Lady Flora’s Rescue by Lynn Shurr is an historical novel set in England and the new United States of America. Little Flora Everton loves adventure and is intrigued at age ten when she meets Pearce Longleigh, the soon to be Viscount Laughlin when he grows up. His English father has claimed him after the death of his Indian mother in America. Years later when the children are adults their fathers decide to buy land in the Ohio territory and open a trading post as they believe people will be moving west now that the war is over and the new country is forming. Pearce’s father is in ill health so it is agreed that Pearce, Flora and her father will travel to America. Will romance blossom? Will they be able to accomplish their plans or will the Native Americans cause problems that derail the plans?
I enjoyed this book tremendously. It is very well written with believable characters. Flora is very headstrong but also resilient and able to adapt to many situations much to the surprise of Pearce. Pearce is very torn between his Native American and English roots. This is a great read and I give it 5 of 5 stars.
I received an advance copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
