, but I think I would try to borrow this from the library over purchasing it, unless you’re a huge fan.
I received this book for free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
It's funny and is filled with some grim wit! Will recommend it. A great one to come out to a readers block or can be a great escape between two intense read.
I’ve been seeing Chris McCoy’s work around various social media outlets, and I knew it tickled my sometimes warped, usually geeky kind of humour.
I couldn’t detect any particular order to the comics here, just a random collection of mainly single-page, 2-4 panel jokes. Most of them made me smile, one or two made no sense to me, and rather a lot seemed very relevant to my life.
The style is simple, but effective. The use of colour makes everything that little bit more fun. One word of warning: this contains pretty mature content, both thematically and swearing. And a lot of geekness :)
Another cute and clever comic from Andrews McMeel. I really love the bright colors and I think this will be popular with anyone who enjoys witty and sarcastic comics.
This book has no story line, since it is a comic, but it is adorable. The illustrations are not overly complicated, but enough to get the story across. I had a whole range of emotions going while reading this. It is a quick read like most comics, but one that I would read over and over. It is going on my list of books to buy because I enjoyed it so much.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Author: Chris McCoy
Publisher: Andrews McMeel Publishing
Publication Date: 09 Apr 2019
I enjoy these comics when I see them online. It only follows, then, that a whole book of them would be a delight. Some of them were pretty hilarious. I could see gifting this to the right friend.
4.5 rounded up.
I really enjoy dark comedy and this comic definitely held up to that. There were so many panels that I wanted to print out and hang on my wall that I actually decided I need a physical copy of this book. Not just the digital copy I received for review. Clever and simple, I would definitely recommend this to anyone that has a slight cynical view of the world and isn’t afraid to show it.
Received via Netgalley. All reviews and opinions are expressly my own
Safely Endangered Comics by Chris McCoy is a humorous collection of utterly random comics. Expect to find movies and videogames, modern technological 'conveniences', and social relationships, among other things, poked fun at in light-hearted manner. Many of these made my co-workers and myself laugh aloud, and two of them ordered the book from Amazon. My faves included the Legend of Zelda comic, the Star Wars comic, the land octopus (I spit my tea), and the stay at home super heroes. Great collection!
***Many thanks to Netgalley and Andrews McMeel for providing an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I received a copy of this arc from NetGalley for an honest review. I enjoyed this graphic novel/comic book. There was a lot of laugh out loud moments and I will be looking for it once it is released.
